  1. That's the only internal pic I've got, sorry. Hopefully there are enough pics to work from though, for the people able to help out with your amp.
  2. The only good movie with Jennifer Aniston is this one:
  3. Ok another question: SR-404 or 4070? And if the SR-404, Signature or Limited? I've decided I'm going to pass up the SR-Omega/SRM-T1W deal in favor of something cheaper. I'm primarily looking for a sonic alternative to OII MKI and SR-X MKIII. It'd be nice to get something about as "bright" as the SR-X MKIII but with a different spin, if possible.
  4. I wrote this post on 6/9: And I now retract it. My own ears are unreliable and no one should use them as a basis for any kind of advice. My last moments with the HD800 vs the Qualia over the weekend (and the days before) led me to change my opinion. Because of the unreliability of my ears, I will not say anything further about the SQ differences between the two headphones, and it would probably be best for anyone deciding between the two to hear them for himself (or herself as the case might be). In fact, going forward I will not be commenting on any kind of SQ impressions of any equipment period. All I will say about the HD800 is that I personally became very dissatisfied with it, but that shouldn't mean anything for anyone else.
  5. ^ I liked the streaming samples of Keren Ann so much that I just completed my upcoming collection. So much new music this month! (and I'm contemplating even more CDs from BMG now just because their closing sale is $6.99 w/ free shipping....) (The below aren't from BMG.) (Redbook CDs) Katie Melua - Pictures Katie Melua - Piece By Piece Keren Ann - Not Going Anywhere Natalie Walker - With You (alt/pop) Radiohead - In Rainbows The Kin - Rise And Fall (alt/pop) The Black Dog - Spanners (electronica) Trans Am - Surveillance (indie rock)
  6. Redbook CDs - from Concord Music (jazz) Chick Corea & Gary Burton - The New Crystal Silence Jane Monheit - Surrender Tierney Sutton - Dancing In The Dark - and since BMGMusic is closing up on the 23rd I grabbed a big stash the other day: Alison Balsom - Haydn & Hummel Trumpet Concertos Claudio Abbado - Mahler Symphony No 7 Hilary Hahn - Schoenberg, Sibelius - Violin Concertos Jeannie Kendall - Jeannie Kendall (bluegrass) Julie London - All Through The Night Keren Ann - Keren Ann (folk) Keren Ann - Nolita (folk) Oliver Nelson - The Blues And The Abstract Truth Rhonda Vincent - All American Bluegrass Girl Rhonda Vincent - Good Thing Going Rhonda Vincent - Ragin' Live Shelby Lynne - Suit Yourself Simon Rattle - Holst: The Planets eMusic Downloads (all electronica) A Produce - A Smooth Surface (Special Edition) Atrium Carceri - Kapnobatai Grouper - Dragging A Dead Deer Up A Hill James Bernard - Atmospherics James Plotkin / Mick Harris - Collapse Mystified - Elemental Spirits Mystified - The Hand of Jayanti Reporter - Kaleidoscopic Up, Bustle & Out - One Colour Just Reflects Another
  7. Done! But what do you need two for?
  8. ^ I'm interested in only the SR-Omega. The SRM-T1W would be quickly put up for sale.
  9. SRM-T1W. I'm eyeing the one in this ad: AudiogoN ForSale: Stax sr-omega&srm t1w
  10. Anyone know how easy it is to convert a 100V SRM amp to 115V? I already have a step-down transformer but ideally would like to plug straight into the wall.
  11. Groove Armada - Goodbye Country (Hello Nightclub)

    eMusic mess

I'm with you on that. I haven't been with eMusic that long (joined in August '07) but at the time the plan was 40 downloads per month for however much that cost (and which I still have) and with the new plan being less cost-effective I might as well just continue to buy more Redbook CDs instead of piling on even more 192-256K MP3s. The only reason I use eMusic is to horde lots of electronica (which they have a lot of) for computer and DAP listening which I don't do much of.
  13. OMG, YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. A CD player with digital outputs, AD1955 as DAC, and balanced output, for a mere $400? It even has dual RCA analog outputs like most Arcam CDPs! I'm getting one too!
  14. Thanks, a lot of CDs that could be really interesting. My wallet has room for about....oh, let's just say a few handfuls of CDs there. I always make room for new music! Looks like I'll be spending a lot of time checking out the free streaming samples... Btw this thread should be in the Music forum, only caught this since I usually skim the Latest Posts section at the bottom of the index page.
  15. Count me in as a definite now. Found a <$300 flight - not the most ideal flight times but they'll do. My still-in-SoCal BHSE will most likely be making an appearance too, thanks 909 and JP. The BHSE will remain in Cali for most of the summer (SoCal until July, NorCal afterwards) so even more people can continue to check it out in more ideal mini-meet conditions.
  16. You know what, Sony claimed the same thing about the Qualia 010 which sold at $2.6K when it came out. And the Qualia's frame is made of mere easily-breakable plastic and comes with only a one-size headband! I mean what is this tomfoolery?! "No-compromise design" my ass! A flagship headphone should have no design or manufacturing flaws, certainly not one so expensive and one that claims it's state of the art! What is this nonsense? Deal with it.
  17. Still thinking about flying out but not sure yet. And a >$300 flight cost puts a definite damper on it. I thought the airlines were supposed to be decreasing their summer fares...
  18. Finally got my HD800 today, serial #465 from TTVJ. None of the physical defects that have been reported. The sound is closer to the Qualia than I previously thought - while not identical of course, they're awfully similar sounding in more than one way, but primarily in separation between elements and overall clarity. Will have to burn the drivers in but I'm already satisfied with this purchase. I will almost certainly be selling the Qualia at some point in the future. I still mostly prefer the sound of the Qualia though (esp since it has moar treble) but the HD800 doesn't sacrifice too much in that area that I can still tolerate it.

