  1. I really liked the jerg pads, was a bit of a chore to make but well worth it imo.
  2. So many options and it seems like most volume controls are a compromise in one way or another. I think i might just get a cheap alps and some resistors so i can keep the pot at 12 atleast for a good listening volume. Then i can take a good look at some of the options. Right now the 41 step from acoustic dimension looks nice and it is cheaper then a dact or gold point if i were to go for a stepped pot, it has both smd and a normal resistor version. I take it the latter is better? The tentlabs is pretty much out of the question at this point. I'm not willing to spend more then 200€ after seeing the price points of competitive solutions. Perhaps i should just go alps now and wait for another batch of Kevin's boards....
  3. I wonder what pot they use in that one. But still i'm looking for something i can integrate into the crack chassis, my rack is pretty much full now
  4. That 8th note one looks allot nicer then the tentlabs, specs wise and also when it comes to integration. No need to do woodwork on the base etc. Unfortunately he doesn't seem to be making them anymore though i found a forum post from december stating he still had some single ended units left, i think i'll shoot him a mail. The only experience i have with digital volume control which is quite good to my ears is from the V800 dac, still though only from about 2 o'clock and later. But maybe you're right and it is just too much hassle, i mean once you get to 12 on the pot it should track quite accurate right?
  5. That one surely looks nice but don't you have to be part of a group buy which also might take a while? Not sure if i can live with this shitty pot for that long haha. About the display well i was thinking of placing it behind transparent dark piece of plastic. Also looks nice but probably a bit above my current skill level So many choices... i'm going to have to think about it if i actually want remote control and instead just stand up and not be so lazy, the extra inputs on the tentlabs are nice though..
  6. So i just build a crack /w speedball and it all went well and it is sounding great. Except that the stock pot is pretty shit and i wouldn't mind a remote control. After some searching i came across this one: http://www.tentlabs.com/Components/page31/page31.html Some specs: Input impedance: > 40 k-ohm (actual value depends on volume setting) Output impedance: < 8 k-ohm (actual value depends on volume setting) Power: AC or DC, 6 to 10V max, current max 150mA DC, 225mA AC (power connector supplied with module) Volume setting: 64 steps of 1.0 dB Channel imbalance: < 0.15 dB Inputs: 4 Input / Output connectors: Cinch / RCA (can be supplied without connectors on special order) Remote control: Not included, can be programmed by Philips / Marantz models and most Sony types Power on/off output: Open collector The added input selection is nice too(i have been thinking about a vinyl setup) and it seems to have enough steps for my use. And it's not much more expensive than a dact which lacks steps anyway. I'm pretty much a beginner when it comes to this stuff but i reckon i can integrate it pretty easily, there's a 6.3v terminal on the transformer to power it. I plan to have the display and volume on the front and maybe a headphone jack as well and the input's on the back. What do you guys think? Does this look like a good piece of kit?
  7. I went back for a couple of hours but i just can't deal with the stock sound after having heard the anax 2.0 mod.
  8. Tyll put up his review and it was no surprise, other then that he actually went through with posting it. I was thinking though looking at the inside of the cups, perhaps a mod like the HD800 would help? It looks quite similair with the ring around the driver being a reflective surface. Anyway... I might start reading the thread on the other place for comedic value, i smell a shitstorm brewing hahahaha.
  9. Very sad indeed, R.I.P. This does note bode well for the future of the Ghostbusters franchise
  10. The K271 studio is nice except for the bass imo. But you can improve it if you change the pads for some beyer DT-770 ones, this will also improve the comfort allot. But still bass shy, i like the beyer DT-150 better, ugly as fuck but built like a tank and there are spare parts for everything. It does not have the beyer treble, very neutral to my ears and it shouldn't be too expensive either.
  11. I have the regular 103 and i find the upscaler to work just fine. If i was buying a new player now i might buy it but i would always get my tv isf calibrated first. That is a very big difference to my eyes, i have the Panny GT60 plasma and when i got it it looked amazing. But after the calibration the factory image looks dull and lifeless in comparison and also some of the colors look unrealistic.
  12. Google with a little help of "-site:www.head-fi.org"
  13. Agreed, i bought a heatgun once to fix the nvidia gpu in my laptop and it worked two times for a while and then i just said fuck it.
  14. Ok thanks, i'll shoot him a pm or maybe he wants to share his impression here.
  15. I'm researching some tube amp's atm but for now i just ordered a crack and speedball kit to hold me over till i find something i really like. People seem to praise it with the 800's so at the very least i will learn something and if i'm lucky it will be the amp for me. And since i have been making my own cables for a couple of years now this looks like the logical next step.
  16. My back was messed up a couple of years ago due to having to sit all day so i got a swopper, sounds weird, looks even weirder but the pain is gone and my back is strong and healthy now. It Basicaly forces your spine into a natural shape and engages muscles that would be inactive in a normal chair. It's like one of those balls but it doesn't take as much space and it's adjustable. Not really a chair i know but maybe of interest to someone.
  17. The thing is with addiction there is usually not one cause short of someone walking up to you and stuffing a needle in your arm. Every person is different and so are their addiction's, sure there are similarities but everyone has their own causes and reasons. People just like to put labels on it so it's easier to judge and that happens with allot of things and i think it's fucking stupid. Put em in a box! Oh wait there are more who do that? Get a bigger box! Anyway... I've struggled with addiction for about 20 years and i have been clean for about 4.5 years now and the only reason i got clean was because i found the reason why i felt i needed it. If you have the willpower and motivation you can fight it but you can never truely win because the battle goes on till you die, i know i have to fight urges every single day but i know myself and my limitations and i found some ways to adapt or make it work for me. For example get addicted to good things. Like good sounding music, working out allot and generally keep yourself busy and be tired at the end of the day. Make your addiction work for you... Like the saying goes an idle mind is the devil's playground and that certainly is true in my case.
  18. Why do the good ones always have to die and we end up stuck with the dime a dozen hollywood fucktards. Rip..
  19. I like the glass top idea, maybe it would have a nice effect with some tinted glass. Any idea on a price range? I generally don't buy gear from overseas but you make some nice stuff, the L2 is damn sexy.
  20. Wish they'd hurry up with iOS 7.1 these low memory crashes on my air are starting to piss me off. Affects mostly safari though but that happens to be what i use most of the time....
