  1. My old prototype tube amp was not very accurate sounding, but was dry as hell. I've heard a few cheap chinese amps that range from dry to lush and most are not what I would call accurate. My current amp has a very pleasing euphonic sound, but is not lacking in accuracy at all. Most singlepower amps are a little tubey (excepting the over the top balanced creations), but are not masking detail as far as I've heard. Neutrality and euphony are not mutually exclusive. I would say that my rig is pretty neutral relative to others I've heard, with a slight hump in the mids. It is also very rich sounding. Accoustic instruments and vocals sound lush... As they damn well should! They sound lush live for chrissake!
  2. Hmmm... I heard the HE90 at the first national and thought it was nice too. The Omega 2's didn't impress me. I guess I'm an idiot, no agenda though. Sov has been a douche for a long time. I try not to bother with douches. Post - Does the Ed9 isolate well? Would it block out subway noise?
  3. He is implying that since the design is old it is flawed. I'm asking him to enlighten me on the extreme advancements in driver design over the last 20 years [the K340 is not actually 50 years old]. Based on what I've heard, it is a matter of different and not exactly better. Oh, I know. Same here. The Lambdas have bloated bass? mkay...
  4. No good dynamic has one note bass. I will concede that some electrostats have very nicely detailed bass, but it doesn't sound like the real thing. That's my problem with it. I was always the impression that the only truth was in Patrick82's apartment.
  5. Maybe for you, but not for me. If by unique you mean completely unnatural, I am with you there. It doesn't, if you follow what my comment was addressing and put it into that context you will see what I was getting at.
  6. Ummm, yeah, they are crazy expensive... that was my point!
  7. Please, I'm sure you can find some more insanely expensive and excessively picky tubes to throw in there!
  8. Having two types of drivers isn't exactly new, people have been doing it with speakers for years. Just because you only have one type of driver and no bass doesn't mean you need to be all jealous.
  9. I think you guys are the ones confused.
  10. Sorry, but what is revolutionary about the design of any audio technica headphone? The cutesy styling? The wings? Gimmie a break. Spritzer - You know this isn't the Stax thread, right? What are you doing here?
  11. Can't fault the man for being honest.
  12. If I could change my vote it would be for Billy Bob. That guy's nuts!
  13. Yeah, but you've all seen that animated GIF of Ray... right?
  14. Nice impressions so far! How is the isolation? I've always thought they might be a cool portable headphone to replace my K81DJs... If I won the lottery or something.
  15. Thanks for clearing that up Jim.
  16. Bah! I prefer the Lambdas myself...
  17. Definitely Ray. He is so high energy.
  18. SWEET! You da best Reks! I'll send you a PM in a minute.
  19. You totally need 5,000,457 hours of burn in on those K701s. Or at least, that's what I hear. Nice recable job though!
  20. I wouldn't mind that.
  21. I will definitely start talking shit about that can as soon as it is available.
  22. Your amp would probably drive these better than mine. I think they like solid state.
  23. It was only single ended. Not a balanced beta22. It sounded pretty good, but we needed to max the volume out even with the zapfiltered opus. Steve's balanced beta22 was not done. I think that balanced it would have been ok. I'm pretty sure Steve's is going to be balanced with a gain of 11, so you might want to PM him and/or Fierce_Freak if you think that is a bad idea. We could only hear them balanced on my amp, and it was not a good match. The Orthodynamic drivers in those headphones have an impedance of 120ohms, but must be extremely sensitive or something. There has been some speculation as to whether or not they present a capacitive load. Anyways, they don't exactly sound right on my amp. Sorry if I wasn't clear.
  24. Yeah, but for now I win. Nah, I'm pretty sure he was joking.
  25. Exactly. I know that Kevin didn't mean it that way, but that is how it comes across. I've also noticed that this has become more common lately on here and other forums. The difference is, that here I can voice it where on other forums I would either get moderated or people wouldn't understand what I was getting at. Thanks for the PM Kevin. While it is certainly possible that there is some sort of psychological reason to Billy's persona, I don't think you really know anything about bipolar disorder.