Did you miss the 1saleaday flight case deal that was recently posted? This was the thread: http://www.head-case.org/forums/portable-audio/6232-flight-case.html Since some of us bought more than we need, maybe you can make someone an offer they can't refuse....
  20. A self-correction to my post above: actually the upsampling is not adjustable, I only thought it was. I referred back to the manual and the upsampling can only be either turned on or off. 32KHz, 48kHz, and 96kHz are upsampled to 192kHz; 44.1kHz and 88.2kHz are upsampled to 176.4kHz. Some additional listening tonight has been...interesting. There are a lot of ways I prefer the sound of the Plinius CDP as the source and there have been a few instances where it seemed to be superior too - not many, but those moments made me cackle. Oh the Plinius just sounds so amazing sometimes. The Bryston makes a very good showing though, and I look forward to eventually comparing it with the Ayre QB-9 and another DAC that I may have the opportunity to audition. Works nicely over USB too, though something about it didn't sound quite as good as coaxial does. In any case, I'll be holding off from further comment now until I get a much better amp, which should be happening in the not too distant future.
  21. For those who may have missed it earlier, I bought a BDA-1 right before CanJam and sent it to be displayed there, and it arrived back today. I've started preliminary listening and so far, so good. I'd say it sounds really good based on what I've thrown at it so far and despite my amp seriously holding it back (HeadAmp AE-2). I'm using my Plinius CD-101 as the transport and Blue Jeans 1505F as the digital coaxial cable. The Plinius and Bryston front panels are a nice visual match with each other actually, the aluminum on both has the same brushed finish. I already have two complaints with the Bryston. The output voltage is higher than I'd like (2.3V, compared to the Plinius' 2V) translating to unexpected volume in comparison with my Plinius. It's not so bad with the Qualia but really annoying with the AD2000 since it's so sensitive. Of course this is only an issue as I switch between the two sources. The second complaint is that the analog output RCA jacks are an extremely tight fit with the tips of my BPT IC-SL interconnects - so tight that I have to force them on, and pulling them off requires full hand-holding. No probs with either my Analysis Plus Silver Oval (which I was using at CanJam) or Moon Audio Silver Dragon V2, so I blame the construction of the IC-SL for this issue. Also a minor quibble that the adjustable upsampling can't be adjusted from the front panel.
  22. Great pics Al, sounds like a grand time was had by all on the VanJam tour. My audio gear arrived back from LA today (thanks again Greg) and I discovered that my Parasound AWG12 power cord is missing, can't find it anywhere. If anyone has it or knows where it went, I'd like to recover it. It was plugged into my BHSE and I guess I probably left it in either Catalina C or D. "12 AWG" and "Wan Lung" are printed on it and length is 6 feet. Also someone left a CD in one of my CD cases, it's Songs of Joy & Peace by Yo-Yo Ma & Friends. Whoever owns it can PM me and I'll send it back.

  24. [AK]Zip just announced the V3 for the HD800! Head-Fi: Covering Headphones, Earphones and Portable Audio - View Single Post - APureSound: The Ultimate Cable Manufacturer Introduces The V3 Headphone Cable Anyone gonna bite? Is the stock cable really as inferior he claims? Not that I don't trust him, I'm just curious about others' opinions.
  25. Hrmm, no thanks. And those are nice amps but I prefer the BHSE. Yes it has Pro and Normal output jacks. It's possible to plug a Pro-bias headphone into the Normal bias jack but then it would be under-powered and not sound as good as it would otherwise. In response to your post below, I don't know yet what Normal-bias headphones I'll end up with, but right now I have the SR-X MKIII. To take the amp home with me would've required checking it with my flight which would've added to my time and effort at LAX which I foresaw as a problem well before CanJam - hence, I knew it would've made far more sense to seek out a local Head-Fier to hold it for me instead and ship back afterwards, so that's exactly what I did. As I'm not in a particular hurry to receive it either (I have a few other things to sort out with my HD800 and Bryston BDA-1), it makes sense for blubliss to hold it for a while too, and he was an ideal choice given his reputation and headphone system.
