    New O2 + KGSS Rig

Seriously, I never thought I would say that, but I think the OII is a pretty good deal for the price. I see a lot of people on H-F rolling dynamic cans in the 300-500$ range and never being satisfied. They lose money in the process and end up buying different cans for different purposes. If they want to buy the really high-end dynamic cans (K1000, HP-2, L3000, R10, HE90...), they have to pay the same price or more than a used pair of OII. Sure, the electrostatic amps cost a lot of money, but the good dynamic amps also cost a lot. It may not be the same for everyone, but with the OII, I don't feel the need anymore to buy another pair of headphones. It covers all the genres of music that I listen very well, it sounds realistic (for headphones), it's incredibly detailed, it's comfortable and it scales well with good equipment. I have not heard the R10, HE90, and L3000, but at the prohibitive prices they sell, I'm not interested. Anyway, all that to say that the OII rocks.

    New O2 + KGSS Rig

The OII/member ratio is growing pretty fast on Head-case. From memory, there's me, tkam, postjack, Duggeh, spritzer, deepak, justin, boomana, kevin gilmore, Elpheas. Anyone else?

    New O2 + KGSS Rig

Very nice rig! The OII is like a drug, I can't get them off my head and I bet the KGSS make them even more addictive.
  5. Yup, it's pretty sweet. I didn't have a lot of time to listen to it while I was at home, but I plan to do some extended listening when I get back from work tonight. I'm getting closer to my "final" setup. My objective is to keep everything under 3500$, which leaves some space for a KGSS or a potential vinyl rig.
  6. I bought the Duet sooner today and I've been listening to it for about 10 minutes. First impression is good, the bass is a lot tighter than the 0404 USB and the overall sound has more clarity and sparkle. One thing that I don't like though is the fugly breakout cable. It takes almost as much place on my desk than the Duet itself. I'll probably try making my own cable soon enough. Any tips about how to set it up correctly? I've put the line-out at 0db, is there anyway to lock it there?

    dvorak

I was about to type a recommendation for Dvorak's American String Quartet. It's a lot more pleasure than a keyboard layout. One of my friends once tried to convert me to Dvorak and while I appreciate the idea, I'm too lazy to re-learn how to type. I like the principle behind it though, in the same way that I like Linux, but use OSX. Good luck with your learning.
  8. Sorry, that sentence worked in my head (in French), but the translation job was roughly done.
  9. I agree with that and I understand why he needs advertising, but my point was that he should at least post an official word about the ads on the left. It was supposed to be for Can Jam only, but now it seems to be a permanent solution.
  10. I posted on H-F in the thread about this subject and my subtle reference to the RIP extension got deleted in less than two minutes. I knew it would end up like this, but I felt like doing a test. Anyway, Jude PMed me to explain that this part of the message was deleted for "obvious reasons". While I understand why he would do this, I asked him if it would be possible for him to post his official word about this matter instead of letting people speculating. We'll see if it works.
  11. Interesting read, if you ever find a way to make a more stable connection let us know.
  12. That sucks, I was hoping for plug and play. I'll have to find a place that sells non-shitty adapter or get into DIY cables.
  13. I forgot to ask, what's the deal with the breakout cable? I see people making custom cables for the Duet, but can I connect it to my RCA amp inputs with the stock cable?
  14. I have a MacBook, that's why I'm interested in the Duet. I've found a place in Montreal that sells it for 501.18CAD, it seems like a fair price and there's 7-day return period with full refund, so I'll probably go with that. That's good to hear. I was very interested in the Duet when it came out, but I wanted to wait a little while to see if the opinions would change with time.
  15. I'm thinking of getting a Duet to replace my E-MU 0404 USB. Is it a worthy upgrade, considering I only use the device as a DAC to feed a Stax amp? I'm not interested in spending big bucks on a digital source for the moment because I plan to get myself a vinyl rig in the summer, so the Duet seems like a good compromise. Anyway, I'm curious to read your opinions about this.

    jinp6301 is 21!

Happy birthday, now get yourself drunk just because you officially can.
  17. Hey, I didn't know you were a Head-caser too. You should get your Stax phones and amp before the end of the week unless you're truly unlucky.
  18. What does KGST stand for? Every time I see this, I think "Kevin Gilmore Self-Titled". Would be a pretty pompous name for an amp.
  19. That's true, I probably wouldn't enjoy the OII as I do right now if I hadn't heard the SR-404 and Lambda Signature before. In fact, I auditionned the OII for half an hour at a headfier's house a little more than a month ago out of a SRM-717 and a nice CEC CD player and I wasn't too impressed. When I received the OII a week ago though, I took time to properly A/B them with the Lambda Signature and let's just say they're not even in the same league (and that's coming from a poor man's OII setup). I read a comment somewhere saying that the SR-007 are not meet-friendly and I guess that's right, you need to spend a long time with them to understand what they do.
  20. Bought and sold mine for ~500$. I've searched in the FS threads on H-F when I first purchased them and prices go as low as 250$, but that was two or three years ago. I'm sure Spritzer would know better than me, but I guess 400-600$ is a realist price range. IMO, you should skip directly to the OII, that's what we all do in the end.
  21. Congratulations to both of you, best of luck.
  22. Those guys are pretty hardcore (or so I've heard).
  23. Does that have anything to do with porn?
