"I would like to preserve what we have before it gets totally out of control," Murdough, a 30-year-old father of two young boys, said last week. "The more it becomes non-white, the more it's going to become a much different place to live, for white people especially."

...

"I would ask you about your version of racist," Murdough said. "The word does not have a specific definition. If someone says, 'You seem to hate people who aren't white,'

I say no, so I can't really be a racist, because I don't hate them. I just don't want to live around areas that are heavily, predominantly non-white."

You know even though I served in the military and all, I'm just not very American since I'm Asian. :palm:

Wut.

Is that some crappy fansub / computer translation or sommat? I know the R1 DVDs don't have that nonsense.

It's gotta be -- it looks phonetic. Towards the end of season one? I'll have to find that episode (looks like it's just before the battle when Batou gets ambushed at the Major's place) and see what it really says. I'm thinking "pancake" -> "can take..." something.
I have no idea what you guys are talking about, but it unnerves me a bit knowing that you do know.
Oops. Heh-heh.

EDIT: To his defense, he recently watched it. After he said "at the Major's place", it triggered a memory in me as well -- there isn't a lot of scenes at the Major's place.

Vicki I'm in exactly the same boat. Except for the unnerving part, anime/manga, whatever it is holds zero interest for me. I'm a bad nerd I guess.

I don't think it's the episode you're talking about, given the lighting, camera angle, and that he seems to be talking to someone. Wasn't there some scene where she had the image curtains set to look like she was actually at some tropical resort, and she and Batou were discussing something or other?

Yes, you are a bad nerd, I mean even my mom has watched both seasons of Ghost in the Shell.

I can't imagine anyone not crushing on the Major, straight or otherwise. I mean, purple hair, what's not to love?

It's a cartoon right? Am I missing something?

I thought Johnny Quest was drawn well, and I love blondes, but it's a cartoon!

Wait, is it possible to have sex with cartoons now? I don't keep up on the latest technologies that well.

Fitz, I've never even heard of Ghost in the Shell, so I guess you're right.

Let's put it this way, my chances of having sex with a cartoon are about the same as having sex with a live actress, especially once you invoke quantum mechanics (negligably zero == 0).

You're right, that was at night, anyway, IIRC.

I guess I better put "rewatch GitS:SAC" on my to-do list. Is that out on Blu-Ray yet?

A quick look through the DVDs confirms my thoughts, the tropical setting shows up initially in season 2, episode 3 complete with Batou in a hawaiian shirt, and the shot in the picture is from the very end of Solid State Society.

Ghost in the Shell is the kind of anime even non-anime fans have seen or heard of, you should check it out. You've seen the Matrix, right? Not the same setting/story or anything, but it had a lot of influence from GitS.

Not that I've heard of, at least not in the states. That's probably my most wanted anime on Blu-Ray.

I haven't seen SSS yet (!), so no spoilers, but...what's he saying?

Well there you have it, because I hated The Matrix. Not really a SciFi guy either. I really am a bad nerd.

Tried to think of an anime show that you might like Steve, I honestly think that the homo-erotic anime porn in Japan (yaoi) often referred to as 'boys love' is more for women. There are some non ecchi shows that contain gay men that are not effeminate or flamboyant/crossdressing, but they are usually very macho over the top too. On the other hand, not many anime characters are normal at all outside of some school days anime. Theres always straight men though. Japanese male characters with appeal always seem to be extremely tall and skinny with feminine looks. The girls usually seem to have more on their bones even then them. Anime has got to be the closest thing to a romance novel I've gotten myself involved it, cool since I actually enjoy some romantic comedy. I'm going to stop now and leave anything else for the anime thread. I don't think I'm an expert on erotic anime anyway, there is some seriously freaky shit in some of those I understand.

From the R1 DVD subs, I believe it's this line:

Batou: The guy's metaphor of choice was "transistors" to describe the cyberbrains of senior citizens...
