  1. Wow, that's so cool. Awesome.

  3. I don't have much experience with speakers but when I first head the AMT ribbons, they sounded a bit like Stax highs to me, very effortless in exchange for bite and palpability, compared to Dynaudio monitors for example. In a big fan of ribbon highs even though somebody told me that they measure worse than conventional tweeters. Also, compared to audiophile speakers a la KEF, B&W, etc. the Adams tends to have less air and roundedness. However, they do have better imaging, resolution and frequency honesty. Anyways, I had the Dynaudio BM5, Adam P11A, Mackie HR6 and Event SP8 on my shortlist (wanted active monitors because of the convenience and performance per buck ratio) and bought the first one that had a good price on ebay. Adams are overpriced in the US by the way. In Germany, they are in the same price class as the BM5.
  4. I had all kinds of headphones including a HE90 but ultimately ended up with a "lowly" HD650, which I use during the night, and a pair of Adam P11A (studio nearfields), which I use mostly in my untreated 15m^2 room. The huge convenience and the fact that I can feel the music outweigh the resolution and other nice things I got from listening headphones. I don't get to listen much at home anymore, but if I do, I prefer the monitors.
  5. In a spur of sports madness, I bought a Head S6 tennis and Dunlop something squash rackets. Never played both, but I thought I needed some alternatives to soccer once I enter working life.
  6. I really like the added convenience (remote control, lots of options, nice adjustable display, built-in radio) and looks factor of the Squeezebox. I currently have both but use the Airport Express for Wifi and printing only.
  7. Yeah, but it takes Larry forever to add just another minor detail and actually ship the stuff. I think my Headcode was finished 1 month before it was eventually shipped and then another 2-3 months of sending back and forth for repair because it had an internal mistake. How long have people now waited for the Diabo?
  8. That Demonoid site is pissing me off. I used the activation code from postjack but still haven't gotten the activation email yet (gmail account), not in inbox, trash or spam. Searched on google and it seems a lot of people have the same problem. What crappy website software.
  9. Played Shadow of the Colossus, great game, but it was over in under 10 hours and I'm not a good gamer in general. But the atmosphere was great.
  10. Usually close-up card magic but switching to mentalism right now because it has a bigger impact on the audience. Magic is about tricking people and people know that they are tricked so it's about catching you. Still a lot of fun though. In mentalism it's about the audience's mind (reading/controlling the mind) and some people actually believe it's possible or are unsure about it, and that's where the fun lies. As Derren Brown puts it, it's a mix of magic (mechanisms), suggestion, psychology and showmanship. Get Osterlind's Mental Miracles from BT and you'll now know why mentalism is a lot more interesting. It's a teaching DVD with performance parts. Anyways, magic/metalism gets me free beers and love with the ladies and it's fun to watch the face of astonishment.
  11. Oink is a pain in the ass because of my college proxy, so there's no way I can be connectable. I get my music from DC++ anyway, although a bit tougher to find lossless. Needed demonoid because of some magic/mentalism teaching videos that I couldn't find anywhere else. Those DVDs are always so expensive.
  12. Anybody willing to share an invite?
  13. Nice, I needed a new HD650 / HD25 cable anyway.
  14. Brilliant Corners is a great start. Get one of this live albums as well, e.g. "Live at the It Club". And for something different, try his "Plays Duke Ellington". Unusual because more melodic Monk but also one of his best. This way you'll have a studio, a live and an un-Monkian album. And if you can, catch one of his videos. He was a weird character, often had a open phone line connected to his wife because "he was playing for her" or sometimes during one of his band members' solo he would just get up (huge man) and start miming an airplane on stage with his arms spread out.
  15. If it comes up again, when are the registration periods? It always seems to be closed even though it says it opens on Fridays or something. And found this: http://www.thecircuitbox.com/demonoid/
  16. Some good series are DG Classics, RCA Living Stereo or EMI Greatest Recordings of the Century. Lots of good stuff. Although they're somewhat UK-conductor biased, you also can try the Penguin Guide to Classical CDs or Gramophone if you want printed guides. Also check www.classicstoday.com for reviews. Allmusic.com is not bad either for classical. Personally, I buy a couple CDs at a time since I can't digest so much at once anyway.
  17. Classical is where I usually try to buy the CDs since there are usually so many versions of a recording but I just want one or two specific ones. Library is a good option.
  18. I usually use DC++ to download my music (or BCDC++ which is the same more or less), especially to find the more obscure stuff. Find a good user with a fast connection and just download his entire music collection. But it's tougher to find lossless. Anyways, does somebody here have a demonoid invite? There are some teaching magic vids I want to download off their trackers.
  19. The JMLabs are pretty common and popular in Europe, getting pretty good reviews. I think they're terribly bright or need massive "tube eq-ing", which is probably what the dealer meant by "these speakers only sound good with certain amps".... The model I tried was the now replaced Electra 906. Since the new Berrylium line was coming out, the Electra line (old top of the line series) got some nice discounts bumping them down to my price range.
  20. Maybe not what you're looking for but you oughta try some studio monitors at guitarcenter. I have a pair of Adam P-11A for the same purpose (desk, close to walls, nearfield listening) and they're great. Sold the HE90 because I was listening more to the monitors than the headphones. Ok, resolution isn't quite as good as the he90 but the impact and dynamics are oustanding. Plus you get excellent imaging with pro studio monitors. Dynaudio BM5A would have been my second choice but I got a decent deal for the Adams on ebay, love the AMT ribbon tweeters. A bit drier than hifi speakers and certainly not SET sound but better overall value imo, i.e. compared to the JMLabs, B&W and Kef monitors in the same and slighty higher price range that I auditioned. I also like the convenience of having matched amps in the speaker enclosures for the drivers, and volume-control everything with the Squeezebox/Apogee Mini-Dac. Gotta give them a try.
  21. Cool, thanks.
  22. How's the synergy with the Apogee? I'm having the same setup in mind.
  23. Wow, that's good, really good.
  24. Is it good? How does it stand against the other big boys? It's the only highend headphone besides the Qualia that I haven't heard yet and I'm very curious about it. I'm thinking of getting either that or the L3000 for a closed headphone with lots of good bass. Thanks, Tao

The Equations are yellow and ugly. I wouldn't want to wear them in public.
