How has your rig changed in 2007? And do you have any future plans?

I've basically stopped browsing Audiogon, as I always seem to buy stuff. At this point, I really really don't need to be doing this (for lots of serious reasons)... I do have money set aside for a new transport. Well, it showed up on the 'gon, didn't sell and then showed up again and I randomly looked at it had just sold. This is all so frustrating, as I don't want to start lurking around there again (obsessively). So, I'm probably going to write a script to poll the site or find someone who with be an intermediary for me (volunteers?) That being said </rant> and all that stuff, I'm planning on actually getting two pairs of speakers finished this year. I've been working on these forever and really really want to get them finished. One is a Morel compact 3-way using first-order slopes, the other is a Scan-Speak + Audiotechnology + Scan-Speak using mixed-order slopes, ala Thiel. I even have a builder that will finish the cabinets, but the plans are lacking. Yup, that's the crazy part. I've gone through 3? cabinet designs and am still not happy with the result. Other than that, I have a DIY TT motor pod w/ controller I'm working on and a pair of souped-up Pass / First Watt F4 monoblocks that need to be cased up. The rest of this year will be devoted to music! -
I haven't smoked for the past 11 months, due to my efforts to lower my term life insurance policy I'm about to take out. I'm not sure if this will work, but the online form that I fuzzed resulted in cheaper numbers if the minimum time since last smoke was 12 months. Obviously when I take it up again, I'll have my Dunhills, Petersons, Ser Jacopo, etc. lined up ready to go I'd really like to find a super nice Churchwarden, as it's a fun shape. I have a Savanelli ... it's alright, not much to look at. Have you ever used honey to break in your pipes? Someone mentioned that when I was over in Norway, and I think he was trying to take me for a ride ... maybe people do that ... who knows? Perhaps you can help me with this ... do you know where to get Castello pipe tobacco?

I have a lot of endearing terms for my Zyx cart as well :)

well, I think Alex got to the bottom of a few of the problems. Thing is, finding those MACE and FURORE chips is near impossibile for the DIY-er, or even people like Alex. I've almost bought the Philips transport 10 times now, but I just get guy shy as a lot of the problems are slow degradation not a quick break. This is hard when your rig is so unstable to deal with a source that exhibits some sort of quantum-uncertainty. -
does that mean you like the same type of sources* she does?... *witty remark here

luvdunhill - Singlepower fan-boy I cannot really compete with the real Stax fan-boy ...

this is something I've always wanted to have... now, it's so obvious that maybe a thread isn't needed..... but .... wait for it: The Official Fan-Boy Roster I'll add the first: slwiser - ULTRASONE Edition 9 geez... anyways, mods feel free to asshat this thread, or move it somewhere more prominent

yuujin: after choosing the housing profile, you have to create the top, bottom, front and rear panels. If you're doing one of the larger profiles, you'll have to create 2 sides as well. If needed, you'll need to add holes for the L brackets. Once you get all this ready, you add the 4 panels, the side extrusion (you specify the length), the brackets, and screw kits to your FPE order using the order program.

I think I misinterpreted your original comment

same can be said about designing an opamp, labor isn't free. I guarantee more $$ goes into designing and fabing an opamp than designing + implementing a JISBOS.

I'm looking more and more into DVD transports, specifically the one that Muse audio uses. I think there are some definite benefits to be had with them. Problem with the VRDS is that you have to mess with EIAJ format if you're going to try a i2s direct type connection, which isn't impossible but just different. -
ok, use a decade box, does bench equipment count? anyways, I agree it took me a bit to come up with a counter-example, but I think it's a decent one.
-
I think I got the JISBOS curcuit to around $6 per channel for parts (granted, this means putting pots in and then taking them out and replacing them with resistors). That's getting close to the price of some of the buffers out there, and less than the good chips that are unity gain stable.

I have a M-Audio Audiophile Firewire that I've used a few times to transfer stuff ... Sounds decent -
I'd owned all three (up from the bottom) of the woodied Grado cartridges. There is a definitely break-in point, but to my ears there is a point when you really want them to stop breaking in... alas, it doesn't stop and they take a turn for the worse (slight, but it's notacable and kinda annoying). Regardless of my experience, I hope you enjoy them!!

well, it's very important that the sleeves keep the entire contents of a jewel case including the booklet and tray cards. This is a requirement for me. As for the jewel cases, well, I have a garage that they just might be able to fit in (somewhere)...
-
well, I'm on the look out for something a bit more high density for my CD collection, and I'm considering something like this: Has anyone gone to something of this nature, and did you regret it? I'm looking at the Viewpak XG sleeves and then a nice box or case to put them all in: I'm not sure I'd go this route for everything, but it would definitely be nice to have all those Daniel Barenboim CDs that I never listen to handy for coaster use mod edit: rehosted the cdbinder.com image. Their certificate expired and I was getting a warning every time I clicked this thread

well, I had such luck with the KGSS by mounting the PCB to the top and bottom of the case, I am going to try this again. It's okay if things don't quite line up left to right, like with your BH. I plan on using chassis mount tube sockets, probably the bakelite ones I have on hand. I think I'm going to keep the bias pots inside the case, as I would like to keep the leads very short at these points in the circuit. I'll probably add a tip jack location for ground and then use that in conjunction with the front mount jacks for biasing. My cheaper meter has probes that fit just right in the molex-based Stax jack. great idea! I really like the DI DAC concept (www.ecdesigns.nl), and the USB input is the best I've ever heard... something to think about at least! Take care!
