  4. I'm doomed, then. I've been sensitive to lighting for as long as I can remember. Today I returned not one but two different bulbs for my freezer because they were the wrong color temperature.
  5. Paid my property tax, only a week late. Continued the saga of trying to get glasses. The frames I ordered that were supposed to arrive Friday of last week were delivered to the wrong office branch. They arrived yesterday at the right office, mixed in with other frames and not labeled in any fashion. They also had the wrong size temples on them. 140mm when I need 145mm. At least they got the finish right. I have another appointment tomorrow at 3PM where I hope to get this resolved. As it stands now, it's looking like I won't have the glasses in time for my trip to the Vineyard next week, which is going to suck.
  6. The billing issue with those Harbeths might be a simple mistake, or it could be the sign of something much worse. It does raise some uncomfortable questions. Dishonesty is never a good sign. In the wake of the Hindenberg Rotenberg disaster, headphone cognoscenti are especially wary of lies about billing and shipping. HeadRoom under Herstens direction had the best customer service in the industry, period. There is an entire spectrum between the HR of yore and SinglePointOfFailure but I would hate to see the former end up like the latter. I wonder about repairs and upgrades to HeadRoom equipment. In my early days over at That Other Place, I used to regularly read about HR owners sending in their gear and almost invariably reporting back with happy results. The Sloth had his own division of HeadRoom for a while. Equipment servicing is a more delicate matter than sales. In my jaded opinion, it is even more important for maintaining customer loytalty. If HeadRoom's reputation sinks too much (and I don't think it has thus far) it will impact the resale value of HR products. No matter how far the company falls, Headroom will never be the giant steaming clusterfuck that was Mikhail's creation. HeadRoom products are unlikely to catch on fire or shock the shit out of someone. Still, it is sad to see how the company has changed for the worse. I have an HRBD and DPS, and I've entertained the idea of getting an HRMH for a long while now. I have unrealistic fantasies of upgrading to a HR-BUD and HR-UDAC (or finding a HR Balanced Max for "cheap.") All of the above shows up on the used market with some frequency, but it's a lot less fun to buy used equipment when one is unsure about the possibility of getting it serviced.

  11. The NOTAM irregularity was pointed out repeatedly on this massive Reddit thread. I wasn't trying to reach any tinfoil hat conclusion, I just liked the MILSPEC ALLCAPS speech of the NOTAM. Ray should write his manuals like that.

  14. I haven't posted any pictures I've taken in bloody ages. Late last month I was the opening DJ for Beats Antique and Lynx. The same weekend was 6th anniversary of the drum n bass night I helped found. 50mm F/1.6, 1/80th, ISO640. 50mm F/1.6, 1/100th, ISO800 50mm, F/1.6, 1/80th, ISO800. The front of house engineer, in silhouette. The shapes in the bokeh are her worklight and the cables coming out the back of the mixer. No edits other than a 4:5 cop. 50mm, F/1.4, 1/50th, ISO640. The DJ almost lost in the lights. 17mm, F/4, 1/8th, ISO640, handheld. Russian DNB triptch. 50mm, F/1.4, 1/40th, ISO1600. I've got a few more to post, but that will have to happen later.
