  7. Primarily for Heat dissipation but it's also an attempt to keep their stray inductance from affecting the rest of the circuit. Could he have put that switch in a worse spot? I swear the switcher for the heaters looks exactly like an off the shelf unit.

As far as how good the Alien DAC is: It's not something you would use to drive headphones directly but other then that it's pretty OK.
  19. I would venture to guess they are pivot points that allow the headband to be rotated so they could be used as behind the head or conventional headphones but......
