  1. He looked like he was really trying in the 200m; unlike the 100m.
  2. We have professionals as well. Just not as highly paid - Andrew Bogut (Aussie) plays in the US for the Milwaukee Bucks and has just signed for 5 years $60M, which seems pretty good [understatment]. But, of course he's carrying an injury. I wonder whether the Olympic committee will ever consider basketball to be waaay too professional for the olympics. But, I guess the same could be said for the tennis as well. I guess both of these sport still draw great crowds, so maybe that's the real benefit; as a publicity drawcard. It is interesting to note that olympic soccer restricts the teams to under 21s (or 23s?), with only 3 overage players allowed. I don't know whether that would make any difference to basketball.
  3. Australia plays US in basketball tonight. I'd love to think that the Aussies are in with a chance. Hmmm... just can't see it happening though.
  4. Bolt didn't even seem to be trying in the last 15m, and he seemed to get a slower start than in the heats.
  5. Of course, my interest was far less about the ass kicking, and more about the speed of the game and the athleticism. Of course, I'd heard names like Lebron James and Kobe Bryant in the news, but never really paid much attention. These guys rocked!!! Of course, it's possible that because of the pretty poor show by the China team the US team simply looked so much better. I'll keep an eye out for future games to see whether my initial impressions stand. I'll stop rabbiting on about it now. I don't want a rep as a US basketball fanboy
  6. It seems that China just turned the ball over way too much and got punished for it most of the time. I couldn't get over the athleticism of the US team. These guys just are just amazing. I normally find basketball a bit dull, but that game just rocked. Is that the quality of basketball you Americans get to watch on a regular basis? If it is, I think I'd watch basketball a lot more. By way of contrast, I watched the Australia V Brasil Women's game last night. While there was certainly some fine 3 point shooting, the game was just so much slower and simply less entertaining.
  7. Did anyone watch the USA V China Basketball? China certainly has some tall guys, but the US can certainly play entertaining basketball. And, I'm not really a basketball fan.
  8. I don't know about either of these drives, but what power supply and case are you going to use? In my ongoing search for a reasonably priced quiet PC the power supply fan is now the only thing that I can hear apart from the very occasional low level read/write noise of my HD. As a possible alternative to a silent drive, have you considered a quite HD enclosure? http://www.quietpc.com/gb-en-gbp/products/harddrivesolutions
  9. The Pimeta is a good little amp and simple enough build, but the BUF634 is still hard to get. There are a couple of guys over at head-fi who sell CMoy PCBs, if you were after a different CMoy build. One of the boards has a bass boost circuit, as I recall. Like many other DIYers, I started with the humble Tangent CMoy. I still believe that it is a great starting point. It is a gentle entry into reading circuits and the buid is quite straightforward. It is also a simple enough amp that if it doesn't work, it is not such daunting proposition to debug your build.
  10. Bizarre patent title: Apparatus for cutting off the arse of slaughtered poultry esp@cenet document view
  11. It was a good weekend for some buying off eBay. I picked up a second hand Richter Griffin centre speaker to replace my little Paradigm CC-150 for my home theatre system. I also picked up a set of ECC88 tubes, and some obbligato and some Russian K40 capacitors for my Bijou.

  13. I'm struggling to figure out whether that's real. The reflection of the photographer would suggest that it is. If it is, who the hell thought of that? It reminds me of that old anti war slogan Fighting for peace is like fucking for virginty
  14. I thought it was funny.
  15. Image:World happiness.png - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I agree. Most people I know 'seem' happy enough, and research suggests that most people globally are happy enough. However, there are detractors who question whether our subjective assessment of our own happiness is based on delusion; that we don't actually know what real happiness is. Harvard Gazette: Sissela Bok stalks the notion of happiness This wine study appears to offer support to the delusion theory.

  17. There's a difference between saying dumb things and being slack with grammar and missing a fullstop on an internet forum Is there a problem?
  18. At least pets might look cute when they say dumb thing, which is more than can be said for most people
  19. Why are there so few happy people is the world I wonder?
  20. K701 -> HD580 -> HD540 reference gold -> D2000 -> K501 -> MX550 -> Shure E2c -> EP630 -> SR125 -> various other stuff Not much more to say really.
  21. Has anyone here compared the D2000 and D5000. As best as I could figure they were almost identical, apart from the wood. There was a lot of talk about the biggest difference in sound being caused by the cable. I installed a D5000 on my D2000 and couldn't tell the difference. I really liked the D2000 when I first got them, but after realising that they didn't scale well I moved them on.
  22. Maybe I need to keep looking for the can that satisfies all of my tastes. The K701 powered by the Bijou is certainly getting close BTW, I am starting to rethink my views on the D2000. After listening to the K701/ Bijou for the last week, I went back to my D2000/M
