NHL 2008/2009 edition
Friday night will be great regardless, headphones and hockey or maybe speakers and hockey (the wife will be out of town). One team will win and one will lose and the Cup will be hoisted regardless and that is always a great thing to see. But, Go Pens and then it's back to speculating on front office decisions by the Carolina Hurricanes for the next 3 months.

Marantz SA-KI Pearl CD/SACD player
First hicup this morning with the Pearl. Won't play Sonopress SACD Jazz Sampler from 2005. Display says "Can't Read" but it will play CD layer. Will have to randomly sample the 200 or so SACD's I have to see if this happens again. I know there were some issues with Sonopress SACD's in the past but this one will play on my Marantz SA11S1.

HD800? Another rumor?
Regarding the 800's, for $1400 I would want perfection.

Marantz SA-KI Pearl CD/SACD player
Never did as a habit on audio gear but do it as a habit on computer gear. Sometimes I drink and forget what kind of gear I am messing with.

Marantz SA-KI Pearl CD/SACD player
So far: PROS: SOUND, it's fat and super dynamic CONS: No balanced out, only toslink in, filter(s) which is really one filter on or off even though it says 1 and 2, and they are only selectable with remote and display is only on or off with remote, no dimming. OM says DO NOT CLOSE TRAY MANUALLY OR YOU WILL DAMAGE TRANSPORT...yikes. Differences between Pearl and SA 15 include: Copper chasis, supposedly upgraded components such as caps and resistors, caps are in copper cans. RCA's are machined from stock. Custom transport that is different design and materials than SA15. Solid aluminum top and bottom plate. Pearl weighs between 30 and 40lbs. Two or three more ferrite chokes on wiring inside and the zen of Ken Ishiwata.

Marantz SA-KI Pearl CD/SACD player
Just got this in yesterday and cold right out of the box, put a big smile on my face. This thing has gobs of PRAT and I now have BASS like I never had before. BIG SOUND out of this black box. Hate to use this cliche but I am hearing things (minute details) that I never heard before. Could be a keeper.

I'm only pulling for them because my other choice is Detroit.

Luxman P1 vs Headamp GSX
Please advise on the balanced input test. Word on the street is the P-1 will be available again this year. I don't think the P-200 has even started shipping yet. The thing that is killing me is that AQII price for a P-1 is same as USA price for a P-200. The P-1 sure looks a lot more like a reference piece that than the P200.

No luv here for Wings. Respect, yes, but no luv.

NHL 2008/2009 edition
My record is still (almost) perfect but I don't like what my crystal ball is telling me about game 7. Go Pens!
-
NHL 2008/2009 edition
I predict a game 7 but I have been wrong before, once.

NHL 2008/2009 edition
I can't believe the blood letting stopped at 5. Fluery was having an off night to be sure and the rest of the team didn't show up until the 3rd.

What did you do today?
Lawns and jobs are highly overated. I am ready to get rid of both.

What are you listening to Part Two

Just ordered a pair...dammit- What are you listening to Part Two
inspired to give this a listen again from CanJam thread...all Lee Morgan sides are worth owning- NHL 2008/2009 edition
The Pens won one last night. They got a power play goal on a Craig Adams dive (not really, he tripped over his 2 left feet, I hate that guy). Go Pens!- Garbage disposal & power conditioning
The pro can do what I am talking about for just the cost of a service call. I have a Toroid Corp powervar type device that is hospital grade. I have my head rig plugged into it. I can hear the thyristor switching in my floor lamp that is on the same ckt. I don't think the powervar will solve your problem but if you get one, make sure you can return it. Cheers!- Best sounding USB cable for over $1149
Isn't it amazing what you can do with 5 volts?- Garbage disposal & power conditioning
It just occurred to me that the power ckt/circuit breaker your system is on could be on the same bus/phase but hopefully not the same actual ckt as your disposal. Again, if you are not comfortable doing this, hire a pro, but it may be as simple as switching the location of the ckt breaker in the panel to different phase/bus bar.- Best sounding USB cable for under $60
Office Depot carries the Belkin brand and my closest OD has 3 flavors of Belkins, two with gold plating which does seem to be a better electrical/electronic termination metal. Don't know about the wires inside. The mid grade with gold plate seems to work well in my modest PC sound system. All under $60. There is a shoot out of USB cables floating around somewhere in cyber space and the Belkins were in the mix.- Garbage disposal & power conditioning
Garbage disposal is a high current draw/high switching transient load. For less than $500 you should be able to get an electrician (if you are not inclined that way) to run a dedicated, homerun power circuit from the breaker panel to your gear and have him put the new circuit breaker on the phase/leg that the disposal is not on. - Grado HF-2 thread
