  1. This idiot has been making shitty amps for years and keeps posting here. I think it might be time to ban him from the site for good. He's also been stealing from my site to advertise his shitty amps as if they are in some way comparable. Now lets start with the Megatron and only...what the actual fuck is enough for this. I mean seriously, those caps carry a lot of voltage and are just PSU bypass caps so why the fuck use vcaps? Only explanation is "i don't have a single clue as to what I'm doing". All the terminal blocks are the shitty Chinese ones which are not safe, the board is covered in flux and those 2SA1968's look mighty suspect to me. Also, hot glue and electrical tape scream high quality!! As for the KGST...holy fuck this is bad. The CCS heatsinks are wrong so you will cook the fets in no time, all the wires are the same color (very SinglePower) which is all kinds of stupid and placing the volume control there has to be some of the dumbest shit I've ever seen. The sheer lack of know how needed to think that this is a good idea... wow...
  2. I bought a set so expect Kevin commenting on them soon...
  3. I didn't look up the datasheet but if the max voltage is within spec and the pinout is the same then I don't see why not. Might not be as good though.
  4. This is where religion comes into play. There is no logic here, simply the belief in this deity and how much better everybody's life will be with Black Gates.
  5. Never had one of those so I'm not sure.
  6. Yup, we expect it by the end of the day. K'thx'by!!!
  7. I was pulling the MSB out of my system and here is inside one of the dac modules. The cover was simply soldered in place which the Metcal simply laughed at...
  8. The Marantz is one of the worst OEM Stax sets. The Magnavox was much better and naturally, they aren't Stax compatible. Both the pinout and the diaphragm specs are incompatible...
  9. Yeah the SE-1000 would be awesome!!
  10. That thing is all class. I wonder what something like this would cost today with the crazy gold prices.
  11. Now where is the picture of that gold plated Single Power amp....
  12. The arc's are slightly different between different versions. So 1977 vs. 1982 etc. The Gamma arc's are also slightly different but will work for the Lambdas.
  13. Liquid Shit if you will...
  14. Ok.... I'll admit that was funny.
  15. Bob does love his LCD-4's so I'm not surprised by the findings but as for the amps, what AMB unit is that? M3? Could be very close to the Deckard in terms of performance.
  16. Let's not talk about the 60's PCB's...
  17. Hehe good point...
  18. I have a few old arc's that have been salvaged from headphones which were too far gone but that's the only ones I know about. The cable issue is far worse though as they often see so much abuse.
  19. I don't think many would agree on that...
  20. Smash with a hammer and hand him some 007's...
  21. We are shit out of luck on the old parts though I believe Stax has a lot of that stuff still in stock or it could be made in small quantities easily. I mean how hard would it be to make 300 normal bias Lambda cables which are 95% the same as the 207 cable? The problem with something like this is knowing the older models well enough to supply people with the stuff they need. The distributors fuck up the current lineup when it comes to parts so I have little hope for them knowing a Gamma cable from a SR-5N cable. I've toyed with the idea for so long to import Stax into Iceland but I doubt they would want their biggest critic anywhere near this. Still they could make a nice amount of money servicing the old units with minimal outlay... Ohh and thanks for that Justin. Did you ever get those 009's fixed after the NYC meet? I could take a look at them when I'm in the US next month...
  22. I'm certain they can do a good amp but they are severely limited in terms of parts they can use, weight, power consumption and just how complex it can be. Well that and they are way too obsessed with using something "cool" and not ultimate performance. I doubt anybody thinks the 727 NO-NFB is a brilliant plan...
  23. It's not that bad but they have probably replaced a lot of drivers over the years. Well that and headbands...that thing is just a pile of fail.
  24. I'm pretty sure that the loose bias contact is the reason for some of the imbalance issues. Not sure why they would use such a weak mechanical contact there..
  25. I agree, the wool is necessary to keep those drivers in check. I have a spare SR-3 somewhere so I might try something with it.
