  1. yeah. all we're saying Eric is we are jaded and cynical and totally fucking hardcore. we are skeptical of any new product. having said that I do think the W4S stuff is really cool, and I'm glad you are enjoying yours so far. looking forward to pictures and more impressions as you find the time.
  2. yes impressions please. Sherwood is probably talking about jump the shark in terms of the FOTM effect. my CDP-2 is acting up so I'm considering whether to repair or get a new DAC.
  3. yeah ima buy em all and tell y'all how they sound good
  4. Denon 100 - The Legacy of Firsts all kinds of good looking stuff for their 100th anniversary. the CD/SACD player looks super fine. digital inputs and everything, $2500 though. and I've seen pictures of that turntable before, looks awesome. don't know how it will all sound, but it looks just great. edit: pretty much everything in the 100th anniversary series costs $2500 on crutchfield, including the TT. the cart is $500. cans $500.
  5. happy birthday!
  6. sweet news! let the flood of spritzer modded 727s commence. in fact you should call this the Level 1 mod and sell them for $1900.
  7. happy birthday!
  8. well if it's a tribute to miles davis it's safe to say it'll sound good with jazz.
  9. Is $370 a decent deal for an SRM-1/Mk2 C series? FS: STAX SRM-1 / MK-2 Amplifier - 'C' Series - Head-Fi.org Community
  10. ah school starting back up really screwed up my video game life, as it always does. i'm studying auditing now when I should be rolling with dogmeat and wrecking fools. anyway I'm kind of glad I started a new character, I got a few new followers, and just managed to do the brotherhood/glow quest without dying! so i'm currently in the brotherhood of steel. Just running quests until I get strong enough to do the waterchip quest so I can really start sandboxing.
  11. i definitely went through a headphone cable period where I tried lots of different cables on different headphones, and in the end I can say I heard differences, but shit, who knows right? Its not like the difference I hear between a Millet Minimax and Beta22, or Quad CDP-2 and Squeezebox Touch DAC, so it could all be in my head. In the end I came, I listened, I analyzed, and the difference in cables isn't enough for my ears to spend money on the boutique stuff. IMO, YMMV, etc.
  12. audiocubes is legit, as is pricejapan. I think pricejapan typically beats audio cubes in price, but its been a while since I browsed the two sites. the problem with ordering from either of these japanese web sites is warranty repair. at best you are shipping back to japan for warranty repair, at worst you won't get warranty coverage at all. which is why i'd rather just save $700 or so and buy used.
  13. the OII MK1 or MK2 is available pretty regularly on the used market, or new at elusivedisc. I think Moon Audio is a stax retailer as well. of course a meet would be the best idea.

  15. i still got love for the HD800, though my listening impressions are limited to canjam '09. same with the LCD-2, I only listened at canjam '10, but man those were great listening experiences. no need to rush the journey, but at some point consider listening to the Stax OII. if i could ever get them to fit my big head properly they would be the end all phone for me (for the record I did own these for a time). in terms of the going balanced argument, great advice from Asr regarding the source. sharing purely from my own experience, the big problem with terminating your cans and going balanced is that you limit yourself to sources with XLR outs, and then you get into the whole "well is this source TRULY balanced argument" (i.e. the Sony SCD-1, but why anyone would want that as a source now is beyond me, but it does have the most badass cd loading mechanism of all time) out of every damn source you consider. It sucks to have to eliminate a source you really want just because it doesn't have XLR outs. then of course is the added cost of have to purchase a balanced amp, but you are already there with the GS-X. Personally I have experienced benefit with a balanced HD-650, not so much with a balanced RS-1. In the end I'm not hardcore enough to go all balanced. The added cost, limitation of component options, and having to cut up all my headphone cables just don't make the benefit worth it. Having said that, that is just my experience, and I begrudge no one who chooses to go balanced and hopefully eek out some more performance from their rig.
  16. I would go for some inexpensive quality DIY cables, rather then any of the $200 and up namebrand stuff. I've been out of the cable game for a while so I don't know who to recommend you to. does Steve do HD800 cables?
  17. I have it on good authority that the dos equis guy is registered here. he doesn't usually browse hi-fi forums, but when he does, he prefers head-case.
  18. OJ Simpson - super nice guy, signed my Clive Cussler book and we talked about the books main characters for a while. this was about a year before the Bronco chase. as much as I love live music I try not to meet (famous) musicians. I like to keep that wall there.
  19. To our valued customers, * Unfortunately, we are behind on the delivery of the JH3A. *The original designer, Matt Macbeth of GR9 Tech, misled us on how far along the amp was before he eventually abandoned the project- leaving us to find a new company to finish the JH3A. The entire DSP code, as well as other components had to be reworked. * We have been working with a new company for the past 6 weeks and the latest update as of today is we will have amps to ship in 12 weeks. We have extended their estimate of 8 to 10 weeks to 12 weeks as not to mislead again. * I am personally sorry for any inconvenience this has caused. We are happy to refund anyone who is not willing to wait. * You have my personal guarantee that the JH3A will be well worth the wait and it will be perfect when shipped. * * Best Regards, Jerry Harvey
  20. yeah it's really cool so far. more then anything I love having all my music on one drive. having it spread around several drives always annoyed me. also the protection of course gives me piece of mind.
  21. ^^^that is pretty cool right there.
  22. this is great, I've been wanting to change my screen name to pussywillow. ty.
  23. I still think it's cool! Nate won't ruin my fun. of course after my 7 day post-apple event cooling off period I'll forget why I ever wanted one.
