  1. Yeah, for a while now. Yeah, that one. I was up at the Borders that's right next to it on Sunday, and I saw that they still had the sign up, so I drove by slowly, and they had a big sign that said "Last 8 Days", so...Monday or Tuesday should be it. It already looked pretty devastated, so I don't have high hopes, but ... you never know. I'm going up tomorrow (just got permission to take the day off).
  2. Yeah, I'm on the buy.com emailing list and the overstock.com emailing list and the audioadvisor.com emailing list (not that they offer hard drives). This is almost a whole 'nother thread, as to which external hard drive to get. eCost has good prices for externals (500gb and 1tb) up to about 1tb (seems to be the "sweet spot" -- after that, you start paying more for having that much storage in one box), so I don't feel the need to jump on that any time soon. Also going up to a closing CompUSA tomorrow, I'll see what they have left.
  3. I don't have photoshop, so you don't have to worry about me. And I like the fact that it's reading good. I really like that.
  4. The electrostatic sound, to me, is a certain "sheen" to the music, like a slight lump in the high frequency response. Not sure at what frequency it peaks, but I think it's just a little bit lower than the presence region. And, like tubes, it doesn't exist in all electrostatics. Just as you can have a very tubey tube amp (Wheatfield), or a very dry tube amp (Singlepower [mine, anyway -- not all of them]), you can have an electrostatic rig that has that signature sound, but you can -- through tuning -- get rid of it as well.
  5. What color(s) did you get? Depending on the timing (I.E. not now), I may be interested in one.
  6. Why doesn't he just copy the file locally and watch them that way?
  7. Someone needs to photoshop this picture so that it says "meh" in the middle.
  8. That's weird, depending which computer I'm on, those show up as question marks.
  9. Flag Semaphore I bet you figure out what the entire phrase says by the fourth letter. I'm also disappointed that you didn't figure it out when you quoted it -- the letters are right there in the names of the images (Delta ==> D, etc.). How do I know which is which?
  10. It's time for... ...wait for it...
  11. I'm thinking that that might be a better idea than randomly clicking. It also might not take as long. Yeah, there are lots of options. Lugging around a small (cheap, in case it gets busted) LCD wouldn't be so bad, neither.

  13. This from someone who has "????????????" in their sig and "]{42u24" in their profile?
  14. Or I could just randomly click and type things and move my mouse around until I got music.
  15. Dang, hadn't thought of that. Most people have monitors, though, don't they? As well as keyboards and mice. Although, I could become a gargoyle:
  16. That's about half right.
  17. Welcome to yesterday (Alright, it was more like 5 hours ago. Still.)
  18. Yeah, the McIntosh was just an example, I have no intention of getting it. But basically, any of the higher-end self-ripping standalone media players. Perhaps an Olive Opus or Symphony would've been a better example -- basically, a player I could bring that already had some subset of my library. And that's a good point about meets -- nowadays, I could easily fit 48 or however many CD's onto the hard-drive space. So the externals would stay at home.
  19. So...I've been thinking. I need to stop dragging all my CD's around with me everywhere. Especially to meets, and to friends' places, when I need a very specific subset of my CD's -- the ones with which I'm most familiar and like. My "test" CD's. So what's the best recourse? I'm thinking: laptop->DAC, perhaps external hard drive->laptop->dac. I was thinking about something like a hard-drive-based digital media player (basically, an external hard drive with a play button): ...or perhaps even: (Obviously, there are more entry-level-priced equivalents.) But I haven't heard anything really about the hard-drive based ones, anyone heard any of these that they could recommend? Or do you think laptop + DAC + external hard drive would be the way to go?

  22. Alternatively, is it possible that our personal like or dislike of a particular MOT is shaded by our selfsame opinions of his product, and the way he handles criticism, and perhaps business?
  23. I laughed.
