  1. Meshuggah - Nothing
  2. yeah man you should give stax a shot. I'm really enjoying my budget srs-2020 system. it's all about that electrostatic speed. I haven't heard the lamba pro, but the normal bias lambda has the best midbass I've heard in a budget can.
  3. my fucking hero.
  4. everyone goes for speed and midrange purity eventually. the journey is fun though.
  5. it's kind of hard to explain, but it involves a viewing of the compleat Star Trek: The Next Generation, a chicken Parmesan from Hungry Howies, Reks changing names around, and Willowjack devouring pussywillow whole in a bloody, stinky, toothy mess. in a way, we are all better for it.
  6. its a good live show. they've definitely calmed down a bit since Isbell left the band, at least in their delivery, but the playing is on point, and the songs are just fantastic. Personally I still think Dirty South was their last truly great album. The releases since then have been good, but not Dirty South good, and certainly not Southern Rock Opera good, but obviously that is their opus and will never be topped. Ronnie and Neal just popped in my head, reminding me I'm seeing Neil Young and Allen Toussaint in about 5 hours.
  7. Man, can't believe I missed somebody on HC who actually cares about my Phish shows. July 1st was special because I got my first Llama and my first Roses Are Free. Painting the picture for you, we left Mobile, AL on Wednesday at 11pm, drove through the night to Raleigh, NC (14 hours), crashed for a couple hours in the hotel room, then hit up the show. Not ashamed to admit I teared up a bit when Roses Are Free started. Easily one of my favorite songs of all time. The rest of the show was great, pretty chill summer shed show to kick off the southern leg. July 2nd was the rock show, and even with all the badassness of the upcoming July 4th show I find myself returning to this one the most. Buried Alive kicked things off, which let us all know tonight would be zero fucking around. Good first set, closing with an absolutely rocking Chalkdust, a song which I generally am weary of, but I threw my back out to this one. However, it was Set II that was the magick: Set 2: Drowned > 46 Days > Twenty Years Later > The Lizards, Carini > Fuck Your Face > Also Sprach Zarathustra > You Enjoy Myself Rock rock rock rock, right up through Carini, into FUCK YOUR FACE, last time played April 29th 1987 (1,413 shows). It was that special kind of bust out (in fact the biggest bust out in Phish history, in terms of show gap) where nobody knew what the hell was going on until Gordon muttered "this guitar is going to fuck your face" and minds proceeded to be lost. The 2001 > YEM was outstanding, including a really special ambient moment during YEM, which included acapella Proud Mary, LTP 3/1/2003 (I was at that show). Phish - 7/2/10 "You Enjoy Myself" on Vimeo July 3rd was the chill out show, July 4th the tour closing bust out spectacular, including an unbelievable Harpua, which included a scorching cover of Rage's "Killing in the Name Of". Said Trey during the Harpua dialogue before KITNO, "...a song from the only other band besides Phish that won't bullshit you." Set 1: The Star Spangled Banner, Punch You In the Eye > Colonel Forbin's Ascent > Fly Famous Mockingbird, Camel Walk, Ocelot, Heavy Things > My Friend, My Friend > Lawn Boy, David Bowie, Gotta Jibboo Set 2: Down with Disease > Piper > Ghost > Waste, Julius > Mike's Song > Tela, Harpua[1] > Killing in the Name[2] > Harpua > Weekapaug Groove Encore: First Tube My first Forbins > Mockingbird (Forbins being my most chased song), first Camel Walk, first Tela, first Harpua. Easily the most statistically satisfying show I've seen. the best parts to listen to are 2nd set July 2nd, and 2nd set July 4th.
  8. Pretty much the same as Grasslands Observatory, just add a bevvy of hardcore techno beats and a singer like Geddy Lee meets the guy from Jamiroquai.
  9. Drive-By Truckers this past Wednesday Ghostland Observatory a few minutes ago
  10. Nate that's awesome!
  11. not to mention the black eyed peas record is an autotuned mess. i use NPR to test my car stereo. if I can hear Mike Siegel's voice without there being too much bass, it's just right.
  12. They seem remarkably similar to the old series. and I agree, no 909 is a shame. the stereo amp is also rated at max power. it's crazy quad would publish max power over rms power. they are pretty though. maybe this will drive old cdp-2 prices down even more.
  13. thanks everyone for contributing, but not actually purchasing raffle tickets. it is a generous way to help your old pal willow acquire more SNB (Shit Nate Built). this way everybody wins!
  14. this is terrible. saying a prayer for Todd and his family.
  15. OH SNAP!
  16. I was trying to explain to a friend of mine today, who had no real concept of an online community, about my name change, and about how my head-case friends used to call me postie. she said "I guess they are going to call you pussy now?" in all seriousness I just need to come up with a solid reason for reks to change my name back. he won't do it without a solid reason. so I am meditating and burning nag champa or cake flavored Yankee candles. here's hoping for inspiration. digipete I have a ring for my 1200, bought from a guy named rudolf bruil. Universal Record Stablizing Ring. I love mine.
  17. Amazon.com: Swords & Dark Magic: The New Sword and Sorcery (9780061723810): Jonathan Strahan, Lou Anders: Gateway i don't even like short stories, but this collection is converting me. some really quality stuff in here.
  18. never has my 1200 rig seemed so horribly inadequate as it does when I gaze upon this beauty. bravo sir! I would love to have that platter and bearing on my deck someday. do you have any interest at all in adding a record stabilizing ring?
  19. with the digital inputs might not be a bad get down the road on the used market.
  20. Comparing Singlepower to W4S isn't totally fair, since Mikhail's biggest issue was taking on so much goddamn impossible custom work. If he had stuck to off the shelf models and only taken on a small amount of custom work, ceteris paribus, he could still be the amp king today. In fact, limiting who he does custom work for could have just skyrocketed demand for his stuff. But anywho this topic is covered in greater depth elsewhere. Eric I see you have an Oppo. is it the SE?
  21. Yeah, I'm staying in the $1000-1500 range, which is why the W4S stuff appeals to me. This is a good idea! Still, I would be out the cost of shipping and whatever QS&D would charge me just for looking at it. Still, fine idea. If I ended up with two working units I could even use one in the headphone rig. Entirely possible! I've never had a system thats pleased me as long as the all-Quad family has, but its hard to deny the desire to explore other gear. Amen. Not sure exactly what you are getting at Abby, but after I read your post I broke up with my girlfriend. Is that what you wanted me to do? Just kidding we are going over the bay to watch the Auburn game tonight with my family for my Dad's birthday. tenderloin on the grill! I'll definitely be exploring various DAC options. There is tons of DAC info just on HC alone. Having said that, it has brought me great satisfaction having the "all-Quad" system. It sounds great, and even if there is a certain amount of bullshit to the idea, I like feeling that these components were "made for each other". makes me feel warm and happy.
  22. So as I mentioned in the other thread, my CDP-2 I purchased used on audiogon a while back (has it been years now?) is slowly falling apart. First, of course, the transport mechanism went out. I can live with that, I just ran a coax out from my Oppo to the player for when I want to spin a silver disc. But now, its official, the right channel is substantially quieter then the left, and even has some distortion and signal drop outs. This happens out of both the fixed outputs and the Quadlink. which brings me to a few options: 1. Get the CDP-2 repaired by QS&D. 2. Buy another CDP-2 on audigon (I've seen them as low as $450, screaming audio deals). 3. Buy something else. the wandering side of me likes option 3, since it would be cool to try something new, but I'm still massively leaning towards option one or two. why break up the system, you know? I know it sounds great and I love it. the only thing is repair could end up being more expensive then buying a used one, but it would give me more piece of mind.
