  1. No, because the patent process itself would be prior art.

  2. Exactly, but Stretch makes a valid observation which would make for a Trifecta of poseurs calling other poseurs, poseurs. Kind of makes your head spin.

  4. Taking a break from Hi-Res.... Got A Girl - I Love You But I Must Drive Off This Cliff Now Scott Pilgrim's girlfriend sings to a slower hip-hop-like instrumentation plus some extras. Pretty interesting stuff. EDIT: the more I listen, the more I like. Vocals are not so special, more of whispery pop, but she uses the voice well. And the music behind her is pretty cool.

  5. Thank you guys for the encouragement. I left my SD card at home, but I have a few inside shot of the amp. I used good quality components: Alps RK50 pot, Takman REY resistors, Solen FEP Teflon caps in the signal path, WIMA bypass caps, Nichicon Audio caps, Teflon tube sockets. I made PCBs for the 300V power supply and front-end DC heater. Transformers are from Sumr. Chassis are ordered from eBay.

  6. Finally got mine. Listened yesterday at work with Phonon's, and brought in the Senn 600's today, listening now. Fairly impressed....this seems to have a leaner sound than the ifi iDSD I got while waiting for this, but not in any way to detract from overall experience. Adds some nice air compared to iDSD, but not sure which I prefer with things like vocals and piano. Listening to 24/192 Bill Evans Waltz For Debby, it's fairly sublime, nice way to start my day since I'm in earlier than most others. Will compare that to DSD of the same, as well as play some other DSD I have (ELP Brain Salad Surgery, Pink Floyd Wish You Were here, Propaganda Wishful Thinking, and Belafonte At Carnegie Hall). Happy for a minimal-meeting day!! Head down, music on, I might even get some work done..... BTW....I have the Geek 700, not the 450; no issue to drive the Senn's. Does run quite warm, almost hot. Wonder about long-term reliability with things in such a small package.

  7. If they actually go ahead in court, is that like two black holes coming together? Should we be worried about the future of Earth? Maybe a new catch phrase could be something like: Who would Al defend?

  11. It's a great video. People were accusing Ars of promoting Grado, but I think the Grado house and business model are different enough (from overseas factories and multinational conglomerates) to deserve a feature article. Also, it inspired me to research headphones again, for no good reason. I'm already very happy with my current setup (Sony D-EJ2000 + Alessandro MS-1 at work, Arcam FMJ CD36 + Headsave Classic v2 + Grado HP-2 at home). I started a long time ago with stock Panasonic over-the-ear headphones and a portable cassette player, moved into low-buck Koss headphones when the Panasonic broke, and stayed with Sennheiser HD 320 headphones for ten years with a Panasonic SL-S160 portable CD player (still working). After updating myself for a few days on the interwebs of headphone stuff, I'm still glad that I went with the MS-1 for portable/desk use (and grabbed the HP-2 when the opportunity came up). There are a lot of new products on the market, but the classic stuff stays around too (e.g., Sennheiser HD 600, Koss PortaPro, etc.). I have mixed emotions when I think about people who are new to the headphone game – they have a lot more choices, but too much information (and hearsay) are overwhelming. Higher prices on the new flagship products are also discouraging... fortunately, the market is big enough that you can still find value for your dollar. At one point, I found myself reading reviews of Monoprice headphones. That was ludicrous... after you've heard the good stuff (AKG K1000, Grado PS-1, I'm looking at you), it's very hard to go back. It always comes back to a long, careful equipment audition, which is hard to do at headphone meets and audio stores. System synergy is also important – testing a piece on other people's gear, music, and listening environment often leads to a misleading impression.
