  1. Congrats guys. Please let the rest of us know how they compare with the O2!
  2. Good Job! Just a little more and you're done!
  3. I built the hybrid version. TBH, It's still pretty good. It's just that it is not as good as the KGSS. For one, Bass is more present on the KGSS. I like that better. I also felt that the KGSS is able to render complex passages better. I can't detect any distortions (like clipping) in those passages on the KGSS, but sometimes on the exstata it's there and it's more noticeable when I have the volume at 12 O'clock. The distortions I've experienced does not limit to clipping though, I also felt that amp could not keep the volume on a constant volume during certain passages, as if the volume would vary ever so slightly. Both of these things occurs really rarely, but it bugs me when I notice it. If you really want to build one, just don't go all out like you normally do. I've never heard the 407 before. I do have a pair of 404s sitting around, but I'm not brave enough to do a driver swap with my 507. From what I read it is very similar to the 507s though, but I think that the weak seal with the default pads (compared to the 507) would mean that the bass would not be as good as the 507s.
  4. 507 + KGSS = good stuff. 507 + exstata = not as good stuff.
  5. As little as $1475 in the American markets and the last pair I saw on japanese auction sites was around ~$1100 after currency conversion. No idea how the sr-009 would affect used o2's price. So what do we call the 009s now? The O3s?
  6. I've been interested in technologies used in the smyth realizer in a while. Turns out it wasn't that hard to do the head-tracking or the binaural cue coding stuff. Most of the research have been done and most of it have been published in academic journals. What's unique about the smyth realizer is that its able to simulate the listening environment from the measurements taken from those in-ear microphones. I'm interested in how they did that.
  7. The same guy also have some 2sk389s. You can hardly find those anywhere any more...
  8. OOh, very nice. Thank you very much. I thought they had increased the thickness of the diaphragm, but instead they made it thinner. I still don't see its specific thickness though?
  9. !!!! Please let us know when you managed to put B22 on a chip.
  10. That's open source software for ya. If You could always get Virtualbox and install unbuntu as a guest OS on your Windows host.
  11. I just had the chance to listen to the KGSS at today's Toronto meet. It was very impressive. Especially with the sr-507, the KGSS had driven it much better than my exstata hybrid. The exstata had a slightly recessed bass comparatively, giving it a forward sound. OTOH, KGSS sounded more balanced. The exstata also had a tendency to distort under loud volumes, something that KGSS does not do. Overall KGSS is a much better amplifier. I can't wait to build the KGSSHV! I've also had the chance to listen to O2 mk1. There was an issue with channel imbalance with this particular pair, but the KGSS had separate volume controls for each channel, so it wasn't too big of an issue. Despite the issue with it, I liked it. It was very spacious, had more bass impact comparatively, and was very comfortable. However, I had the feeling that it wasn't as clean as the 507s on the KGSS. It probably has something to do with the issues surrounding this pair.
  12. I'll be looking to you for replacements if one or more of my devices blow up. Good Luck.
  13. You should definitely consider teksavvy cable. For about the same price you can get 5 times the cap. Also, since they are on the same lines as rogers (for cable anyways) you don't have to worry about degrading performance.
  14. http://ca.gizmodo.com/5765091/top-10-headphone-hacks I'm definitely going to try out #8.
  15. Definitely a Darwin award candidate.
  16. That's the right one. All the values are printed on the board, I think. If you want, you can substitute some of the transistors with new ones from kgsshv. Also, read this
  17. This reminds me of Perry Bible Fellowship:
  18. You can get those at partsconnexion. They are about 35 cents each. If you pick small packet air as your shipping option it shouldn't cost too much.
  19. The new forum software doesn't seem to like special characters in certain fields. Maybe you could ask a mod to change your old user name for you instead?
  20. Holy crap. This guy can jump higher on the bike than I can jump on my feet.
  21. A bag of transistors. But I got hit with 40 brokerage fees on top of import tax. I should've known better than to pick UPS as the shipping company...
  22. What little diode charge for 2SC3381 is way higher than it should be. bdent has them at half the price, and there is a diya member that sells them at $1.5 each.
