  1. ^ Hmmmmm. I'm assuming all's well at this point. Carry on, Nate. Tried to meet up with that group John and I rode with last week, but only two other guys showed up. I'm guessing that the 6:30AM rain and gusty weather had something to do with it. Still, we rode, and the rain cleared up fast, though it stayed damn gusty. We picked up some people along the way and either dropped or was dropped by them. Ended up riding with only one guy most of the time. Got in 43 miles plus breakfast and was home before 10AM. I've cleaned my bike and self and have been lounging for the last half hour. I can do this type of riding. I just get too stressed when too much of my day escapes. Oh...and did some bridge repeats at Lake Avenue. I totally suck. EDIT: Okay, I just read Nate's bat battle adventures. Glad you're okay.
  2. Thanks for the reminder guys. I guess it wasn't that long ago I wasn't sure I'd ride again. I got in just over 50 miles today, but unfortunately, I was stupid enough to retry an already rejected saddle. I'm a hurtin'
  3. ^ Nice. I'm avoiding the FL crew + Brent mountain biking adventure on Saturday, which makes me a bit sad, as I think I would love mountain biking, minus the fact I'd probably kill myself within the first few minutes. Hoping to get in 50 tomorrow, and ride with that group I met last Sunday again this Sunday for another 40. I was hoping to be in a bit better shape before Sebring, but....bah.
  4. Sebring is Labor Day weekend. I haven't decided on a saddle. I think I'm going to start with the Brooks, and just keep experimenting.
  5. I'm assuming it's still on its way to Montana as Dave seems like the type to notify me once it's arrived, especially since I haven't paid for it yet, and he was waiting for the bike, along with Joe's invoice, before telling me the final amount. I really really wanted the bike for Sebring, but I'm starting to be doubtful.
  6. ^Love. And glad Gumby is settling in. Ivan is noising it up right now. WON'T shut up, and I can't figure out what he wants other than to just gab gab gab.
  7. Bike shopping for Dinny sounds like fun! Didn't Dan start riding again a couple weeks ago? Dan, why aren't you posting updates?
  8. Hope you're having a great day! Happy birthday to you!
  9. If I thought that would work for me, I'd do it. Jeff, the Calfee is real sexy. I rode my Calfee today, and I gotta admit that between the lighter weight and the Enve wheels, it's just a speedier ride, though the Gunnar feels so right. John and I rode with a really nice group of people (weirdly, a lot of engineers) from meetup that he'd ridden with before. Did about 45 miles with a nice breakfast after at a deli where the owner had set up a picnic table out back for us because A) They're there pretty much every week and He didn't want a bunch of sweaty cyclists inside. They tend to ride between 18-21mph, which is perfect for me. I learned that they tend to do longer rides (80 miles-ish) on Saturdays, then short on Sundays. I'm definitely going to be riding with them again. I do want to officially call out Raffy for wimping out and sleeping in rather than riding with us.
  10. I learned that taking two weekends off feels more like taking a month off when you start back up. I was kinda sucky today on a ride with John and Raffy. My Gunnar also feels super heavy compared to the Calfee, but that might have been to my just feeling old and slow today in the wind. I'm really hoping that the Kirk is the best mix of the two: the Gunnar is a perfect fit and the Calfee is the perfect weight/ride. Keeping fingers crossed that I'll know within two weeks.
  11. Four little words can mean so much. Hope you and Bonnie are having a big celebration!
  12. She was such a wonderful, loving dog. My heart goes out to you and your family.
  13. Love the bike, Ari. For some reason, though, the little fenders amuse me.
  14. It didn't really hit me yesterday, but I'm officially really excited right now!
  15. Nice pics. Looks like a fun day.
  16. I've tried two Specialized saddles, and had rubbing with both right where the leg meets my bum. I think I'll start with my Brooks just so I can get some miles on. I have plenty of time to try out saddles. I have Parris's Rolls to check out still, and I have five saddles I still own that were all close to being good, and still might work on the new bike. The other one I liked a lot was also leather, a Gilles Berthoud Marie Blanque. I put the Brooks back on because I got it right when I was starting to do 80 miles + at a time, training for the Miami to Key West ride. The saddle was comfy, but also hard as a rock, and it needed breaking in, which I didn't have time to do then, as my sit bones were super sore after 60 or so miles, and really really sore the next day, though I had no soft tissue issues, which seems to be the problem with most of the these other saddles I'm trying. Maybe it's time to try it out again.
  17. Great pic, Gene! I rode my three-speed Raleigh around the neighborhood this weekend for about 20 minutes because I didn't feel like getting out the gear and on my road bike. It was fun to just ride around. Soooooooooooo...........Joe Bell just called. He said he had "all the colors on", and the bike is "bitchin'!!!!" He plans to ship it out to Dave on Friday after a clear coat, and then told me to take it out into the sun before I do anything else. Should be all pearly pretty. I'm guessing I have a two week wait max at this point. Yay!!! Road my Gunnar today, which is the first time in long time. After all the saddle auditions lately, I'd forgotten how completely comfortable the B17 is. I really don't know what to do. I don't want a heavy, clunky-looking leather saddle on the Kirk, but the comfort level is so drastically different between it and every other saddle I own or have tried, I might have to do it anyway. Any other ideas, guys?
  18. Whoa! Sorry I'm late to the party. Hope you had a wonderful birthday!
  19. Congrats to Rudewolf! Damb, Steve. You did some excellent holding out! You would have been the only person I know over 14 without a cell phone.
  20. Happy belated, Antonio. Glad it was a special day for you!
