  1. I'm not sure if there are less added taxes/duties but Amazon es does distribute OWC memory. You could go to the OWC web site, get the part number, then find it on Amazon es and try ordering it there (search Other World Computing). If you have any question about the exact part you need, the OWC sales folks will be happy to tell you. If you have enough space, dual boot. https://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/mac-software/dual-boot-mac-3659676/
  2. Whatever the ram specs say regarding speed (on mine it's 2666) is usually as fast as a stock Mac can use so anything over that would be a waste of money. In the real world, the difference won't be perceivable (maybe in some gaming apps) for most users. I know in audio production it doesn't make a difference. There are lots of articles on the web that get down to the nano seconds per hz calculations but here's a pretty simple one (couldn't find the super detailed one I looked at and didn't understand before). https://www.thetechlounge.com/blog/ram-speed-and-timings/
  3. I forgot to mention that it seems like Apple's price to upgrade SSD size on the new iMac are much more reasonable than it was when I bought mine a year ago. Not that it's as cheap as buying it and installing it yourself, but like I said, that has to be done by Apple so $600 for an upgrade from 512 to 2T seems pretty reasonable to me.
  4. Just checked and they do still recommend installing ram in equal sized pairs (optimized). Still, the Corsair Vengeance 16Gx2 should be fine. Just be sure it's compatible with your machine.
  5. Astonishing footage of the explosion in Beirut today. RIP at least 10 dead in this event!
  6. Tosin Abasi was mentioned in another thread and this is a nice interview that RB did a few months back. A little "deep in the weeds" for a general listening thread so I thought it was more appropriate here. Sorry for posting the same video Dusty. I was thinking that you'd posted one of the NAMM 2019 videos and not this one. Must be gittin' soft in the head in my old age!
  7. I'm not sure how the pricing comes out for you but, OWC memory that I have comes in 32G sticks. I bought 2 a year ago (for almost twice what it is today). Each stick is $159 us. If I go crazy, I could expand mine to 128G for about $320us. They also buy Apple memory if you you buy some of theirs. You DO have to remember to send it!!!! (my 8G stick is in a drawer somewhere because,.. well, I done forgot!). https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/2666DR4S128S/
  8. Great that the release came sooner than expected. The added 10 core is a welcome addition. Since my iMac doesn't have the T2 chip, I should be able to upgrade my 8 core to it if the improvement is significant (not that I really need it but,..). I'm sure that the audio OCD crowd will have benchmarks on Logic Pro X soon enough. I am surprised that the bezel-less display and the iMac chin is still around but it doesn't bug me at all (I thought it might). The price on the ram has been dropping steadily for the past year. Be aware that the T2 chip will only allow Apple to exchange the main storage. So it's worth getting an ssd on size larger than you can get away with (I don't know where any work would be done to your machine in Spain but mine would probably have to be shipped out of state for any factory work). No matter how you configure a new iMac Antonio, you will be in heaven considering your 2011(?) MBP. Enjoy!
  9. Yamaha has a slew of lower cost mixers and their cost to quality ratio is usually pretty high for musical devices. Once again, it pays to think about what you want to do with it (live-studio-both) what features are most important and then discuss it with a sales guy at somewhere like Sweetwater.
  10. Here's a dark one for your covid night viewing. And another cool soundtrack from Saunder Jurriaans and Danny Bensi (Ozark) and creepy performances from Ben Mendelsohn and Cynthia Erivo A little flawed but I was pretty hooked after a couple of episodes.
  11. Happy Birthday Antonio! Hope you get a chance to take a breath today!
  12. RIP Peter Green Saw Fleetwood Mac in 68-69? with Green. All I really remember was that it was LOUD! The first time I saw a WEM (Watkins Electric Music) PA sytem. They played in an old wooden building called the Atlanta Sports Arena where you either stood or sat on wooden bleachers. http://www.thestripproject.com/the-sports-arena/
  13. Still thinking about Johnny Mandel I guess. I listened to a number of wonderful takes on this song today.
  14. Funny you should mention the Keylab 61. My faithful old Novation Impulse 61 (bought in 2013) started acting weird and after trying a number of things, I decided to retire it. I tried a NI 61A keyboard but it was too clacky/noisy for me so I sent it back. I ordered a black Keylab 61 mkII from Vintage King (couldn't find anyone who had any in stock). That was the beginning of July and my sales rep said my order was added to an existing order that was made in June. So far, no word on when I can expect it. Luckily my Impulse still works well enough so some workarounds make it useable for the time being (I do have to unplug it when using some Kontakt instruments that use CC#1/mod wheel for important controls such as dynamic layer choice). Anywho, I'll let you know what I think when it gets here. Regarding softsynths,.. They vary greatly. But newer ones aren't as cpu hungry as ones like Omnisphere or Stylus. I think that modern computers have plenty of grunt to run any standalone synth though. Of course, certain patches are worse than others (complex time based modulations) and you can bring just about any cpu to it's knees if you stack enough of them. When I was in between houses and staying in an AirBB, I ran Pro Tools, Ableton, Logic or Reaper from my 2012 MacBook Pro in clamshell mode (closed with and external monitor). It has a 4 core Intel i7 with 16G ram. Here's a screenshot of a Reaper session I was working on at that time. Not exactly a big project but I can't recall even thinking that it was putting a stain on my laptop (the laptop's fan noise makes it obvious when it is having a tough time).
  15. I actually had a dream last night where I was talking about how much I loved these masks!
  16. WindowSwap https://window-swap.com/ Look out of someone else's window and/or submit your own.
  17. Here's a couple of great Terminal commands. Never used renice, but Caffeinate is fantastic for long recording sessions. https://www.pro-tools-expert.com/production-expert-1/2020/6/24/macos-terminal-tricks-for-audio-professionals?mc_cid=8931027566&mc_eid=127e3a2a73
  18. Here's a nice (mac) tool for viewing MIDI messages (or the lack of,..) coming from devices in your system. Logic shows midi messages but they go by so feakin fast that all you reliably see is that there is a signal coming in. snoize MiDI Monitor is free and light. Great for solving difficult midi issues. https://www.snoize.com/MIDIMonitor/
  19. Happy Birthday Jose!
  20. Austria 1 was wild and wooly! I wouldn't say it said much about what to expect during the rest of the 2020 season, but very entertaining (and a great diversion)!
