Same here. I don't exactly remember how the woodies affected the sound, but they really didn't provide all that much isolation.

Anyone know the going rate for a used ARC PH3?
Salt Peanuts replied to Salt Peanuts's topic in Headphone Amplification
Cool, thanks for the offer, Nate. Hopefully, I won't get the urge to go start looking at some NOS tubes. -
Nate, if you ever power up and use the gain-clone, let me know how you like it (or not).

Well, I think I'm going to try out some new tubes (and Herbie's tube dampers - I had forgotten about them) with the phonostage. Time to go look through some 6922 tubes. -
Congrats, Ethan! I hope everything works out well for you.

I may give the JJ tubes a try. At $10 a tube, it's worth a shot to see if it'll solve the noise issue. -
I was wondering if anyone knew the going rate for a used ARC PH3 phonostage in a good condition? I've been thinking of selling it and replacing it with a solid state phonostage since it's not exactly the quietest phonostage. I'm wondering if I can resolve some of the noise issue by replacing the tubes, but I know very little about the design of PH3 and 6922 tubes it uses. EDIT - I've been looking on A'Gon, but haven't seen any PH3 on there of late.

LOL. Yeah, for a custom work, it'll probably be around a year wait or so - my order's not there yet. Of course, having had an amp built by him before, I knew of the potential for long wait, especially with ordering something that is probably pretty close to being one-off.

new dac considerations (for computer transport)
Salt Peanuts replied to mjg's topic in Home Source Components
Speaking of mini-dac power supply, if you don't want to shell out for getting a sigma11 built, there's an Elpac ps you can buy that reportedly is noticeably better than the stock one. Unfortunately, I didn't get to try that option before I sold my mini-dac a while back. -

Nate, if you decide to go with a Mac (assuming someone figures out a way to sell the idea to your wife), I'd wait until October when the new OS X comes out. And yes, I know this really wasn't an advice at all. -
