  1. Thanks. I already put Nate on notice. Nice phono pre. Sorry for partially hijacking your thread.
  2. $1650 used. Probably very good but more than I want to spend at the moment. Clearaudio makes a balanced phono pre. The PS Audio has a volume control so I could go with that and have my vinyl rig balanced and my digital rig SE until I get a preamp that has balanced capability.
  3. Cool, I will need to see what I can find in a reasonably priced balanced phono pre and preamp. I know PS Audio has a balanced phono pre for $1000 new, probably $600 or so used. I would have to commission my cable builder to build me some balanced cables. The cost may require me to wait a bit before taking the plunge. Thanks.

If any of you have a way I an get a hold of 4.5, let me know.

I've checked Netflix and the dvds for 4.5 are not out until late July. Is season 4.5 airing now?
  6. Thanks for the input. Would using a balanced phono pre (next to tt) with balanced cables to a preamp then balanced to the amp be a way to do this without being too concerned with the cable length (as Pars mentioned)? My amp is balanced. I've considered picking up a balanced preamp and phono pre.
  7. What would you suggest as the maximum length for an rca from tt to phono pre? I was thinking of moving my tt to a position on the side of the room, probably requiring a phono cable abotu 7 or 8' long. I've seen a number of setups in larger rooms than mine with the tt off to the side closer to where you would sit when listening. Would a better option be to move the phono pre with the tt to the side and then run ic's to the preamp? Curious as to what your thoughts are.
  8. It would have been nice to have for the weekend. I should drive up there Friday and pick mine up. It's a little more than 3 hours each way.
  9. I have Marks amp you can use, maybe it will work with those speakers. I've only posted this on HC so Miguel will never see it. I don't expect Gene, Raffy or Matt to make it but it would be great if they did.
  10. I'm pretty sure mine are going to be done next week but it was second hand. They've had my impressions since Jerry took them from CJ. My order is in with the artwork. If I'm right and they can ship my next Thursday, I will have them end of next week.
  11. So far: Alex Carl CJ Dom (I'm sure he will show up to see dear old dad) Vicki (Evening)
  12. I think it's pretty clear to everyone that I have no idea.
  13. Yes. I'm done.
  14. Wayne, I hope to get the Smyth SVS but it won't be until the end of the year. If it turns out to be only some locals, we can just do a mini meet, later afternoon into the evening so Vicki can make it. I'm still not 100% on doing it and may end up going out of town myself.
  15. How come you don't put plastic jewels on your cables and use white shoe laces to cover them? You could sell them for big bucks.
  16. Sorry Nate. I deleted your post and a bunch others. As ugly as those cables are, it wasn't fair to vcoheda, who for better or worse, spent time on his impressions. I should have put a stop to it earlier but sometimes I forget I'm a mod.
  17. vcoheda reported my post.
  18. Why do I even bother. vcoheda thought I was really going to delete his posts.
  19. I'm a live and let live kind of guy but anyone that buys those cables deserves whatever abuse that comes their way.
  20. I didn't notice them when I looked before. $1,400? Is he f'ing nuts.
  21. My daughters bike at school was stolen and it had a U-Lock. Fortunately, it was found a week later.
  22. I have a 640P modded by Andy Bartha. The mods done are as follows: Four op amps replaced with National LM 4562 op amps Coupling caps (.01 UF) replaced with larger bypass caps (.22 UP Polyprop) All power supply caps replaced with Nichicon caps and by passed with .01 UF Wilma MKP caps. Power supply diodes replaced with low noise Schottky type 100v diodes and by passed with .01 UF Wilma MKP caps. High frequency bypass caps on the op amps, which were ceramic disk type are replaced with silver mica caps. I haven't compared to a stock 640P but can say that it is close if not on par with the ASR Mini Basis I used to have.
  23. Just work your way up slowly and in no time, 6 miles will be a breeze. I remember getting on a bike a number of years ago for the first time in many years and I was surprised by how hard it was. Within the year I was doing regular 20 to 30 mile rides on the weekend.
  24. My wife and daughter will be out of town the weekend of 7/17 - 7/19. I am considering a small meet at the house, sort of like Gene has done. I have bedrooms with beds, one with a air mattress and 3 sleepable couches. I am not sure whether about this but if the interest is there, I might consider it. I have a trial about 10 days later so it may depend on how intense the preparation is for it. I would like to limit the meet to about 10 including room for about 6 in the house. Not expecting any out of towners with CJ just passed and DanJam coming up. You are all welcome but I understand if the usuals are unable to make it.
