  1. I use Universal, but back the Constant Quality RF from 20 to 20.5 (to usually keep under 2GB and the occasional file system issues that hit above). That's for archiving and transfer, not iPad related. The file extension shouldn't matter though. Have done a bunch on a Windows and Mac Handbrakes and ended up with both .mp4 and .m4v.
  2. In the last 3 minutes I've received email notifications of an Airport Extreme shipping, a Kindle received at work, and a JH13 impression arriving in their lab (and expected to ship the 15th). Triple hit. Life is good.
  3. No, they are... when they are. Often I feel there is the K1000 and then there is every other headphone. Staging, top-end and general live performance energy recreation can be so good. That said eliminating all the practical considerations of size, isolation, dedicated amp, portability, etc. and focusing solely on audiophile recordings, their low end is still problematic on a large minority of the well recorded music out there. And a lot of those tunes are wonderful and I don't want to compromise. I guess we all know this, but approaching solving that bottom issue brings in even more practical concerns. Couple that with generally I dislike previewing every track in my head before deciding which phone to grab, I find myself often going back and forth between the K1000 being still underrated and overrated. Little comes remotely close in success, or as easy to demonstrate failure (across gear). IMO the 4070 performs better overall on that scale, though no doubt significantly behind the K1K on many [most audiophile?] recordings. From the comments of others, I optimistically hope JH13/3A+16 is in the ballpark (maybe even while used in a ballpark).

    Thanks much.
  5. Anyone have a case they're particularly found of? Was thinking of this or this, but would consider anything that gets out of the way and doesn't make the Kindle feel even more plasticy.

After getting the iPad I immediately bought a few ebooks and have yet to complete one. Hell, I've yet to finish a sampler. Between the eye strain and the draw to check RSS feeds, etc. this is the one area the iPad hasn't been a complete success for me. Well, the other areas successes might be the problem. Although I wish the Kindle had native ePub support like the Nook, converting non-DRM files seems simple enough (and DRM ones I could care less about format). Every title I've checked has Kindle editions cheaper than B&N, iBooks, and Borders ebooks and all, including Amazons, paperbacks. I'm sure there are exceptions, but I haven't come across one in the last couple weeks (admittedly have only looked up a dozen titles). Audiobooks to me is all about commutes. Increase or decrease that and their use adjusts accordingly. I listen to about a tenth I did five years ago. Well, that and podcasts have nudged them aside a bit - that damn This American Life app! Tack on the weight difference with the iPad and I hope this is going to be a solution. Fingers crossed. if not, at least it will be a way to share ebooks with others. Toss them the Kindle/iPad while reading the other.
