  1. For a more serious answer I really like my Aleph 30. Adds lots of bass and warms up the sound, improved a lot with a proper preamp. Pain in the ass though since it gets so hot and takes at least 30 minutes to warm up and sound best.
  2. What a coincidence I bought a second pair last week
  3. Congrats the RS-1 are really nice. IMO the high end Grados need tubes to add some magic to their already awesome sound. I'm thinking of selling my HF-1 and SR-225 (stupid impulse buy since they were dirt cheap) for an RS-1. Seems I can get 4 bills for the HF-1 on ebay But I'm torn since the HF-1 works really well for poor recordings.
  4. The perfect Aman counter would been banning the idiot.
  5. And someone thought I was crazy for asking to compare the Ed9 with the K81 DJ
  6. It's just weird how they rocketed in popularity out of the blue. Then again there has been a huge influx of noobs recently.
  7. It seems the d-getters made it worse (or maybe it was the grey glass)
  8. Still probably not giving us 98% protection. And we have no S-Logic!!! I mean it was invented in Germany, has to be good right?
  9. Earl thats too bad. Now you have to put up with the electro-magnetic emissions that our regular headphones can't protect us from
  10. Pretty sure we'll see her again somewhere...I mean they didn't exactly explain her destiny very well. Every season finale of BSG has not disappointed.
  11. STAAARRRRRBUUUUUUUUUUUUCK :'( :'(
  12. If Iron_Dreamer is referring to "that's a ton of plastic for a $1100 headphone" I'd have to agree with him. And the same headband used on a bunch of other Ultrasone headphones doesn't help in setting apart a true flagship from the rest of the herd.
  13. He has two pairs of E9s, and they have a deal with Rudi. Gee I don't think something funny is going on there. I do think mulveling's impressions are genuine.
  14. What do you guys think are some good low cost DACs? I'm not opposed to going the DIY route. Just needs a set of analog outs and one digital in (size/form factor not an issue, same with looks could be used uncased for all I care).
  15. I noticed this too with my Stax SR-404. It was worse on really badly mastered CDs. Particularly bad on a Coldplay album that I had to stop listening to after a few minutes into it. The Stax just couldn't handle most modern rock. Any sort of heavy distorting guitar caused this crackling/static sound. This was with an SRM-313 amp. edit: also heard this in an Omega 2/KGSS at one meet.
  16. The G08 is a great source I doubt that's what was lacking. I have a set of current production JJ tubes as well, and I wouldn't rate that headphone/amp/tube combo as anything other than average. The Teslas really wake the amp up. On this setup I'm definitely not hearing any lack of dynamics. I haven't heard a more dynamic setup in my home (maybe ever, but meets are too noisy to evaluate that).
  17. I grabbed it off Audiogon first day it was posted with around 100 views. Let's just say I paid way less than I should have given the condition, tubes and two faceplates
  18. Of course I completely forgot about classical :/ But there gets to a point in bass frequencies where it needs to be felt and heard at the same time. So I'm still in agreement with Biggie that bass extension on headphones doesn't mean a whole lot to me (unless we're talking about sub-bass being completely eliminated...) And it is a little funny when Sony quotes the Qualia as doing something like 8-60000 Hz, and people buy into it.
  19. Exactly, unless I'm listening to my Chesky Ultimate Demonstration disc, or something equally obscure bass extension isn't that important for instrumental music (electronic music is a different issue).
  20. Cool I'm looking forward to hearing what you think about the setup.
  21. So you gave in to the Technics fanatics and got a 1200
  22. Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis...
