  1. The valve no longer seals on the removable water tank. There isn’t an obvious way to replace it or the o-rings, so I bought a new complete tank from Breville. Machine doesn’t brew (or steam) and the tank valve is faulty; surely these are related things.
  2. The dual boiler has failed, so I guess I’ll be testing out Breville repair. I think they will just give me a factory refurb for $400, but packing this thing up is certainly a pain in the ass.
  3. Well, the Slim D’Hermes will survive a shower. Forgot I was wearing it (very easy to do with this watch). No harm seems to have come to the strap, though the booklet is emphatic that it not get wet. The watch itself is fine; 3 ATM can handle a shower. Would it be sacrilege to find a really nice Milanese for this? I might even go swimming with it, then. I haven’t worn the Santos Dumont much. Not from a lack of desire to (I love it, and I’m reasonably certain I didn’t make a mistake by not getting a Bulgari octofinissimo in steel instead; I’ll maybe just get one of those in 2024: anyway, it wears like a dream), I just still haven’t put the first scratch on it yet, and I’m scared. What that tells me is I need more gold watches so that I can get used to scratching gold watches.
  4. Just to be a bit more specific, the Opus seems to be out performed by the Encore ESP (not even including the weird workflow for dialing in); I have an Encore with M2 set fine, right here at Heather’s, which will grind espresso, and it’s not even close to the same performance as the Niche. I used it with the Flair Pro 2 this morning, as the Niche is now packed up for me to go home. It’s fine. It works. Niche shots are different. Niche build and workflow are much better, and grind quality isn’t comparable. Obviously I don’t have an Opus, but I’m surprised at the idea of replacing one with the other in that direction.
  5. From the reviews of the Opus I’ve seen I wouldn’t count on it.
  6. The pump on the little Breville just died. I guess I’m nor buying H an espresso grinder.
  7. I let beans rest for two weeks for espresso, but I use immediately for filter.
  8. Neither does the bourbon.
  9. It doesn’t care about a tight cuff.
  10. I’m at my partner’s for a couple weeks, so I travelled with the Niche and my little machine. Makes delicious espresso. I’m leaving the machine; Heather is interested in making espresso at home, in which case I should probably leave the Niche here and buy a Lagom P64, since I already have SSP multis in my Ode, which I could stick in the Option-O. The Niche and the little Breville fit in just fine in a busy kitchen.
  11. I’ve never cleaned my niche. There aren’t a lot of places for crap to settle in it. That’s awesome, Bryan! I can’t wait to get impressions on both the P100 and the Argos.
  12. Finally have it on wrist. It’s a stunner. I’m not looking forward to my first scratch. It’s even thinner than the Drive extra flat, but you can definitely feel it on the wrist more.
  13. Well, I wasn’t really expecting to be the only bidder on an Hermes Arceau 28mm (for Heather; I already had her birthday gift, this was just a whim). Now no more watches! At least this one isn’t for me.
  14. I think I have the Speedy on a likely strap; a suede green/grey Rally from worn and wound.
  15. I don’t quite have it (should be Monday: shipped to my best friend, in another state, to avoid tax), but I think I’ll be done with watches for a while. I can’t wait (well, I can and will) to have it on my wrist.
  16. I’ll probably end up buying one, but I’m pretty happy with the setup right now. It’s just FOMO and GAS.
  17. I’m glad that worked out so well, Mikey! It’s a solid upgrade for cheap, right? I’m still thinking about the Weber Unibasket, though…
  18. I think you’ll like it. You should get a bit more extraction.
  19. Here’s to hoping; I won’t have it for a few days.
  20. I traded my 116170LN for a Santos Dumont in rose gold plus a good bit of cash. Rolex prices high/precious metal watches low. It’s not the fanciest watch in the world, but the gold Santos Dumont has been a grail for me. It just took two years of never wearing the GMT Master 2 to get me to do something about it, I guess.
  21. It’s not filtering, particularly, it’s simply spreading the water the way a shower screen does, but more evenly. Keep in mind that the Flair 58 doesn’t have a shower screen/ I wouldn’t put a filter on top on a regular machine probably.
  22. Yep: in place of the puck screen, on top of the coffee. Works great. You can get 58mm filters on Amazon for about a penny each. Like AeroPress filters they can be rinsed and reused a couple times.
