  1. I think that the CyBook, the Sony eBook reader and the iRex all look quite nice. This Amazon one is the only ugly one of the bunch.
  2. He gives you $60 to ship the cable? Sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me.
  3. I think it is a mistake to buy one of these things and use it for internet browsing, it is meant to read books, and that is what it does well. I also think it is a mistake to buy something that looks like a bird crapped it out.
  4. But yeah, Nate, you need to do a bit of reading on E-Ink. It only uses power to refresh the screen, so they measure battery life in terms of page turns rather than hours. And most of these devices get 8000 page turns per charge. It is also just as easy to read as a piece of paper, if not easier. You can view the screen in pretty much any lighting that you could read a book in, and it is viewable from any angle.
  5. The wireless is nice, but its FUGLY. I'm hopefully getting the Bookeen CyBook from the wifey for christmas, which should fit my needs fine. I was tempted by the iRex, but it's just too damn expensive.
  6. It might have if I hadn't laid out my response with so much tact. I'm awesome.
  7. For him, yes, it sounds like he did.
  8. I can see how it would come across that way. It is not how I meant it. Wrote the post with a smile, not a grimace. I can understand that, and actually, with Jazz and Classical is when I really liked the flats. Was too much for Rock and Electronica though, and that is mainly what I listen to.
  9. That is what I was doing in that post. Sorry if it came across as some sort of dismissal. Mainly, I just don't want to argue about why I preferred bowl pads. I'm sure that I will spend more time with all variety of Grado pads when I actually get a set... and who knows, I might agree with you. Sorry, what amp? I wasn't just talking amp btw, many of the headphones themselves sound different. I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "cannot quote my rig". It is great that you had them modded by Larry, he does the K340 mods very well. Even modded though, they don't all sound identical. "Hallucinogen's In Dub"? Cant say I've heard it. All I am 'telling you' is that I am happy with the bass in my K340 setup. Clearly you aren't. This could either be personal preference or some variation in the sound of our two systems. Not sure why you took my comment so harshly.
  10. I was not attempting to invalidate your opinion, just stating why I am backing out. So, I'm the only one around here that's not allowed to give Jacob a hard time for backing out of headphones?
  11. I hear you, and I've heard K340 rigs that sound like that. Fit is definately of huge import with the K340, and the reason meet impressions of them are usually lukewarm.
  12. Ok, I'm done here. I don't even own these headphones and you own no headphones. We may be talking about two different things here, but since I'm working off of memory and a headphone I don't own I can't really re-listen and expand on what I'm saying... so until I own a RS-1 or MS-Pro I can't say much more. Flat pad mafia - 1 Philodox - 0
  13. If changing the pads makes it not bloated, I fail to see how it is the amplifier. True enough, I guess. In this case it was both. Too much bass that lost its coherency. Did not have the issue with the Bowls or with my K340's, so I would attribute the change to the Flat pads.
  14. Happy Birthday John!!!
  15. I've been to tons of live concerts. When the bass is so bloated that it looses coherency that is what I call too much. When I listened to bass heavy music on the RS-1s using the flat pads it was too much IMO, while with the bowls [when positioned properly] it sounded fine. I can definately understand the draw to the flats though, as when I listened to music that didn't have a lot of bass they sounded lovely. I think that ultimately I would probably settle on crushed bowls so that I wouldnt have to swap them. If I get a RS-1 or MS-Pro, my K340's aren't going anywhere, so rather than switching pads for different music... I can just switch headphones.
  16. I think I know how much bass I like, thanks. I'd love to hear your speakers sometime, but I can't have a speaker rig in my current situation, so it's headphones for me. My K340's have bass, the only people I could see complaining about the quantity are PS-1 fiends or maybe DT770 dumbasses.
  17. Happy Birthday Billy!!!
  18. No way, that has got to be your amp. The rest of the comparison was spot on though for your pair of K340's. I'm so jealous of your RS-1's. I don't think that comparison is very good... but you've been a Grado fanboy longer than I have, so who knows. Well, this was on my rig and Massive Attack has good recording quality, so there wasn't anything too terrible going on. The flats just made the bass go like woah.
  19. I preferred them with bowls once I got the positioning right. Too much bass with the flats on some music, though on music without much bass it was very nice.
  20. No lead in the solder on the MKI? I fucking hate this ROHS bullshit. Lead free solder blows.
  21. Thanks for the comparison Biggie. Sounds like [other than the bass] the RS-1's are more different than the PS-1's when compared to my K340's. I'll probably still have to give the RS-1's and MS-Pro's another listen before I buy, but I'm pretty sure that is the next headphone for me. The PS-1's are out of my price range anyways, so it makes the choice easier. Nanoha - The PS-1 obliterates the RS-1? I'm going by memory here, but I just don't see it.
  22. Billy, the new avatar and quote. So funny!
  23. I think it would be pretty swank to wear them on the subway... so I really went there with my offer.
