I don't know if this has been mentioned on HF but the case Jerry is using is the one he uses for his aviation side of the business. As a result of going to CJ, he got many more orders than he expected and ramped up production before he could get the cases that he wants to use for the audio line. The case is not an issue for me as my JH-13's will never go back in the case. I would not carry mine around in a hard case like that even at 1/3 the size. I sent my pair back to have the artwork redone and the second time around they came out better. I had them within about about 4 days of shipping. It helps to be located about 3 1/2 hours from JH Audio. He may have tweaked the fit as well because the go in and out easier than they originally did and are more comfortable. They weren't bad originally but there was a bit of pain if I pushed them the wrong way, something I thought would go away as my ears adjusted. The seal is excellent. It doesn't completely cut out all sound but I didn't expect they would. The sq is pretty amazing, even directly out of my iphone. I could not be happier with my pair.

It does have SE inputs. It is primarily a DAC but if they give it preamp functionality, balanced out and SE inputs, why not a set of balanced inputs. Plus no pass through. It was worth a try. I really need two sets of balanced inputs, one for my phono and one for digital.

No one, including Native Americans, were harmed by the making of this thread. We both survived, DAC/Preamp in place. I haven't listened much yet but the unit is a fail for me. It has balanced outs but no balanced input which I would use for a balanced phono pre. It also does not have a pass through so I can't run an rca to my headphone amp. I will try to get some listening in this weekend.

You only need a preamp if you have a separate amp. You can also use an integrated amp without a preamp. You will be able to listen to my speakers all you want.
