What is your current project, or what will be your next project?
Nah I hadn't shoveled the deck in over a week, no time. Took a few pics for boomana since she's been nostalgic for snow.

Just finished shoveling ~2' of snow off the deck, took about 2hrs. This is vacation?

MPX3 Preamp Use
Thanks guys, I'll see what the seller included as well as what 6SN7s I have kicking around. The EH combo was definitely not worth trying again. And it's also been clarified that I'm a church mouse when it comes to my listening levels. Last night I spot checked levels and my average was around 65db on the first click of the stepper, the next two steps each raised the level 5 to 6db with each step, which made things a bit too loud for my ears. What can I say, I live in the country with almost no ambient noise and I like my hearing.

MPX3 Preamp Use
So I moved the MPX3 back into my main rig tonight and did some shuffling of components so that I can use it to do a little relative comparing of my two primary sources. Made a somewhat troubling discovery, with the MPX3 being fed by my DAC I'm on the first click of the stepper and it's plenty loud with my HD650s. Two steps was too much. Granted, I listen softer than the average person but having no adjustability is a little scary. Any alternate tube suggestions that Mike might try? I'm guessing he might want to investigate them.

Nah, I'm just messing with you. Nugget Audio prides itself on fairly accurate, somewhat reasonable turn-around times.

MPX3 Preamp Use
Quite frankly, I'm enjoying the amp too much to take it apart. Been working from home at night and it's been good company. :tease:

I thought you wanted the full SinglePower experience? And you think I'm not a tall, skinny scary white dude?

MPX3 Preamp Use
I figured it was some kind of threat of what would happen if I showed up at CanJam without the amp...

Thanks guys, not sure why the seller included them. And the MPX3 is quite nice with metal.

MPX3 Preamp Use
It did indeed drive the HF-1s well, until the bowl pads raped my ears into submission after about 2hrs. Had to switch back to the all night comfort of the Senns and it's still sounding good. This weekend I'll roll some of the other 6SN7's that came with it into the driver position. I wonder if Mike knows how many tubes came with it? Speaking of tubes that came with it, there are some random 6CG7's in the box, will these work with the adapters?

MPX3 Preamp Use
Why would I do this? My goal is to add preamp functionality to the amp, and an active preamp at that. So my plan is to take the output from the switched headphone jack and wire it to a third pair of RCAs on the back. I'm told this is exactly what Mikhail would do.

What is going on? Is this the week when everyone's shit breaks around here?

MPX3 Preamp Use
I rather enjoyed the combo I was using last night. [1] Sylvania 6SN7WGT + [2] JAN Philips 5687WB's Haven't had a chance to roll much yet but I can say that I didn't really care for the first combo that I tried with was [3] EH 6SN7's w/a gold-pin EH in the input position. Pretty fuzzy, unfocused sound. I'm going to have some fun with Grados tonight probably and see how the MPX3 does driving low-ohm loads.

More snow. Got about 2" last night and the forecast is for an additional 4 to 6" today.

New DAC for under $400
I don't see how it could be done for $200, no way, no how. The bare modules cost $175 from TPA, add a trafo and you're now at $197 + shipping. And that's with no connectors, no wire, no chassis, etc. So I'd estimate that you're looking at ~$300 for just the parts for a SPDIF only Opus, probably more. If you want USB add another $75 in parts, same thing for the Ballsie. $200 is impossible.

I'm wondering if he's just used to Head-Fi where outgoing messages are automatically saved whereas here you have to click the checkbox at the bottom of each message if you want a copy saved in your outbox. I forget to do that all the time and end up kicking myself later. - email pm notify
