The Headcase Stax thread
Crap, crap, crap!!!! Most certainly a new driver design so I have to buy one... Rumor has it that Stax will indeed release a new portable system but I have no details on it...

What amp to power OII, HE60, and HE Audio 'stats?
Exactly but people might like the effect none the less. Stranger things have happened...

The Lambda Pro is very, very good but I prefer the original SR-Lambda, Nova Signature over all. My issues with the L-Pro are the slightly uneven bass and treble response plus the midrange is a bit recessed. Without direct comparisons to the other models you would have a hard time spotting these but they are there.

Don't you have SR-202's? No midrange "shouting" on that one...

There have been rumors of a premium Lambda for some time now but I still don't see the point of it. Now if they had taken the 4070 and simply changed the cup design it would be killer but this... I'm not so sure... These bridge the two stators and protect them for voltage over 450V so you can damage the diaphragm

Not a close one at least...

I did fix one set of drivers permanently to the baffle and while it did make a difference, it was quite small and certainly didn't fix the midrange peak of the SR-404. Going by my experience with the SR-007Mk2/A this shout has more to do with the distance from the drivers to the ears which is why my well worn set doesn't have any. Either that or it is an Airbow SR-SC1 with the label on the plug removed... The baffle is aluminum and it is quite thick, 3-4mm.

But... but... the stick is so much more fun. Ohh well... the HD600 is a solid choice for anyone but they do need a good amp to sound really good which could always be an upgrade path later on.

So is there magic also involved with the headphones? I thought said magic only applied to the amps and naturally the cables... Never been a fan of the 650 but for the price it isn't a bad dynamic. Still I'd take a 600 over it for even less money...

The ultimate DIY? A Stax SRM-T2!
At least you aren't doing meth... which would probably be cheaper and less harmful then all this high voltage...

What did you do today?
It's just 10am but I've already ripped open my ESX amp as the left channel was distorting. Found nothing wrong with it so it is probably the crappy octal tube sockets I had to use due to the huge holes Mikhail had cut in the chassis or that is just needed some tlc... Holy crap this amp sounds good though. Not overly warm, dull, flat and lifeless like the WES but neutral and with impressive control over the SR-007 without a CCS in sight.

Amp suggestions for Senn 800 and Audeze LCD-2 please...
I'd love to see their reasoning for this. Probably sounds moar bettah or something stupid like that.

Advice on some power conditioning
I'd blame the meter here. No auto-ranging usually means cheap meter and they are often worse than useless... Faulty wiring could be something as simple as the phase being reversed somewhere...

Advice on some power conditioning
What multimeter and how did you measure it, AC range with a probe on each of the AC poles? 70VAC down from 117V is very strange indeed and most gear wouldn't even function

I used the SR-007 with a 313 for a long time (until I got my old BH) and it is a good amp on a budget, certainly not worse then the Exstata.

Amp suggestions for Senn 800 and Audeze LCD-2 please...
Rudistor is the worst value out there and most of the stuff makes Singlepower gear look well designed and made to last. He always uses the cheapest crap he can find, all the circuit boards are basic tin plated copper (i.e. like ARC for some reason still uses ) naturally with no ground plane. Cheap Hifi-2000 chassis and a Alps RK27 in a 4k$ amp...

Yup and add to that what ever SS amp needs... output capacitors... I for one never liked that amp and would take a Dynalo over it...

Let's just say there is a reason for the "isolated amplifier modules" and no reason at all for the massive heatsinks...
