Welcome Wayne! Downsizing to a $40k system? Dunno if that's even possible. Once you go below a certain price it's all crappy shit anyway. I think you need to budget for at least $50k or you might as well buy a ipod, boosteroo and some Ross phones. I hate trying to suggest systems to cheapasses.

x2, a more economy minded version would be welcome. They can even use plain old plastic and a more conventional cup/band assembly if they want, as long as the driver is awesome I can live with cheap plastic housings, it works for the 650

The beta 3-board here has a gain of 8 and I have to max the volume to get reasonable listening levels from my Isodynamics and orthodynamics so a little more wouldn't go amiss for me with the Dyna.
