(makes a note of it)

If you're familiar with music production, and are a fan of Alan Parsons, the Dark Side of the Moon one is fun. If for no other reason than to hear what something simple like flanging does to the girly vocals, and to hear some of the tracks soloed (like the aforementioned flanged girly vocals). Or Rick Wright's take on chord voicing in Breathe. The Aja one is good too, just for the rejected guitar solos in Peg.

Pornopop, ...and the Slow Songs about the Dead Calm in Your Arms -- post rock along the lines of Sigur Ros, except lyrics are in English rather than madeupese.
-
Finished both of those (the Alastair Reynolds was Revelation Space -- reading them entirely out of order, previously read Century Rain, House of Suns, The Prefect, and Pushing Ice). Started Redemption Ark and Fool Moon.

Played with Batou...who's probably being renamed. Possibly Seamus. Person caring for him doesn't like "Batou", says he "looks scary", not "cute". So she came up with "Shamu", because curled up, he kinda looked like a killer whale. So I said, "so 'Batou' is not cute enough, but 'Shamu' -- a KILLER WHALE -- is okay?" She looked adequately sheepish, and said that Seamus might be okay.

Banh Mi sandwiches (two halves -- I'll have the other two halves tomorrow morning for breakfast) from Pho Nom Nom (best. restaurant. name. evar...well, no, that would be Pho King, but Pho Nom Nom comes in second.).

Hey, don't laugh -- I have one of those A/C units. Had it for work -- they'd turn the A/C off in the building after 6 or so, which these days is before sunset, and with two or three computers running, it got hot in there quickly. Just vented it out into the hallway, since up until recently (October-ish), there hasn't been anyone else around.

Bobby. Look at that smile. This is him at his happiest, in "his chair", with his head resting against mah knee (slightly out of frame).

Okay, I need to get this T-shirt: "Easter is cancelled -- they found the body".

In the car, Electronic Saviors 2: Recurrence -- a benefit album of various artists against cancer (cancer survival support group &c.) by industrial artists. 6 CD's! Disk 4 is particularly good.

Oh, I thought you said "live". That's her next studio album, innit? (Of which I am aware and am greatly anticipating.) </pedantry>

FFFUUU...! Probably the single album I've introduced the most people to that is still near and dear to their hearts -- Snakefarm, Songs from My Funeral -- well apparently, they have another album. As soon as I leave turntable, I'm a puttin' it on on Spotify.

Wait, what?

Yes it would, I'd like to see that, too. And for some reason, that one above pic cracked me up -- it's like taking your date (in her BCD) to a hoedown, with the black on stark white and the barn door in the background.

BTW, Bobby has grown to a full 16 pounds! So he didn't stay a runt, not at all. And he's very affectionate. I bought him an enormous cat tree, and he spends 90% of the time that I'm around in the chair right next to me. He seems much happier if he has one paw on me. <3 This, on the other hand, is Batou -- he's got crud on his face mostly because of a misunderstanding, but now he smells of vanilla/condensed milk and isn't blind, so all's well.

Hey, non-Facebook readers -- can you see this image? Please let me know if not, and I will rehost.

I've only listened to it once so far, but...the real pretty one. Happy? Lock Howl? The first track is killer, probably an excellent "single". I was probably oversold on it -- I was told it was akin to Talk Talk's Spirit of Eden which it's not. So now that I'm over that, will give it another chance. Me, now: Orcas -- now this is post-rock. Very patient, with a shoegazer-esque pace, but without all the effects. Very strong on atmosphere -- now this is akin to Spirit of Eden.

Storm Corrosion

Yeah, that was outstanding, read it a few months ago. Been on an Alastair Reynolds kick lately, he's been totally on the mark with me. I think his strength is his description of the epic chases -- things that would totally not translate to film (I'm looking at you, Star Trek: The Movie), his pacing in the books is perfect. Also just started the Dresden Files. Hey, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean an invisible demon isn't about to eat your face.

Mongrels -- most hilarious show since Archer. I know of no other show that has a paean to not quite underage love ("What a Difference a Day Makes"). Lots of gruesome death, political incorrectness, references to contemporary culture, and slap-downs. Show got cancelled, but you can watch the entire series on Hulu. Season 2, episode 2 is the best one, and I don't think you need to watch them in order, but you might as well. Makes me laugh. Also Community (just finishing season), Castle (finished season), and Ringer (a little lost on that one). Waiting for season 3 of Archer from a friend. Need to catch up on Homeland and Game of Thrones (haven't started either one -- well, just the pilot of Homeland).

If you had to downgrade your entire rig to $500 ...
Dusty Chalk replied to jinp6301's topic in Miscellaneous
I'd probably go with a $400 Sony Vaio laptop and a pair of MDR-7506/-V6's. I've been listening to this combination quite a bit lately, and there's a nice bit of synergy between the Sony'ses.
