  1. IT'S LABOR DAY! check out alfred schnittke's 1st symphony for this kind of post-modern structure in actual music. no opera-rap, unfortunately.
  2. http://www.ubu.com/sound/komar.html i must have horrible taste, because the worst song ever is great. way better than the kenny g shit on the 'most wanted song'. Yom Kippur! Yom Kippur! Do all your shopping... AT WAL-MART! 20 minute epic with lots of tuba funk and opera rap.
  3. Yeah, this poll is biased against classical music.
  4. duh duh duggaduhduh hello hello hello hello hello. that's more like it.
  5. REST IN PEACE KURT COBAIN MY FAVORITE MUSICIAN http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAMyQdBWhUw HERE WE ARE NOW!

  7. What do hemorrhoids feel like to touch? Kind of like air bubbles? Dammit.
  8. Just watched 2001 for the 239543th time. Observation: the two tribes of ape-men fighting over the waterhole in the beginning (the first fight, not the one) is exactly what fights at my high school look and sound like.
  9. Zakir Hussain? You lucky bastard. That's one hell of an unexpected guest. Check out Saturday Night In Bombay by Remember Shakti for another great example of jazz + Indian classical music, with John McLaughlin, Zakir Hussain and many others. I made a topic about ICM a while ago -- one of my favorite forms, I highly recommend investigating it further.
  10. Shrimp curry. Having an Indian restaurant within walking distance is just perfect.
  11. Goethe and Hesse are as good as Mann, IMO.
  12. I have to write a book report on this... or this:
  13. I also have Adios Nonino, his album with Gary Burton, and am getting another one in the mail soon. The one I'm getting in the mail is called El Tango. It's basically Borges' poetry with tango. That should be sublime. I'll get the Chesky album, thanks!
  14. Astor Piazzolla - Tango: Zero Hour Rarely does music move me to tears, but "Concierto Para Quinteto" may be the most beautiful thing I've ever heard. Astor Piazzolla was the most important composer of the style of music referred to as tango nuevo, literally "new tango." His specific brand of tango nuevo could be described as tango in form, but heavily influenced by classical and jazz in its use of harmony and counterpoint. I don't know anything about the tango, but now I want to learn more. If anyone here at HC is well-versed in tango & tango nuevo, I'd appreciate any recommendations. For the rest of you, if Astor Piazzolla's music doesn't affect you, you're beyond hope.
  15. I think they're talking about oicdakldfanj now.
  16. $600 for a Pink Floyd album? That's depressing.
  17. I should have purchased this earlier. My favorite ECM release. Even better than Urban Bushmen.
  18. The pain has mostly subsided. However, I haven't gone to the bathroom since a few hours before that post. Hmmm...
  19. The rest of the movie is really boring.
