My desert island band... those three certainly fit the bill... off the top of my head, I'd like to add "This World Over", "That Wave", and "Wrapped in Grey"

With what existential crisis are you grappling right now?

Spam....... with beans! -
Indeed! Love Monseigneur Browne's brown boots! Ah, glam... Vera noice!
-
My pleasure! Isn't it fricking NUTS!!?!?!? Duncan Browne is one of the principals, those two solo albums aren't as good as Metro but have some great moments. Discovered this when I was reading the liner notes for Bowie's _Let's Dance_ and figured out that "Criminal World" was a cover...

...little weird as one of them was actually my youngest sister... otoh another was an ex so you may be onto something... *sigh*

think the teac VRDS is another sort of beast, not belt driven... i do have one belt-driven transport (C/BD-2000)... it does sound very unique... strangely, more "analogue" than the rest of 'em. very smooth with great midrange. top end sounds weird and bottom has no impact. observations confirmed by multiple totally uninterested female parties. have always suspected a clock upgrade would really help this one. haven't tried again since acquiring digital lens... theory is the weight of the cd/heavy puck mechanism coupled with the isolation of the belt shields the rotating mass from wow/flutter/pulses caused by the motor, thus providing the frickin' laser beam with a "more perfect"ly smooth read on the pits and lands. *shrug*

Then we can all pitch in and donate some gear so he can have a couch rig to listen to.

What've you done now, ya sicko?
-
Awesome! Congrats, Tony! I'm so glad you've ended up with the system you've wanted for so long! Tell me how you feel they compare to the SR-X/Pros! 'stretch, it isn't a matter of if you end up with Stax.....just when............
-
Regarding amps.....see if you can score an old Threshold S/300..............absolutely awesome......................on and IMHO pre-SST Brystons can be a little brutal.........in the mondo bargain bin, the B&K ST-140, ST-202 and ST-202+ are giant killers!

Seems an appropriate topic for this hour of the morning... -
Actually an extremely fair point... The timing certainly feels weird to me as well. If they had made some effort to make the left hand fingering even remotely realistic, that would have helpd too. Frankly, I tend to avoid playing in real life since I suck so hard at it and get made a ton of fun of as a result... especially after being a cocky asshole by spouting the whole "play a real instrument" shtick. On that note I'm off to go listen to some Big Star... "You Get What You Deserve" sounds appropriate.

Can Rock Band teach you to do this? (not too shabby an old-school tone for DI'd...) (apologies for the GLARING wrong note in one of the last few bars!) Rock Band can suck me. Only thing I actually am any good at on there is singing......everything else just feels so wrong.

Thiel CS3.6 + Threshold S/500 or PSB Stratus Goldi + Threshold S/500
-
Late to the party here but I have never met a pair of PSBs I didn't like. The Stratus Goldis are fucking breathtaking... need mondo nice SS power however. My father has a pair of ancient Passif IIas and they are really nice!

I actually own a 4001C64 (in JetGlo...) and with flats on it doesn't growl at all...... pop on some Rotosound RS66s however and I'm Chris fucking Squire.
-
Love the mini-325C64! ...but why can't there be one of these.....? So much cooler than the Hofner! edit: and one of these! .......can you tell I'm a Rickenbacker slut?
-
I bet one could do quite a bit better for $350.........
-
Mine started as a Mk.I as well, and was then upgraded to Mk.II and finally Mk.III. You need a D2D-1 (or a Genesis Digital Lens...) for Toslink....makes it actually palatable! ST optical is actually a great interface........

Symphones "MAGNUM" pre-order and discount

Getting warm! Anticipation building! -
Would be interesting to see pics of the digital (middle) board in your Mk.II... my Mk.III definitely has OPA627s after the PCM1704s! Out of curiosity, you have an original Mk.II or upgraded Mk.I? (upgraded would have a toggle switch with three positions on the front for input selection, original Mk.II would have a button to cycle through five inputs) Not dead easy to convert to 220V. New transfos, at least... see PM re Russia guy btw. Cheers,

Vera noice. Also vera noice. It would take me hours to compile a list worthy of this thread..... there are a lot of perfect songs. First one that comes to mind, however, is "I'm Mandy, Fly Me" by 10cc, from my Desert Island Album, 1976's _How Dare You_

I have a WRT54G v5 and am running DD-WRT micro on it. With the stock Stinkpiss.....er.......Linksys firmware, the fucking thing couldn't route its way out of a wet paper bag with a goddamn machete...... now it's indistinguishable from plugging my hackintosh straight into the cable modem. Install was only slightly cunty, good guides out there. Easy on a v4. GO FOR IT!

Innit. I got a XLR-TRS adapter and plugged the output of one of my CD transports into the "input" jack on this thing and it just made funny noises....? This is just a pre so it's going with a Crest CA9 power amp... for the moment I'm borrowing a MarkBass 4x10 but digging around to figure out what to buy.... really want a Bergantino NV610 but I am a weakling and would look like a douche rolling into normal sized bars with such a rig I think...... will probably end up with a couple smaller Bergies.... as for playing, any time you roll through Vancouver!
