  1. A few thoughts: Color print film is fun, but a bit of a gamble. Frame for frame, it's not going to consistently best a modern digital camera. If you're serious about color film photography, you'll end up shooting slide film and having it processed by professionals. Proper scanning of side or print film is just as important as the developing. In the past, I encountered rolls where the prints looked great and the scans were awful. The answer is to buy a scanner and do it yourself. Professional labs will do competent scans of slide film, but not cheaply. Black and white print film is a totally different universe. There is an awful lot of latitude in exposure, and a lifetime of creative control in the print. I think it was Ansel Adams who said "The exposure is the score, the print is the performance" but it might have been someone else (Knuckles has not had his coffee yet.) Lastly, if prints from scans look the same as from negatives, than the guy doing it is a hack.
  2. Slower Forum!
  3. Thanks for the birthday wishes. I had a fairly sedate one, especially compared to last year. I've now entered the age of the Wu Tang: 36 chambers (which came out 18 years ago this year. Lawn. Off.)
  4. Wow. End of an era. I dislike the new name.
  5. Was visited by some friends from Boston, who took me out to dinner. Bought a bottle of Scotch. Hung out with said friends, drinking said whiskey copious amounts of smack. Now sobering up a bit so I can go pick up [wah wah guitar]
  6. New bottle of Talisker 10. Wahoo!

  8. Locked my FUCKING keys in my FUCKING car.
  9. A giant pot of chili. It's been simmering for ...over 8 hours now.
  10. I woke up today at 7:45AM ...after going to bed at 11:30AM yesterday. (I was awake for about an hour in between.) I had just a wee bit of a sleep deficit after the holidays. Yesterday I DJ'd the afterparty from ~7AM-10AM, starting at ~60BPM and working my way up to a breakneck 110BPM. Uncharacteristically, I drank little bit while I was out. An old friend of mine surprised me with a bottle of Laphroaig 10. Today I've been idly cleaning the house, making a tertiary backup of all my non-music, non-photo data, and working on a giant pot of chili (now in its 6th hour of cooking). Tomorrow I have two friends from out of town visiting. I plan on keeping things low key.
  11. A truly obscene amount of games on Steam. Even moreso if one includes all the games I've purchased during the two week day holiday sale. Now I just need a proper gaming rig. A nice 12 core Mac Pro should do it.
