  1. I've contacted him a number of times. Our conversations go something like this: Me: "can I buy some of those Stax jacks from you?" Him: "Nope, do you want an amp?" Me: "no, what about 25 jacks?" Him: "No, they're custom made for us. If you buy an amp." Me: "huh? that didn't make any sense. You mean I can get some jacks if I buy an amp?" Him: <no reply> Him: "Are you still interested in the amp?"
  2. net $250?
  3. well, there's the Koss ESP-950 that you can get under $300 and then I'd guess you could build a decent solid state amp for $400. time? well, that's the hard part.
  4. nate: If you're looking for some more affordable projects, just let me know There are a number out there. I won't post them to tempt you. Fing: I'd consider the Illusion ESC-1001:
  5. then I should add that I heard that *exact* combination
  6. enjoy the KGSS and SR-007! I listened to this combination at length and it sounds pretty good. My biggest complaint is I wished things were more forward. The combination is very good at intimate musical settings without a lot of dynamic contrast, as then you can crank the volume a bit more and even this out.
  7. can you give an example?
  8. speaking of bumping, YGPM for the love!
  9. I don't really get your argument Dusty. Say that DC offset is zeroed between the + output and - output and then zeroed to ground. This is what I'm referring to as a floating ground. There isn't a "ground" connected to the the load per say, but this is definitely balanced drive, or "true" balanced as you say. Also, most balanced cables do not connect the "ground" on each end, as this can create a ground loop. This happened to swt61 at our DFW meet, as someone didn't know how this should worked and just connected all three wires straight through the cable. The ground on the input side is usually connected to the shield.
  10. What would I need to do to rig up a mock SR-007 electrostatic dummy load, a capacitor? edit: preemptively, no Sprizer I don't have a spare HE-90 around
  11. no problem! it's a really great little toy... my dealer has a Winds gauge and I "calibrated" mine against that... they differed by like +0.06g I believe. I also have a few weights around that I use as sanity checks, but the scale has been rock solid.
  12. I bought mine from Mehran of SORAsound: http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?anlgcart&1205150157 paid a bit less than the asking price. Works great. I've also used setups similar to the jigs that are from Wally of WallyTractor fame using "hydroponic" scales off Ebay: jig concept: http://www.simplyblack.net/WVC/tools/scale.htm and "hydroponic" scale on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/600-0-1-GRAM-HYDROPONICS-SEEDS-DIGITAL-JEWELRY-SCALE_W0QQitemZ130193203932QQihZ003QQcategoryZ43555QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem edit: mine is like that one, except 0.01g. Just search for 0.01g scale.
  13. he'll need an un-adaptor + an adaptor
  14. cool! I just bought two Bendix 2c51 as well to play with.
  15. Kevin: Are there any decent subs for the 2sj79 and 2sk216 parts? I'm assuming the benefit of these parts are the low capacitances? Are the lower voltage versions possible substitutes? Any subs that use the higher rated case like the 2sa1968 to avoid heat sinking these parts, perhaps 2SJ313 and 2SK2013? I guess I don't really have a good reason for asking these questions, just curious...
  16. I've always wondered why these people can "sell" amb's stuff personally, as he has a very similar disclaimer on his website about for personal use only, no commercial-use, etc..
  17. Dusty Chalk: I consider a truly balanced output to be a floating output without a common ground. I'm not sure what others think, but this is my definition at least
  18. just got back with the Muse player guy showed up and everything. Definitely the heaviest digital source I've owned...
  19. Tyrion: what he said
  20. I don't get it, I recommended the Sorny and Panaphonics in the other thread (oblique Simpson's reference)
  21. Spritzer have you seen the "Staks" stands? Similar to the Sorny and Panaphonics products
  22. It's a Schroder Reference tonearm
  23. I've heard the Stelvio and it sounds impressive. I would have chosen the Teres as well, due to their DIY roots
