  1. hey, thanks! I wonder what the price is less than 10. I suppose its either those or the Avel donuts I posted above: - Avel Y236107 qty 1 = $22.47 + $11.39 shipping ($33.86 each) qty 5 = $21.35 + $13.55 shipping ($24.06 each) I think half of the interested parties in the parts kit wanted a "budget" version, so perhaps the Avel makes more sense here... Opinions?

Also, the picture attached looks like a PCB mount... Opinions?
  3. it's used for the "Kevin Gilmore Cryo Challenge"
  4. exactly what it does in this case... ok, I'll give it a go. Thanks guys!
  5. The example would better be if it went like this: a buyer walks into a car dealership and looks up the guy who sold him his last 2 cars, and sold cars to 2 of his close friends. Car salesman then charges more than car is worth.
  6. PowerCon... Interesting idea... I'll look in the morning.
  7. yup, looks good. I usually include 20% for transformer headroom, as not to draw more than 80% of rated current from the transformer, but you're good in this case.
  8. no bad at all, considering I had so much cable to work with (four conductors in each side). On another cable related issue, I have a Neutrik cable that I've made a mistake and am trying to use too thick of a cable. The bottom part barely fits and then I can hook up the section that takes the wire and then place the third part over this section and screw it onto the first... problem is, I cannot get the strain relief section that usually goes on second to fit. As a result it's not working so well..... any way to rig this up somehow, or is this not even coherent...
  9. I think a lot of people involved with this know exactly where to kick I'm not, so I'll shut up.... I've given my $0.02 above anyways.
  10. heh, plus it was a leading question that no one fell into... I can see paying more to recoup R&D costs.... but hitting up Kevin for what electrostatic amp should I put into production and then using something off a Stax manual doesn't qualify as R&D in my book. Pars: My real beef is that people pay for it in part because they trust Mikhail (RSA, etc.), *not* because the market will bear it. Granted, he rightly earned people's respect with his first amps, as they sound good and are reasonably priced (yes, I own one)... but I think this trust was taken advantage of. I don't have the words right now to flesh this line of thought out, but this is what I think the real problem is/was/will be. If I'm in the minority, so be it... I'm happy here.
  11. well.. I have a stock cable that I converted to balanced... anyways, a fine looking cable... however, I do have to say that the lower end Furutech stuff is crap in my opinion (XLR chassis connectors, IEC inlet, 0.25" TRS plug, etc.).
  12. yes. R2 drops about a quarter of a volt, so around 4.7/0.25 per board.. 50mA with headroom.
  13. while no pics yet, I finished up my first Senn cable using the new Cardas connectors. It is an 8 conductor cable, with 3 different gauges of wire. I was wondering, do you use the larger pin on the connector for ground, or signal?
  14. I'd be interested, if it was encapsulated / shielded. Digipete, you want to take the lead on this one?
  15. ^^^ I don't think so... anyways, I suppose no one really sees where I'm coming from, as there aren't many "amen brother!"'s out there. I suppose I'd run a business a bit different from him, that's all...
  16. yeah, what if I could sell something for $1,000,000 that cost me $1? Artful pricing, or con artist?
  17. mods: can we move this to the DIY forum and retitle the thread? I did some research on the transformer today, and here are some options: - Plitron transformer (part number #017017201) 30VAC @ 0.5A 30VA qty 1 = $64.21 US + $23.46 US shipping ($87.67 US each) qty 5 = $304.35 US + $33.89 US shipping ($67.78 US each) - Ebay R-Core transformer (R80-35 0-28-35 X2(1A)、0-5 (3A).0-12 X2(2A)) 100W R-Core Transformer 110V//240V ,Pre amplifier / DAC - eBay (item 250259952059 end time Jul-16-08 01:25:05 PDT) qty 1 = $83.00 US shipped - Avel Y236107 qty 1 = $22.47 + $11.39 shipping ($33.86 each) qty 5 = $21.35 + $13.55 shipping ($24.06 each)
  18. really? so if I sold an amp for $100,000 that cost me $2,000 to make, you don't think this implies anything about the purveyor of such an establishment?
  19. one more thing... I will be offering a basic part kit. If you're interested and I haven't already contacted you, then *you* contact me
  20. boards have been ordered. On the subject of parts, since there's a relatively low number of boards (8 stereo sets) and I'm such a great guy, I'd consider tracking down (some if not all) the parts for people if there's interest. My strategy at this point is to wait on the boards to see if slightly larger parts will fit in a few locations, and then wait until the end of the month when parts connexion announces their next monthly sale. If it's resistors, then that would be a score... and less of a score if capacitors, but anyways. In the meantime I'll get the boards and order the rest of the parts from Digikey. If you're interested in this, then I'll charge you for the Digikey parts once I place the order and then a separate payment for the partsConnexion order. now we wait.... cheers!
  21. if I cared, I'd find someone with a broken ES-1 and offer to fix it. Then I'd go up to work and use an audio analyzer and look for oscillations that I suspect to occur with Stax that may or may not occur with the Senn stats. But, I don't care.
  22. last call for the 2 people who haven't paid. You have until midnight tonite (7/13/08 12:00 central) to pay, otherwise there's not much I can do. Sorry about that.
  23. I believe the DAC is underneath... It's a single TDA1543 with passive I/V. Transformers are power trannys.
