  1. That's pretty hardcore man, I hope you take the time to listen to all of the stuff. At that rate, you must have an awesome collection. I'm in team "music first" too and I usually buy 2-3 discs per week, but I rarely have the time to listen to them and "know" them as much I'd like. I can't imagine with 12 per week.
  2. That's true, most of the discussions in the music section are classic-rock oriented, which matches SH tastes. They also tend to overemphasize the importance of mastering sometimes when talking of night & day day differences, but we kinda do the same thing with headphones here and even more on H-F.
  3. I think SH uses a pair of ALO-recabled K701. His speaker setup is pretty godly though.
  4. I'm in the same situation. These guys know a lot more stuff than me about recording and mastering and I never feel like I can contribute with something informative that hasn't already been said.
  5. Never tried Peach Cobbler, I don't think they have it at my grocery store. Sounds delicious. Half-baked never stays too long in my fridge, it's just too good to sit there not being eaten. I particularly like that flavor because they pack a lot of big chunks of brownies and cookies in it. I don't buy that stuff too often though, with all that fat and cholesterol in there, it requires at least 30 minutes of jogging on the next day.
  6. Yeah, THC is pretty easy to find up here. It's been a while since I rolled one with my friends though... since I started university, beer pretty much replaced weed.
  7. You need to come to Montreal. In a radius of a 10 minutes walk starting at Metro Mont-Royal, there are about 7-8 shops with an excellent selection of CDs and a decent selection of vinyls. Usually, I make myself a list of 10 albums that I'm looking for and end up finding 3 or 4 everytime. I have only around 400 CDs though so there's still a lot of stuff to explore.
  8. Congrats on the rig deepak, the OII have been rocking my ears for the last few weeks.
  9. I've compared both side to side and they don't share the same sound signature at all, sorry to disappoint you. :-p In fact, even the Lambdas don't sound much like the OII, but they have their own strengths.
  10. Foobar is one of the very few programs from Windows that I miss. iTunes looks like a program for retarded kids compared to it.
  11. I think I finally found a layout that makes sense on both iTunes and my iPod: The only thing I don't like is that it separates the two works with a line no matter what I do, so there's no way to list them as a single album.
  12. Head-case takes a lot hours to burn in, it only gets better with time.
  13. The thing that annoys me the most is that I have a lot of CDs with multiple works on them by different composers and/or conductors and I'm not sure how to deal with that. I could choose to list these CDs as full albums like my rock and jazz CDs, but that means I won't be able to browse by composer. I could also list all the different works on the CDs as single works, but I would loose the "album" concept. Either way, I have to make a compromise.
  14. I'm going through the process of ripping my music collection in ALAC and I'm having a hard time finding a right way to tag classical files. I'm quite anal about tagging my music and keeping it clean, but with classical music, it seems like there's no proper way. How do you manage your collection?
  15. Played tennis outside this morning for the first time of the summer. I had some trouble with my forehand shots at the beginning, but it was alright after a while. I play a lot of squash during the winter, but there's nothing like a tennis game on a nice sunny day.
  16. Congrats on the Duet, I'm sure you'll love it. I haven't had the chance to compare to 1000+$ DACs, but it's certainly a great value for the price.

    The Live Music Thread

Montreal Symphony Orchestra last concert of the season: Kent Nagano, conductor Till Fellner, pianist Ludwig van Beethoven, Piano Concerto No. 5 (Emperor) Dmitri Shostakovich, Symphony No. 7 (Leningrad) I had never heard that Shostakovich symphony before and it was great experience live. It's supposed to represent the Nazi invasion of URSS and I could totally picture it in my head during some sections. The Beethoven concerto was great too, the pianist was very precise and the orchestra followed well. I always suck at finding the right words for describing classical concerts, but you get the picture.
  18. Add PS-1 and RS-1 with flats and I agree.
