September 23, 201015 yr Author Alright Senn 800 and I didn't get along so my last standing dynamic is the LCD-2... until I break down and try the T1. Have a b22 now and wonder if there are any tube options I can add? Be my tube virgin amp so be gentle
September 24, 201015 yr Alright Senn 800 and I didn't get along so my last standing dynamic is the LCD-2... until I break down and try the T1. Have a b22 now and wonder if there are any tube options I can add? Be my tube virgin amp so be gentle I like the LCD-2 more than the T1, but you should find a headphone meet to give the T1 a try and decide for yourself. For tubes, I think the ZDT and Balancing Act are a good option. I'm pretty happy with my ZDT.
September 24, 201015 yr ... so my last standing dynamic is the LCD-2... until I break down and try the T1. Except that the LCD-2 is not a dynamic headphone. It's a planar headphone.
September 25, 201015 yr well, it's not a dynamic headphone, but an orthodynamic headphone....that's gotta count for something, right?
September 25, 201015 yr Is it an ortho? It's all down to how the traces are lined up so a Yamaha is an ortho but I'm pretty sure the Fostex units aren't.
September 25, 201015 yr It is a matter of semantics. They are both planar magnetic, Yamaha coined the term orthodynamic while Fostex described their drivers as isodynamic (as did wharfedale = the original manufacturer of this headphone technology ) Most Yamaha tend to be center pinned with a circular trace ( as were the PMB ) while fostex has erred on the tauter streched membrane attached on the perimeter to the driver suspension. There are naturally variations from this rule - yamaha YHD1/2 etc ..dB
September 25, 201015 yr My point being that it has no voice coil. Without a voice coil it can't be considered as a dynamic driver. And Don's description between Ortho and Iso is exactly what I have read as well.
September 25, 201015 yr Author Simplify it... Given I have a B22 is there a tube amp I should consider for using with headphones that terminate in 1/4" stereo trs jacks
September 25, 201015 yr Author The guys at Schiit have been really upfront about their products and as such when someone asked if the Val and orthos would play nice he said no. Have been eying a ZDT, WA6SE but really hate seeing opinions with the words full, musical or thick when describing tubes. EC doesn't exactly give it away either
September 26, 201015 yr What about an almarro 2a3. Although, that being said, I'm not exactly sure how the headphone circuit is wired out of the amp.
September 28, 201015 yr I listened to the LCD-2 with my Donald North Audio Sonett at Can Jam. I recall he has a demo unit or a trial or something like that.
October 11, 201015 yr I'm by no means an expert Solude but what about a low impedance design from say Mapletree? The super II can output 500mW into 32ohm and has an output impedance of 1.3
October 12, 201015 yr Author True on all counts. Wife vetoed the tubes though I personally decided to just stand pat with the b22. No complaints, so no reason to move.
October 19, 201015 yr got those two playing through WA22 - senns are balanced, thinking of reterminating the orthos to 4pin XLR for starters nice for both nice is highly measurable and objective audiophile term - try for yourselves
December 9, 201015 yr Bottlehead Crack. Prolly available used somewhere for sure. I heard the LCD2 with a few different tube rigs at a meet in October. Also heard them with a B22. The B22 sounded great, the tubes sublime. Other DIY opions? Bijou!
