  5. Hey Smeggy, interested in comparing notes? I was going to create my custom ear mold by: 1) get ear impressions 2) cast the ear impressions in silicon putty 4) stick in acoustic tubing and fill the cavity with epoxy 5) after curing, coat the surface of the mold with hypo-allergenic lacquer for good measure. Still need to find time to do my impressions, but I think I have the basic materials. How were you going to create your molds?

  8. You would need extra circuitry to get sensing to work in that case though, and you would be sharing the signal line with the sensing function. I'm not sure if I'd want that.

  13. Huh. I stand corrected. But that is a tight fit... I've seen people agonizing over par-metal's customization services though, not sure if their create-a-size service would be any different. But I would be interested in their heatsinks if a "balls-to-the-walls" version for kgsshv is released.
  14. It won't fit. Imagine this as the chassis: You won't be able to fit the power supply in there.
  15. I've got the 2nd gen roomba. Like jvlgato said, after its done with the room it'll find the dock, park, and sleep. It was quite useful back when I was living in res. I could turn it on before class, laundry or whenever I leave the room, and when I come back the room would be cleaner. But you can't really use it when you have stuff lying around on the floor everywhere. It'll sweep them around everywhere. Also, sometimes it pulls on cables, knocking things off the table. (Like my laptop ) So now that I live at home, with several projects and parts for projects lying around the floor, it sorta just sits under my bed unused. Last time I've used it was probably over 6 months ago.

Number 6 says that the hole in the center is to reduce the temperature of the driver. Number 7 says that the stator is formed from 3 pieces under high temperature and pressure.

  18. There wasn't a whole lot of technical information in there apparently. I had a friend who knows Japanese help me translate what he was saying. He said that there was no official name for the the product yet, but it is code named c32. The frames are all hand crafted. It's being done for the 50th anniversary of Stax. Then he talked about how the thing works in general, what's important in designing the driver and stuff. But yeah, because of the special driver the new flagship is around 300,000 to 500,000 yen.
  19. I'm not sure, this is not a field that I am an expert in. But I wanted to understand the circuit a little better, that's why I asked. I'd guess differences between the individual jfets within the dual fet? But they are on the same die, so the difference should be minimal, and because they are on the same die, thermal drifting should be minimal... Would the difference between the dual fets be a problem between the channel? I have a feeling that it would not. Jesus, I felt like I'm taking a test.
  20. So I ordered some LSK389A in TO71 packages directly from Linear Systems' Canadian sells representative. It was pretty hassle-free. I was told they will be shipped in 2 weeks; so it really shouldn't be too hard for people to source these parts, if they do decide to use them. There is a question I want to ask though. The input stage of the kgsshv is a common source amplifier, is this correct? What would be some desirable characteristics for the jfets in this configuration? The reason is that I found an thread by EUVL recently: A Compact, High-Performance Source Follower Module - diyAudio Where he describes desirable characteristics for jfets in CS loaded source follower. So I am wondering the same thing about the circuit in the kgsshv. He also blasted the 2SK170 on its actual noise level, and distrust LSK389s' manufacturing tolerance. (how's that for hyperbole?) The article he linked down in a few posts shows that the manufacturing tolerance for these device was on the rise from 2006~2007 though, but that was three years ago, so I am also left wondering what their manufacturing tolerance is like now...
  21. heh, I mean that the 0 AC30 AC30 should be 0 AC15 AC15. If its an RSA product, all the transistors would have their part number rubbed out.
  22. About the specs of the transformer, the original specs is rated at (2) 475-0-475 @ 39VA and (1) 15-0-15 @ 10VA, is this still correct? BTW, the silk screen reads 0 AC30 AC30...
  23. Hey MASantos, just wanna let you know that the Opus DAC kit you passed on to me last year is alive and kicking. It's now serving beautiful music to my 404s!
