Soldering iron
Only if it has digital control and a rusty pointy bit.

Group Build: Dynafet
So if the transo needs upgrading to feed the Dynafet boards, will that screw with the beta in any way? I don't want to be underpowering or overpowering either set of boards and I don't know enough about this stuff to know.

Ok, so I am in for two populated boards and will send $160 this weekend if that's ok. Hopefully DigiPete is still willing to populate my boards. I also hear my B22 Sigma may not have enough juice to run the Dynafet boards, is there a specific transo that will do the job as I don't currently know what is in there.

Soldering iron
I need to get a better soldering iron than the one I currently have and was wondering if there are any opinions of the Weller WP35. It looks like a decent iron and is in the price range I can afford. A full electronically controlled station is too costly so this looked ideal for me. If you know of a better iron at around the same price (no higher) please advise.

Here's a pic of some poplar burl veneer I found. Looks almost identical It really is pretty stuff.

No, I had a good talk with the guys, they have a shitload of maple burl too. This is from a cut down garden poplar that someone gave the guy to get rid of the tree. He cut it up and had it stored and drying in his attic for the last two years. There are a couple of boxes of varied sizes and thicknesses. The whole reason the woodshop bought it was that it was an exceptional find! I'm going back for more...

Hehe, I promise I also have some beautiful African blackwood offcuts to make tube and volume surrounds for it as well as feet. Should be one sexy SS if I can figure out P to P

Now imagine it with two little tubes and a gold volume knob poking out the top *drool*

Actually I bought it primarily for making a sexy slab case for a Starving Student amp However, the remainder will be cups and I've had some success turning small burl, this is more lumpy so we'll see. It's the first time I've come across poplar burl and was very surprised at how nice it is. Cheap-ish too. That piece was $20 and If I had the cash I'd buy more. It's perfect as a Beta 22 front panel too. I hope they don't sell out too quick because when I put some mirror coat on it this was the result.....

My mini3 left channel is dead
Hmm, I never thought to check the tubes.... I tried it with a few phones and a different mini-mini just to make sure, it's definitely something inside. Anyway, I have to go get some stuff before I start so wish me luck... the asshat is about to prep for surgery

My mini3 left channel is dead
Looks Like I'm gonna have to have a dig around in there to see if I can tell what's wrong and try to fix it. I hope it's simple like the jack connection. I'll pop it open and post some gratuitous pics in a bit...

Sweet! In other news, the headband arrived today

On my question, yes I'd be treating them as two separate amps that happen to share one case with two sets of inputs, two volumes and two headphone sockets so umbilical plugging isn't any problem. I'm not looking at a complex solution, just a simple and neat one. Switch off power, swap umbilical socket, power on... Is that reasonable? Edit: I will be feeding both from a Pico DAC so parallel input would be nice as my source will be USB for 90% of the time

Nate, or other experienced B22 maker, how hard do you think switching between B22 and Dynafet boards would be so they can both be run from the same Sigma PSU via either a switch or cable plug? I'm not asking you to do it, just seeing if you can think of a neat and practical way of switching amps in the same case. Maybe sigma> umbilical> dual inputs (beta, Dyna) each having their own inputs/outputs and vol control in one case. Whadda you guys think?

I was thinking of getting one but remembered I already have an Audio Note gold knob at home.
