  1. you can also just use matched k170s
  2. I think 300 dual works fine, and there is a dual 18v as well, two pieces
  3. why can't you use the antek
  4. trying out my 009 with Marc's bh and a vintage analog research segue dac. I like what I'm hearing, not perceiving as much brightness as I remember
  5. more like I need to stop looking at the self price quote so I don't end up buying it Birgir can you comment on the build issues? Are there any which may affect the longevity a la mk1 cable strain relief?
  6. My mistake, I didn't see it listed when I tried to filter all stax products
  7. do they stock the 007? I didn't see it listed
  8. Welp, boxes are out just to confirm, your black 007 isn't the same as the ones that are currently being sold? Is modding these the same process as detailed here-
  9. 70xxx usually denotes a mk1, but I've seen a few 708xx and 709xx that come with those fancy flight cases, similar to the 71xxx series. Birgir can chime in but I think the carbon fiber box is what tells you it's a mk1
  10. Thanks Craig, I provided the number for other interested parties, not to call out the price (it's actually more reasonable than I was expecting). That shipping to the states is heinous though. I brought up Par's suggestion to Paul but the price ended up being more than UPS. I'm going to go ahead and put the 25% deposit towards getting them made. I take it you didn't have any issues with fit inside Kevin's cases?
  11. Any problems with the lower voltage swing during typical use?
  12. Paul got back to me, 195 GBP for the transformers before shipping to the staes, which as some predicted is a killer.
  13. old school is pretty vague, ebay has a pretty large selection
  14. I'm tempted by those L-2 boards, can we buy the torpedo output transformers by themselves directly from Edcor?
  15. I think I have a busted 007 mk1 cable if you're interested
  16. I use Bay Area for my one offs since my edu email still works. pretty nice and they usually give extras
  17. There seem to be quite a few options available if you wanted to use an off-the-shelf solution for the KGSSHV, it might not make sense to go the custom route, SumR or otherwise. Not to derail this thread too much but you can always use Birgir's 12VA Triad part + Edcor 330Vac for 400V operation with the BHSE supply. With the fancier diff amp affair there are several options for 450V / 500V operation from those same suppliers. I think Hammond also has some offerings which fit the bill. I am pinging Paul because I did similar due diligence for the T2 transformers and just getting the appropriate voltages/currents out of commercial products would probably cost more than the custom route- not to mention second-order effects that Craig and others have touched upon.
  18. So there's a sliver of hope that we can all rock out with black 007s that actually sound good?
  19. "Yup, we can make them for you. I'll have to get a UPS quote for delivery to California. Craig mentioned that there might be other people in the states who require this set of transformers. Obviously the more orders, the cheaper I can make them, So price I quote you will be worst case, and if I get more orders soon, then it'll be cheaper !!"
  20. Thanks Craig, sent him an email. I guess I was first in line and the price may or may not come down depending on who decides to commission a set.
  21. If you commissioned the T2 tx's from Paul he should have those specifications on file too right? I have a set of SumR transformers but maybe it might make more sense to commission his work for 60Hz duty.
  22. I didn't do a a side by side comparison but KGSSHV + 009 is too bright for my tastes. I think the KGST + 009 would also fare better for longer listening sessions. The KGSiC might be an interesting alternative to a KGST if you're fiending to build something else?
  23. from the picture it looks like you are only off boarding one of the fets?
  24. if you use molex connectors is it possible to make cables without a crimper or some other specialty tool?
  25. ebay chinese enclosures do a lot of casework for you, especially with respect to the front and back panels
