  1. Reminds me of http://www.head-case.org/forums/off-topic/7464-dr-bronners-magic-all-one-18-1-hemp-peppermint-pure-castile-soap.html without the actual soap. Hey, their showroom is only 8 miles away.
  2. Fingers crossed... iOS 4.1 release may finally resolve your iPhone 3G woes
  3. If not, what about Airfoil Speakers Touch (though pretty useless on iPad until multitasking appears).

    The Wire

I've got the set and you're welcome to borrow, but between two members here who spoke up first, two outside friends and a co-worker I've talked up so much they've requested and a GF catching up on first two seasons, I suspect they're going to be busy for a while.
  6. For those of us with the ancient models... [url=http://www.woot.com/special.aspx?k=dilettante]Woot
  7. In another everything by The Band mood the last couple days.
  8. But like being recessed, the angle of the curve can also determine the difference between the start of the jack and any edge that gets in the way of a large plug that needs clearance, right? Or put another way a curve makes a portion of the jack recessed.
  9. Looks to be an increasingly curved surface (due to thinness), so assuming the jack is completely recessed thought some wider plugs may have issues with front edge. Kinda like iPhone 1G. As for the Roku, all models prices all dropped yesterday. That timing couldn't have been a coincidence. I like the Roku and the HD version has more output options than the ATV (including TOSLINK - say you wanted to use with conventional DACs and with the Rokus Pandora, RadioTime, etc. channels). Remote and GUI are decent, but you'd never mistake them as designed by Apple. Lets call them functional. For Netflix, you still have to add to queue, etc. on a computer, but play, pause, etc. can all be done with the players remote. The Apple TV obviously has greater communication with your other devices (Roku doesn't communicate with your computers except cloud based settings - Pandora station setup, Netflix streaming queue, etc.). Big win for ATV there. Shame we can have the TOSLINK and local lossless library on the same streamer. The choice between the Roku and ATV really depends on those communication and connection needs and how quickly Apple or Roku adds 'channels'/'functionality.' When it comes to that, if I had to leap on faith it would be with Apple. And like adding FM to the nano today, they allowing Netflix is hopefully a positive sign of change on their part. A little more open (even if main motivator is market). It's just today I'm a little disappointed as my hopes were rather high for a different OS on the Apple TV.
  10. I thought it was a week away?
  11. Wonder if this is really the big news of the keynote? Apple's AirPlay music streaming coming to third party speaker docks, receivers, and stereos -- Engadget "... and damn, building a mix-and-match whole-house audio system just got incredibly easy."
  12. iPod touch (2010) first hands-on! -- Engadget Wonder if that phone jack is going to cause any problems?
  13. I gave up on cable for the interwebs awhile ago, but disappointed with ATV also. Really hoping for an iOS device (though I know interface and especially controller issues are there) for additional functionality and video services through future apps. Wonder if these smaller changes will be enough to significantly boost the ATV over the mediocre 'hobby' sales previously? At least I don't regret the Woot $59 Roku purchase a few weeks ago.
  14. The nano looks huge though. Also CD removed from the iTunes logo. Good-bye redbook.
  15. FM radio? That doesn't sound very Apple.
  16. Found a still...
  17. Watching a very messed up Ustream of the ongoing Apple keynote. Difficult to see, but did a new, tiny, touchscreen nano just get released?
  18. Some cheapo Belkin toslink and a Zu Pivot.

    The Wire

Just starting five, but besides the two week delay on getting the box set (after seeing the first season on snail mail Netflix), the 'three episodes every night' isn't an exaggeration. So I figure I have less than a week left. Then back to movies until ~2015.

    The Wire

Al, I'm close. Got Mel interested, so can't watch three episodes every night to complete, but holiday weekend coming up. You know, it's difficult to compare to The Sopranos. Whether they knew it at the beginning or not, in the end The Sopranos was about something comparatively small - family. No individual episode of The Wire is as good as a dozen (yes, episodic) episodes of the Sopranos, but this scope is so large - an American city - and so unerringly told*, it's without a doubt a grander achievement. It's really something special. I'm not much of a TV watcher, and don't expect to love more than one or two shows a decade, and suspect this is the best I'm going to see for a while. Should anyone out there in Ohio or wherever only get through... say the first two seasons, they really should take a second look. *Well, besides gender, which they have a few interestingly things to say, but there's little doubt the creative team is entirely male and write the characters as such. Also the early seasons main character, McNulty, is such a fictional cop stereotype he sticks out when everyone else is so carefully juggled. Okay, as I was typing that note, you have me interested in my most disliked character.

Nearing the end. Every time a friend now mentions Burn Notice, Leverage, etc. I want to punch them.
  22. The iPads system sounds aren't terribly high quality. You may want to try listening to music. But seriously folks... the difference between unamped/portable amped iPad use is less than with/without an external DAC and then amped (depending on which of both of course) IMO. I really like the iPad + camera kit + UCA202 + Parasound DAC + Pico Slim. Very portable.
  23. I think I missed the Eva Mendes part.
  24. Seems the first adjustment everyone makes. Not sure about the fancy new models, but that was the case with older ones. Haven't tried myself, nor heard anyone review. With double the storage may be more useful for new Kindles.
  25. Congrats x2. BTW, how do you like that social underline feature? And anyone here use the experimental MP3 support for music? Kindle and JH13s - ultimate portable brain food?
