  1. You can buy them from me if I do decide to sell them. Maybe so. As much as I'm intrigued by vinyl, I'm also tempted to go all out and upgrade the digital front. The difficulty is that I'd like for it to be able to play SACD (universal would be nice, but I can deal with not having DVD/DVD-A) and that narrows the choice down some. Any opinions on high-end SACD or universal players? I did briefly look at Opus 21, but it doesn't do SACD and right now, I believe there's a fairly long wait for a new unit. EDIT - Another thing in favor of digital upgrade is that hassles of vinyl scares me more than anything, especially since I may be moving around couple of times in the next year or so.
  2. Thanks for the replies, guys. I'm still in a limbo as to whether I'm going to go ahead with this. Of course another option is to sell my Stax rig and DV-50 and upgrade my digital source altogether - I doubt I can get anything that would make it worthwhile (on the digital front), though.
  3. So ever since I've gotten into headphones couple of years back, I've been intrigued by vinyl. Everytime I think about pursuing vinyl, I tell myself it's too much of a pain and I stop thinking about it. It helps in that I know very little about vinyl. Of late, I've been pondering if I should just sell one of my rigs (most likely the Stax rig) and get a vinyl setup. What do you all think of that, and vinyl in general?
  4. Ah, speakers. Personally, I'm glad that I'm perfectly happy with my budget speaker rig, and that other factors (e.g., room arrangements) essentially discourage me from upgrading it.
  5. Lucky bastard. Got to love living in an old house/apartment in the middle of a crowded residential area.
  6. That's fine by me. I'm surprised, though, that you hadn't chucked it off a cliff after what it put you through.
  7. BTW, Nate, I sincerely hope you'll have better luck with this than you have had with the digital side of the things recently.
  8. Congrats on your new (used) toy, Nate! I'm glad to know that I'll never head down the vinyl path. Priceless.
  9. As I've stated earlier, I've sold my pair. I've, in fact, sold them for a modest profit, and I'd do it again without hesitation to get me what the market can fetch me for a pair. If anyone had offered me $400 for them while I still had my pair, I'd have sold them in a heart beat.
  10. Dang, it looks like a beauty, Zach! Keep us posted how it does once you're done with everything.
  11. Woohoo! I've been looking forward to this! I'll be impatiently waiting for their release so I can try them out with my K1000's.
  12. I'm not buying a pair at least until I get a chance or two to hear them with my rig. Even then, I doubt I'll actually end up with a pair (unless I win a lottery, of course).
  13. Sorry, I won't be able to give any useful opinion in regards to its capability as a preamp since I'm a complete speaker newbie and have had only one preamp (an headphone amp with preamp out at that) before.
  14. Something like that. Though I really think I'm pretty much done for a long while now.
  15. No worries, I didn't forget about them. I just had to rush through to get those pics before I left my place. I'll make sure to get pics of them plugged in when I'm back at my place.
  16. I just realized that what I wrote on my last post sounded odd. Of course, I couldn't fix it by the time I figured out my mistake. Doh. Anyways, here are some pics. Any and all spots, lines, etc. are some dust and not scratches. Please bear with the poor lighting, poor picture quality, and lack of any image processing. I would've used K1000's for the last pic, but I was too lazy to take them out of their box.
  17. Sorry, but my hearing's still out of whack for the most part. I haven't been able to take any good pics of it either since I haven't really been home of late (work and life too busy). I'm hoping I'll get some pics sometime tomorrow late night since then I'll be out of state for few days.
  18. You know, I vaguely remember you starting a thread on Head-Fi a while back asking whether your son would prefer you leaving him vintage guitars or headphone gears...
  19. That, too. I also gotta try out the balanced KSC35's. You're telling me. My allergy/sinus has been kicking me in the arse this spring far worse than usual.
  20. Congratulations, Ethan! I think I'm the one that should be envious of an amp, not you. Wow, that really should be something. We definitely need to have another mini-meet once you get this new custom amp in few months.
  21. Definitely! I'd love to hear your SA5000's again. I really do need to get the RS-1's reterminated soon.
  22. No impressions yet - it's being burnt in as I type this, and my hearing is out of whack due to severe allergy and sinus issues.
  23. Just about every single piece of equipment I own or owned have been bought without trying them first, except for RS-1, K1000, K701, Stax SR-007 (of course, these four cans also happen to be the ones I still own at this moment). As stated earlier, it's often bit difficult to demo headphone related gears, especially headphone amps.
  24. Yeah, they really did sound nice out of SDS-XLR (or was that Supra-XLR I tried them with?) when I tried them at past meets.
