  1. Nice, threadded sinks seem like an obvious upgrade.
  2. Ta Beefy
  3. Some Maple burl and friction shellac. Not nearly as nice looking as the poplar burl but they only have big $50 or higher chunks now.
  4. Yeah, that quick chip is awesome shit. I dobbed it on and the chip just fell off! However, before I started, I didn't realize how easily it melts and it dripped on everything
  5. Not exactly today, but yesterday I had a go at whittling MDF... damn that stuff's nice to work with. I'd forgotten how good decent MDF can be for doing things really quickly and smoothly. Not too pretty but really nice and strong too.
  6. Thanks Tom, yes simple is good or my old pea brain gets confused. Next Q What in basic terms does cascoding mean and do? I hear it bandied about frequently and when I look it up on wikipedia it explains it with more jargon
  7. No, just simplicity, and less arguing the intricacies of theoretical stuff us nubs don't understand anyway We want basic answers to basic questions.
  8. Spaceman Billy still going strong, what a guy!
  9. less listening, moar Beta fixing..
  10. that some amazing selection of gear over in the Eastern provinces. You guys don't cheapskate it do you.
  11. no wonder people outside our hobby point and laugh!
  12. I wish... No, I'm limited to whittling lumps of wood and soldering things badly
  13. I think matching both sides makes sense.
  14. Sounds like a great meet!
  15. heh, very cool.

Nope, perfectly serious. I need to keep box count and wires to a minimum. I will only be using one amp at a time and that will also cut down costs significantly as I'm going to have 3 amps that ideally need a s-11 so to me it all makes perfect sense as long as I go about it properly. It's going to be running a wide range of phone types and allow me to have a trio of great amps I'd otherwise be unable to pull off financially. It's a win project all around with no downside from my perspective. Plus it'll be both tube and solid state. One other reason I want a big boxis that I want to integrate Stax and Sony transfo boxed in it as well. I'm basically looking at a all-in-one super package to last me forever with superb flexibility and sound. That's not too much to ask is it
  17. Awesome... ok this is, of curse, open to all dumb newb questions as I'm sure many of us have questions about the little things that are so frustrating.
  18. Yeah, I already bought a bunch but was unsure if it would screw anything up using mixed wattage parts.
  19. As long as they physically fit a board or are doing P2P it's all good with me. Some of these resistors are tiny and I'd prefer working with something a bit bigger where I can. I asked because finding specific voltage/value resistors can be a pain when trying to get stuff locally when I'm in a hurry. I know, rat shack and the like aren't the best option but at least they're there and have what I need even though tolerances are at about 5%. I can live with that in a push.
  20. Thanks Justin. so as long as they're the right value bigger voltage ratings don't matter? Sweet.

Cool. I figure it'd be easier to lug one amp rather than three as long as I fit it with some big-ass carry handles. Mind you, it's not like those three together would weigh much, just need to be careful with spacing and ventilation. I reckon one of those bigger dissipante boxes or similar should do the job.
  22. It seems you bastards have finally led me to a trail of misery and pain and I feel I should repay you with dumb questions. I plan on this thread growing as my dumbness expands into more areas. I'll start with one question that's been bugging me for a little while.. Resistors. Does the power rating matter as long as they're not underrated for any particular circuit? I've seen 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 watt and so on. Does it matter as far as performance/sound goes?

that's what I wanted to hear Now, how to squeeze a B22, DynaFET and EHHA in one case.... must find huge case with dividers.
  24. Hi Wes, welcome aboard. My questions are more general interest in names. So, Neko=cat hence the logo, but is your name actually Miaw and is it pronounced meeow because if so that would be the best naming set evar!
