He lowered his price by $300. It is done.

Happy Birthday!

The C24 rims are much lighter than the Fulcrum ones, but they have heavier hub/spokes. No one has had any issues with the C24s other than wearing out the breaking surface. They are almost 30% cheaper and that's what mostly I was talking about. My buddy's Fulcrums had Evo Corsas and they just felt heavy and high inertia and the ceramic bearings felt grabby compared to both the Mavics R-SYS (and other Mavics) and the Mad Fibers. They did not have C24s in stock just some of the ultegra ones and I didn't take them off the bike but I liked the visible carbon too.

Yeah I think I am going to take him up on it. He's matching the Competitive Cyclist price before they sold out which is pretty great. I just have to get tubes and gp4000s tires too.
-
I looked at my buddy's (shop manager) Fulcrums today and they don't seem worth it to me. Instead he is trying to sell me blacked out Mad Fiber clinchers for a clearance price with the assurance that I get full purchase price towards a set of Mavics or something else if I break them within a year. I am so fricking annoyed with myself for not just jumping on the V1 clinchers that were up on Paceline. I emailed about an hour too late.
-
Fulcrums would be around $300 more for me. In the grand scheme of things for wheels I'm putting on a bike as expensive as the Calfee it's a feather in the wind but it does give me pause.
-
Yeah apparently it doesn't last more than 200 miles though so not really worth considering when purchasing. The R-SYS SLR's were bloody gorgeous and light but they weigh like 100 grams less and cost $850 more (at my pricing) and are way less aero than the C24s. No pricing yet on the Fulcrums but I expect $150 more than the C24s. I'm probably going to go the Fulcrum route as they look prettier and aren't labelled Shimano on my SRAM bike. Either of them are about 300 grams lighter than my 2009 Zipp 404 clydesdale clinchers.

Thanks Ben. My shop gave me a price towards the price from Wiggle but not quite there. If I go that route I'll just get it from them. Here's another option (I think it looks really sexy): http://www.zencyclery.com/road/siddartha-custom-wheelset.html Everyone on Paceline Forum pushes handbuilt like crazy. My issue is that being at the upper end of the usual weight range at 185 and 6'5" I don't think I can do the low spoke counts on some of these designs. With the Shimano/Fulcrum options there are given weight limits and I know what I'm getting. Really it's looking like it's down to preference as anything in the price range is going to ride well, be pretty lignt and look pretty good.

Was thinking Mavic but now deciding between Shimano Dura Ace C24 (which seemed like sacrilege on a SRAM bike) and Fulcrum Racing Zeros. They are both much more aero than the Mavic and about as light.

Awesome Dan!

Sale pending to a teammate.

Easy way to drop a lb off the bike

Go for them Justin
-
I think he's 11 speed.

The Mad Fibers are for sale $900 obo with GP4000s tubulars mounted (worth about $250 for the pair) and the Mad Fiber two wheel bag. Shimano/SRAM 9/10 speed hubs. These are incredibly light at 1080 grams for the wheels plus some of the lightest (and Tour Magazine Tested best) tubulars mounted.

Microsoft Surface Pro WTF
Dreadhead replied to shellylh's topic in GoRedwings19's Computer Help Hotline
I still love it but I am looking forward to the firmware update fix in a few days because I'm tired of having to hibernate. I'm glad I got it and I would do it again. After some further reading it appears that Intel probably cut them a better deal so they went with a higher processor and kept the price the same for future purchasers, sucks for me a bit but when I bought it I knew what I was getting. This happens all the time in consumer electronics. -
Microsoft Surface Pro WTF

Well that's a bit of an FU to everyone who bought this device less than 2 months ago: http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/microsoft-upgrades-surface-pro-2-cpu-without-fanfare/ -
Yes you can.

That's an awesome improvement! I'm sitting in the 265-275 range these days I would guess (I've been at 300 in the past), I've really gotten out of practice on suffering properly. I used to sit at my FTP for an hour no problem and just suck it up.
-
Yup that's the same thing. I went with PerPRO + Computrainer but same difference. What's your current FTP? Which test did you do? I haven't done a FTP test in years now. I should but I just look at the IF of recent rides and if it's greater than 1 for longer rides then I know to bump it up. If I get the Mavics (more likely when) they are going to replace the Mad Fiber tubulars on the calfee. I may even sell the Mad Fibers though I don't expect to get a lot of money for them because they've slightly damaged (even after being blessed as fully functional by the manufacturer). I really regret not spending the money to get a brand new rear wheel when they offered a replacement with the latest wheel that was 11 speed for $400. Now I'm SOL. They may just be below the threshold where it's worth selling them to me. Thinking about it honestly though I'd race my cheap aero tubulars or the Zipps before I race the MFs and if I'm going to do the fondos on the Mavics what's the point of having them sit around. I'm also in the process of buying a new front fork for the Calfee as there was a lawyer tab missing when I got the bike from Calfee and in my rush to get my new toy instead of raising a stink I just filed down the other side. Now a year later I start reading horror stories about utralight skewers opening up and causing very bad days so now I want the tabs. Now 14 months later no one is giving me anything for free, I am going to get a discount but it's not clear what that will be as yet.

I grew up there and my entire immediate family lives there. The bike stays with them Ben: Welcome to the Sufferfest. You have a power meter right? You should get PerfPro and a ANT+ stick and really step up your game with it giving you power ranges to meet etc. I'm currently having unhealthy (for my wallet) thoughts about the Mavic R-SYS SLR clinchers for all the climbing that I'm going to do over the summer. The blacked out breaking surface also looks downright sexy.
-
We'll get a nice warm up in when we go to SC. The climb up Cesars head is 5% for 11 km . I had not heard of the Tour of Sufferlandia. I may need to see if Meaghan will allow me to do it (I have all the videos). Doesn't seem too bad but that's a lot of time.

In the spirit of last year's thread I decided to see what everyone else is thinking for the year My major goals are the following two Gran Fondos: Diabolical Double (16k+ ft, 125 miles): http://www.winthefight.org/granfondo/diabolical_double.htm The Alpine Loop Gran Fondo (11.5k+ ft, 107 miles): http://alpineloopgranfondo.com/ Plus I think I will probably do the Tour de Cure in Northern VA (6/1/14) with Jeff. I'm also loooking at: MS Ride The Riverside (6/7/14-6/8/14) Airforce Classic (6/8/14): http://cyclingclassic.org/ Total 200 Double Century (6/14/14): http://www.total200.com/ Edit: It's not a "goal" really but I'll probably do a few 5k races with my wife and maybe a sprint tri for the heck of it.

Piling on: That's awesome!
