  1. Pretty!
  2. (dun-dun-dun)
  3. Yeah, and you're not alone. But it's a preference thing, not unlistenable. If you're at a party and have no control over the airwaves...it'll do.
  4. Don't confuse compression for brickwall compression. Especially with rock and roll. I mean, Vapour Trails was horrible. HORRIBLE. There was brickwall compression before it even reached final mixdown (yo dawg...). They just didn't know what they were doing. Snakes and Arrows was much better, despite its poor showing in the DR database. At least it was listenable. If you want a textbook example of why brickwall compression is bad, and regular compression is not as bad, listen to those two albums critically back-to-back. I should mention that it depends entirely on the style of music. Mark Knopfler/Dire Straits is sweet sweet music, and shouldn't be compressed all to hell, even non-brickwall. One would want those dynamics to sing through.
  5. The future is now.
  6. I don't have a problem with the government knowing what I have...except when they try and take it. So I have mixed feelings on that subject. In principal, I am not against any gun registration, and I didn't realize there was any kind of differentiation between used and new -- I don't have any problem with them being the same. I also don't have a problem with stricter requirements for higher power guns. I.E. I live in Woodbridge, I should get a shotgun. And a back holster. And learn how to reload quickly, and under duress. Dan lives in the sticks, he should get a bear-stopper. My sister, when she lived in Alaska, needed the appropriate type of defense against mooses. And by that I don't mean a spray. And in principal, I understand the household extension...except then you have to start worrying about everyone who can break into my apartment. Should everyone who can access my apartment get a background check? What about burglars, should I be declined access just because I could get burgled, hence my weapon could end up in the wrong hands?
  7. Awesome, there's a whole DVD of that. Also: lollers at the company I keep.
  8. Ban eagles!
  9. It's nice to have alternatives, but I'll stick with mah Infinite Dark. Thanks for doing that, Todd.
  10. That's very noble of you, but what you should be saying is that if the need to further limit everyone's rights will ensure the safety of children you'd be happy to do so, but you have to realize that not everyone feels the same way. Another facet to the problem is the assumption that it will help. What if it doesn't? Sorry, as long as we have drug cartels right across our border, I have a hard time believing it necessarily will, but I've got no problem with them forming a study to make that determination. Even so, I will be just as sad every time I hear about someone getting caught in the crossfire of a gone postal incident, act of terrorism, home invasion, armed robbery, etc., I think it's more tragic when someone could have defended themselves and were prevented from doing so by you lot. And lastly, I realized overnight that part of my problem in discussing this with you all is the company the gun control proponents keep. Namely, other gun control proponents. They seem just as emotional and presumptuous as the new ones are. So I'll try to keep my cranky manopausal comments to a minimum.
  11. I just want to point out that I do not disagree with this. If I've been stressing the "let's not over-react" part, that is a mistake in my communication. I've got no problem with addressing them, which starts with exactly this discussion.
  12. The only one that looks brickwalled is the 2000 JVC XRCD. Am I wrong?
  13. No, this is exactly what I was talking about -- acting for the sake of acting, because we're emotional. I disagree with exactly that concept. Whatever we do, it needs to be thought out and reviewed and unemotional. If we change laws for the sake of changing laws to "try something", as a reactionary measure, that's exactly the sort of emotional law-passing that I am against. Not just not feel the same, against. Go ahead, call me cold, if that helps.
  14. I don't know. Do I look like I have all the answers? I don't -- that's one reason I don't have kids. Because I know that being a teenager is hard, feeling suicidal/homicidal hard sometimes, and I'm sure I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between being actually suicidal or homicidal, and just being a teenager nobodyunderstandsmeshutupIhateyou hard.
  15. I am for the most part in agreement with you as well. But I'm not sure about this -- I heard just yesterday that this particular school had very very good security. Short of having trained armed guards, there was no stopping him -- he basically shot his way in. They had visitor registration and locks and monitors monitoring people on their way in in all cases with no exceptions. There was no "back way in", and he didn't take it. I also found out something else, but not sure of the accuracy of this -- it seems his first murder was his mother, who had many more guns. He then used those, as well as his legally obtained ones. So the moral of that story, to me is, if you're going to own a gun, be responsible about it. Act like you own a lethal weapon and keep it secure. And teach the proper respect to your offspring, don't use them as a crutch, or as a rage-y last resort option, then your children will learn similarly.
  16. "decent" -- what's indecent about them? Brothers in Arms was considered the standard by audiophiles for a long time.
  17. "Dear Erick, Look, I understand that this is what you do -- you get people to contribute, while keeping your costs down. And I can see why from our exchange how it is that you're very good at what you do. But you have to realize that this is what I do. There is a lot involved -- I have to plan when in the year to start growing my beard out, and when to start bleaching it in such a way that it will still grow out the next year, for example. And I have been doing this for years. I have become very good at what I do. There are a very few events that I will do at cost, and fewer yet that I will do for free. And even in many of the cases where I choose to do it for free, I am still offered compensation which I refuse (for my own personal reasons), or I am implicitly offered an exchange of goods or services which is always appreciated. Which of these and for why is none of anyone else's business but mine. But I will mention that they are very few and for very personal reasons. For future reference, it is only polite to offer to pay costs. I realize your event may have started small -- more like a pot luck party where there is no hired help, everyone contributes in some way or another, but it has gotten big enough that it should be managed like a business. And once it got to that point, you need to separate your contributors from the hired help. You wouldn't ask the caterers to bring the food for free, would you? Such as it is with me. And a little advance notice is also in line with running this professionally as a charity. Even then, don't expect anyone else to do this at cost on an annual basis. If you want to elevate this to the next level, then please learn to manage your costs. Sincerely, Wayne aka the Santa Claus" Erick == Entitled RICh Kid. Wayne == keep things personal the Santa Claus == remind him this is your profession
  18. I told this to someone at work today, and they corrected me -- apparently the correct word is man-o-pausal.
  19. Rich people stay rich by not spending money.
  20. Current image under Emerson, Lake & Palmer (Deluxe Edtion) -- yes, I am one of those people that complained, that previously, it was the image for the Tarkus album, rather than the first, self-titled album: There's also some verbage about Amazon stopping selling the item because of me. But at this point, at least they are trying to fix it -- the last time they responded to me with "no, it's not a problem, we are ignoring you". All while fucking with me humorously.
  21. Yeah, the Vic Firth ones -- the one in the upper right is the one I think my ex-housemate had that I used all the time. I need to get myself my own, right now I only have the disposable kind pre-filled with peppercorns. And those woodwork ones are gorgeous -- do love the grain on those -- is that, grain, or inlays? Either way, dayum. And yes, that last one is particularly phallic. It could almost double as a ritualistic fertility object. I know this is weird, but: want. Was pepper-passion.com the site? If not, it's its competitor. EDIT: Found it was, indeed, pepper-passion.com.
  22. I like the dildo-looking ones. Also, wasn't there a pepper site that someone posted...I can't seem to find it now...I think the proprietor even followed the links back to us at one point...
  23. This -- don't feel bad, he'll make out fine.
  24. I edited the "statistics nerd" quote for accuracy. Because I am a pedant.
