ironically, my hario skerton seems to do worse with coarse grind for french press than it does with medium/medium-fine grind for aeropress. the wider the gap for the burrs, the more variance it seems in the grounds. hoping the lido 3 alleviates this (reviews online suggest that is the case).

^yessir. what carafe do you use? was thinking maybe this 600ml hario as the matching kalita carafe is 500ml and might be better to have a slightly larger volume. (this is assuming carafes are interchangeable)

added a proper scale (jennings cj-4000). needed to have precise measuring on my bean-to-water ratio (starting with 1:16 after bypassing and will play around with that). i now have everything i would need to do pour over except for that actual pour over device, something i said i wouldn't go off the deep end for... i'll give it a couple months before i end up with a kalita wave or hario v60. more interested in kalita, seems a bit easier to use and more consistent.

thanks for this link, Rob. i noticed that inverted method produces a smaller volume and a more concentrated pour so i tried bypassing this morning with a few different volumes and that worked quite well. balances out the pour.

finally got around to grabbing an aeropress this weekend. used three times with three different test runs (Old Bisbee Kenya AA beans) including one inverted pour and it's just a killer cup each time. it will be quite a while before i french press again.

went for the extra 8th egg and slightly increased the amounts of everything... netted exactly a half gallon. should be far more manageable this season. Old Grand Dad should add some spice with slightly elevated rye in the mashbill.

i skipped a nog batch last year and really need to get cracking if i'm going to have anything this year... i'm thinking a half batch with 7 yolks and half the amount of booze. also need to do both brandy and rum this time, i skipped on rum last batch and felt like it was missing some depth. ~5 weeks is a bit short on mellowing it out but would be good enough.

truly ridiculous end to 2019. very happy for toronto. had some plans around 7 last night so had to play catch-up on DVR... and very glad i didn't watch live. blues started hot for first 2 minutes, then bruins absolutely took over on possession for virtually the rest of the period. fucking binnington stood on his head and i said to myself at some point "it feels like blues are going to steal a goal here." 10 seconds later they get the deflection through rask. i basically fast-forwarded through the entire second period and bulk of the third because bruins were so obviously-deflated and flat. what irritates me most about these playoffs in general can point directly to the blues' path. first three rounds - i'll give them all the credit. had a ton to fight through, incredibly resilient. then this fucking final series... the league flat-out enabled/allowed berube's comments about officiating to completely change the tone of calling. then game 5... i'm not blaming the refs directly, but i think the league unfortunately bears some level of credit for how this series went. i don't think it would have went seven games... but i'm also not sure that bruins would've won under those other circumstances. very conflicted. feel good for ryan o'reilly. was happy to hear he got the smythe. maybe the only guy on blues that i actually like. feel horrible for rask. @skullguise why does boston hate him so much? hawks will trade you a fucked-up corey crawford 1:1 for him. anyway, there's only one thing we should all remember about 2019...
