  1. Looks nice, but I admit to confusion. How do you mount it? It looks like its just screwed directly into the tonearm.
  2. and this has been me the first two and a half years of my full time working career. I'm just now learning to stop engaging in this type of behavior. My boss was a little shocked the first time I raised hell about being abused regarding a day off I wanted (this being about three weeks ago). But she apologized and promptly gave me exactly what I wanted.
  3. I didn't buy any mouse ears.
  4. you made me giggle.
  5. happy birthday haj!! your digital rig will soon be similar to mine, so we are like digital brothers.
  6. I have to say, listening to the slow folksy rock sounds of Wilco, with a Grado cart dragging through the vinyl, into the apuresound recabled RS-1, is a pretty magical experience. And I am intimately familiar with magic, having just been in Disney World a few days ago.
  7. http://www.amazon.com/o/ASIN/B000TJQ75E/104-1306215-5332750?SubscriptionId=1ZJXCA3ADBXFZJPBRMG2 80 CDs, $200. Each CD comes in a mini-LP sleeve, and the CDs themselves are recreated to look like little vinyls. I have no familiarity with Gould's work, but I have a hard time passing up a deal like this. Any thoughts?
  8. the headcase shirt should be made of clear techflex.
  9. Good stuff Alex, thanks for the clarification. And I am enjoying the cans very much.
  10. your gear blows btw, i can see it there in your sig. you should buy more shit so i like you.
  11. The Black Dragon's internals are thinner, but since both cables use the same techflex, the end result is they are the same width. The V3 is significantly heavier then the BD (as far as cables go, anyway), and neither cable is flexible. The only two games in town for wood Grado recables are Drew @ Moon Audio and Alex @ apuresound. Trust me, I've done my research. Both are a pleasure to deal with, but Alex's turnaround is much, much faster, since Alex does his recabling in house and Drew has a deal with Grado Labs whereby they do the actual recable (takes 2-3 weeks).
  12. After several months of goading, a friend finally pushed the Lost Season 1 DVDs on me, so I'm giving them a shot. I'd watched the first few episodes of season 1 last year, and it didn't really do it for me, but I just watched episode 4, and it was pretty good.
  13. If I was the writer I'd have his speakers be Thiels, and I'd have Reks guest star in an episode about headphones vs. speakers. He'd be like, "Listen to my Thiels."
  14. The cable really fills out the techflex, unlike the Black Dragon which still has plenty of space between the actual cable and the techflex.
  15. Pretty thick cable, and pretty stiff as well. Bending the cable exhibits an almost clay-like feel, meaning the cable seems to every so slightly retain its shape after bent. I don't want to risk trying to bend it to far, though.
  16. I had communicated several special requests to Alex that he recable my RS-1s. Perhaps at my insistence, and the insistence of others, he came up with a procedure to recable the wooden body Grados in house that he is comfortable with. Check out his site, you'll see that he now does RS-1s, RS-2s, GS1000s, and MS-Pros.
  17. Pictures taken by Alex: http://apuresound.com/images/cables/v3/rs1/ This is set #2 of RS-1s for me, the are serial number 3279. I am really looking forward to comparing them with my serial number-less stock cable RS-1. I've the cans on my head as we speak; I've listened to the standard Genesis track, some Johnny Griffin, and now trey band on vinyl, and all impressions are positive. Its possible the cans are brighter then the older RS-1, as is popularly alleged, but I'll need to do a direct comparison before I can officially claim that (old RS-1 is away getting retermed). But honestly it seems the midrange is a bit richer, and the soundstage a tad deeper; there is zero muffling of any of the instruments, very nice! All this of course with flat pads. I'll give more impressions later, just wanted to share my new toy.
  18. I can tell pretty quickly if the international buyer is one I would like to deal with. If I receive a PM like: "hello how much for ship to aus thx" I don't even bother replying, they can kiss my 4 pages of HF feedback havin' ass.
  19. Anyway, I'm back and had a great time! I intended this thread to be a fun travelogue of my Disney adventure, but unfortunately the laptop I lent to my sister then borrowed back for the trip was broken on arrival, so no internet while I was there.
  20. i put the gear in my signature, i put it there for you to read, i have a system of gear for my music, i put it in my signature for you to read and enjoy! and that is the reason!
  21. PJ's Magick Kingdom Adventure, OR the big TGiving Disney World Trip Catching my connecting flight in Hotlanta Joja atm. Saw one of these pay terminals and thought I'd get on to say hello! The metal keyboard on this bitch is badass, I want to have stainless keys at my home. The big news is I got to test out my ER4P on the flight up, and it was a fantastic experience! I listened to several dead jams and was very impressed at the sound. Really everything was in its right place, PERFECT highs, nice bass, neutral mids. All in all the whole shuffle -> er4p experience was strongly reminiscent of the HP2 out of a home amp, only with less detail, more soundstage smearing (probably more a product of the MP3), less liquid midranges, and muddier bass. But even the fact that they are somewhat tonally similar is impressive to me. yay disney, woot!!
  22. I have quite enjoyed the back and forth between reks and slwiser the past few days.
  23. What are magic eye tubes? Are those the three tubes in the front? Anywho, the extra power increase sounds like good news for Grado owners. not this specific grado owner, but you know.
