  2. Got the HEK in today, spent a few hours with them. Not bad at all. Somewhat unique presentation to my stalwart HD800s -- I feel I get a long more string noise, pedal squeak, valve thunk, etc. Same amount of music, just more of all the little ancillary bits, which surprises me. My main setup has always operated on the "high end thunderdome" principle, whereby you can only keep your favorite, and all comparison only serves the purpose of figuring out what to get rid of. I didn't buy these, and I have to eventually return them to Fang, so it's a treat to be able to listen comfortably in my own rig knowing that I don't have to decide whether I like them better than anything else. They make my ears real hot, though.

  3. Steven Wilson, in his newsletter, included the album Void/Dance amongst his favourites of 2015. Two of my friends who are on said mailing list (why am I not?) immediately thought of me upon hearing it. (all dreamy like) Yeah. https://3six.bandcamp.com/album/void-dance

  4. Galaxy Quest and Dogma were some of my favorite Rickman roles, but the recent CBGB was excellent. RIP Alan.

  7. Thanks guys. It's a nice part of town, right next to the presidents residency. The LNS doesn't care other than the amp is more powerful but it's been a while since I've had a HE60 here and they can be tricky. Perhaps the KGST or KGDT to soften the top end a bit and flesh out the bottom end. I'm just guessing here as I haven't tried the combo.

  8. Fang just sent me a set of HE-1000s to try out. The most powerful amp I have here is the ECP L-2, which according to Nate's measurements puts out about 125mw into the HE-1000s 35 ohm nominal resistance. At 90db sensitive, I should be seeing ~110 peaks, if my math has not deteriorated to the point of unusability. That's not quite the output power I'd prefer into these, but it should be sufficient. To the amp's credit, it is a truly sublime and hearty 125mw. If that's not enough, I'll wire it up to the F5s speaker taps, just to frustrate Marc.

  9. VPI - that catback looks great! I dig what you've done with the XT....looks just mean enough for a quick grocery getter. A fast SUV with big brakes, good handling (adjustable suspension settings), proper trans and motor is hard to beat for a daily if you have a family. Sufficiently raised to deal even with Houston streets. Big bonus. Then a proper car in the garage for vroom vroom. Picked this up to teach my 16 yr old how to drive a stick car properly... HS

  10. LOL...I guess I do. It's been fun. I went from my daily driver being a 2010 Dodge RAM crew cab to the Jeep and the technology is pretty wild relatively speaking. Been a lot of fun. The 8-speed with paddles mated to the 6.4L is good fun on the highway. The launch control...well, that's just good sport but completely unnecessary. 4.4 0-60mph in a pig on all season radials is pure comedy. HS
