  1. yeah, kind of cheapish looking in those shots.
  2. bump for more impressions! got your amp back yet?
  3. I think just the fact that they are so obviously cost cutting makes them unattractive. In a vacuum they are decent looking headphones. Personally I find the GS-1000 to be a very attractive phone, as well it should be for a grand. Also the pair I briefly owned smelled fantastic. I really miss that smell.
  4. Peter with the goodness! Thanks man, I'll keep an eye on this.
  5. huzzah! gotta sell some more stuff, buy more classical sacds.
  6. woot! time to turn the volume up yall! thanks nate.
  7. Well, the [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Mahler-Complete-Symphonies-Anna-Reynolds/dp/B0000589BP/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-4257600-5612108?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1186674510&sr=1-1]70's Sony set[/ame] is $130 cheaper then the [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Mahler-Complete-Symphonies-Orchestral-Bernstein/dp/B00000DI2T/ref=pd_bbs_3/102-4257600-5612108?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1186674583&sr=1-3]80's set[/ame].
  8. you should listen to the dead.
  9. yikes, the Bernstein set is even more expensive then the SF, and its redbook. I'll probably go with the SF.
  10. Cool, thanks humanflyz. I'm not a very good judge of performance quality at this point in my classical self-education. I'll look into the Bernstein set as well.
  11. Link To SFS Store Anyone heard this? I've really been enjoying the Living Stereo / Fritz Reiner Mahler's 4th, and am thinking the above might be a great way to get the whole cycle in glorious SACD sound.
  12. i'm being peer-pressure censored! all of my posts now have to have substance that clearly advances the headphone hobby.
  13. "It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back + DAC"
  14. why is that? i thought the first and second generations were relatively similar, i.e. same parts.
  15. If this trend continues, all the RS-1s in production three years from now will be pink. "The Ladies' Grado" On a more on topic note, I have spent the past few evenings spinning Ryan Adams and Steely Dan vinyl, listening to my RS-1 with flat pads through the Dynahi. It truly is a fine headphone.
  16. This is some good sense right here. Modded players are aplenty, and its not like I have a ton of DVD-As I need to listen to right at this moment.
  17. and if it was from ray the vinyl guys over at sh.tv would cream all over it.

    Hey

if you say soda or pop you sound like a yankee to me.
  19. lotta love for the 3910, seems to be a good bang for the buck player. but now that I have all this money back after selling a bunch of gear, I find myself reluctant to spend it! the paypal balance looks so nice. And then hungrych does an IC on his L3000s. Grrrrr...

    Hey

    yup, i'm from the south.
  21. ack, also the sacdmods 3910 has balanced outputs, if I ever decide to go that route.
  22. yeah, APL being "the" name in mods makes his the most expensive. of course by all accounts they are superb units worthy of their asking price. The sacdmods is attractive because I possibly could at some point in the future go multichannel with it if the fancy ever struck me, plus its a grand cheaper. The Modwright is stereo only, but again I know I like Dan's work. Both companies stand behind their products by all accounts.
  23. So I'm tinkering with the notion of dumping the 999es in favor of a player which also handles DVD-A and HDCD. HDCD capability is important since all of the new Grateful Dead Rhino releases are HDCD encoded, and I love the Grateful Dead. The most immediately obvious choice is a modded Denon 3910, since it is widely positively reviewed, and modded models can be had cheap on the gon. As we speak there is an sacdmods for 1300 and a modwright for 2300. I tend toward the Modwright since I'm already a fan of the Modwright house sound, and since it has that big ass overbuilt power supply (which, if I bought used, I would send in to get the tube rectification upgrade). I'm looking for recommendations beyond just modded units, they can be stock as well. $1000-3000 territory, thanks.
