Now I understand why my hearing is not as good as his - my QI must me too low.

First good snow of the winter, back to the joys of shoveling.

Not exactly Krautrock because it doesn't come from Germany, but you might like Henry Cow. British avant-garde rock band from the 70s with Canterbury influences a la Soft Machine, but much weirder. I appreciate it in small doses, a little bit like Can.

Hehehe, we Quebecers will never quite "fit" in North America unless everybody starts talking French. One of the reasons why we'll need to have a country someday, but that's another (endless) debate.

That and the original soundtrack from Slap Shot. How come you know about "Les Boys" ?

Righty.

While we're talking about ergonomy, anybody have a suggestion for a good comfortable mouse? My very basic Logitech 2-buttons + scrollwheel is dying on me and I'd like to buy a new mouse with at least two more buttons for back/forward while browsing. I don't care about the size or if it's wired or wireless.

Opinion about a certain pair of headphones =/= integrity. You need to stop taking things on a personal level, nobody here attacked your integrity. I've only questioned some of your arguments and it looks like you don't like when debates get too heated, you prefer to go crying to your friends at the other place. OK, that was a personal attack, but you were looking for it.
-
Wow, I think you need to chill a little HeadphoneAddict. I don't understand why you read my post as a personal attack, but here's a recap just to make things clear. You said this: It implies that if other people don't think the same as you, they either have "lesser" hearing or broken phones. That's quite a fallacious argument if you ask me. And to back this argument, you imply that the "many others" in question are more right than the people disagreeing with you. I never said that your review was wrong or anything and the "Pick your team" line was said in jest. You can notice a little smiley next to it. If you want to use swear words, let yourself loose if you have that much agressivity in you, but I never intended this thread to be a flame war. You created it by not admitting opinions other than yours.
-
Most of the "many others" you are talking about are either excited noobs or people who only have experience with IEMs. On the other hand, catscratch and Malos are two guys with good experience with all types of headphones and that usually write rational and thoughtful reviews. Pick your team.

Is there anything that competes with the HeadAmp GS-1?
GPH replied to Knuckledragger's topic in Headphone Amplification
I think there's a transparent plastic cover over the amp, that might be it. -

Sounds interesting. Unfortunately, I've got no money, nor dynamic cans to try with it, but I agree with the suggestion that someone should take a hit for the team. Seriously though, TTVJ should build better looking enclosures for its amps. No matter how good they sound, I'm sure they'd sell many more amps than they do now if their amps had better looks. Not necessarily mil-spec bling bling like Ray Samuels, but something simple and slick like HeadAmp or Woo Audio. -
Yeah, I think remapping works because I know of Mac users who Windows keyboards at home. Remapping is a must because I don't want to relearn finger muscles memory.

I've been thinking about buying an external keyboard to use with my MacBook because I hate the flat keys and I've been considering those Unicomp keyboards. Got any experience with them?
-
If catscratch's pair is broken, mine is too, because I hear pretty much the same things than he does. And I really doubt they are broken, because it would sound much more bad than this. As I said and from what I understand catscratch thinks the same thing, the overall sound is pleasant and enjoyable, but the midrange is just not on the same level as the best headphones, let alone speakers. Maybe his source is messed up, I don't know about that, but personally I've tried the W3 straight from the iPod Touch and out of the Cambridge 840A headphone out and the recessed midrange was apparent on both.

They're on my short list of universal IEMs I want to try, but I'm worried about the comfort. I owned the Super.fi 5 Pro a while ago and I had a hard time getting a good fit, but I've read that the Shure olives can help with that on the Triple.fi. If I see a good deal on a used pair, I might buy them to find out by myself.
-
Warm and musical, but lacking details in the mids and seriously rolled off highs. The bass is good and tight for an IEM, but a little bit over-the-top in quantity for my tastes. What really killed it for me is the presentation of the vocals which I find weird and unnatural, but I don't see many people other stating that so take it with a grain of salt. I'll continue to use my ER4S (which are painfully bright when coming from the Westone 3, but very good in their own right) until I find something that satisfy me.

In: Stax SR-001Mk2 and Pico w/ DAC Out: Westone 3

Description: headphones Cost: actual cost of headphones I don't see why he'd put anything else...

No offense taken, sometimes I think about things that make sense in French, but the meaning is lost when I type it in English. Also, I realize my opinion may come as overly negative in this whole Westone 3 debate, but I'm not trying to go against the grain, I'm just stating what I hear. For example, I think that the percussions, particularly snare drum and cymbals sound very muted on the W3 compared to most of the headphones I've heard and owned. What do you guys who own the Westone 3 think about that?
-
Tell me where I said that. What I said was that different headphones have different particularities and most of the time people come to agreements about how certain headphones sound. Someone who loves Grado SR-225 wouldn't argue that the sound is more laid back than a pair of Sennheiser HD650. It's not a question of preferences and I wouldn't dare say that my opinion is universal, I just usually hear the same characteristics that other people do about particular models.

Larry - that's a fair reply, thanks for taking the time. It's possible that it might be due to the fit or ear physiology, but I highly doubt it. I'd say 95% of the time, when I audition new headphones, I hear similar things than most experienced reviewers do. And that's exactly my problem with the hype surrounding the W3 right now on Head-fi; there are very few reviewers who have decent experience with high-end cans that can serve as a point of reference to properly review the Westone. For some reason, you have a lot of experience, but my perspective on the Westone 3 is very different from yours. We all hear differently, that's true, but I believe there's a good part of objectivity in sound reviewing, otherwize Head-fi would be a total chaos and no one would agree on anything. In my experience, the small complaints that are made when a new headphone is released usually take more importance with time, so we'll see how it goes when more people will have reviewed them. For now, my thoughts concur with what catscratch and ZephyrSapphire are hearing. What I like about this place is that people try to be more objective. I'm happy for you if you are very enthusiatstic about a new pair of headphones, but there's a thin line between enthusiasm and fanboyism/FOTM. What I see on Head-fi is that you are very active in 2-3 different threads and it seems to me that you are almost trying to "push" the product. Naming a thread "Westone 3 vs the losers" speaks for itself.
-
On another subject, I'm trying to sell my Westone 3 and I just remembered how much I hate selling IEMs on Head-fi. People make offers, seem very serious, and then just disappear and stop replying to PMs. It's a very different attitude than people buying high-end cans and speakers who are usually more serious and professional in their behaviour. I've had 3 guys tonight who were very interested in appearance, one of them even asked for my PP address, and then, total silence.
